you get an A In technical ability and an F in Color . You had to use these extreme unfaltering background colors in order to cover the disastrous sprinkles you made earlier.. You never recovered from that mistake and that is apparent. Mostly the primary color scheme is a failure when you consider the multiple chances you'd have had to bring an array of colors that would bring a compliment to colors used. Your comment that value supersedes color might be true but when one looks at the magnetic beauty of Sargents colors one would further criticize your primary palette as cheating yourself. Again your technical ability is unquestionable and I compliment you for the proficiency and wonderful handling of values. Had you used opera for the hat and dress you'd have given yourself a path towards making your painting much more successful by again using colors that just look better with other colors for reasons that are often inexplicable . Not everything can be calculated by a color wheel, as the forced colors I the background simply do not help your beautiful painting as would those may choices of color that are there for the taking. If color can make a great painting then so can they ruin it.
