For anyone looking through the comments wondering about the cotton content in the Arteza watercolor sketchbooks: I emailed Arteza in the US to ask if there was any cotton in the paper of the "Watercolor Book - Premium, Gray Hardcover, 8.25" x 8.25", 68 Pages 110lbs/230gsm - Pack of 2" (SKU ARTZ-8983) and Arteza confirmed that there wasn't. They seem to use the same paper in a few of their other watercolor sketchbooks too. I bought these and they just arrived. They seem really nice; I'm looking forward to trying them out. Thank you for the review, Becky! :)
I struggled quite a lot with the arteza watercolour sketchbook at the beginning, but we get along now much better now. Well, I still have 1 3/4 books to fill. Let’s see if we become best friend in the end. 😉 Keep cool, put your feet in cool water and eat cool watermelons… at least that’s what I did two summers ago when we had about 40° C for some weeks. But in my opinion the worst thing is when night-temperatures won’t get under 25°C - then the body has no chance to cool down and sleep isn’t good … Take care and get good through this heat wave!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Clao! The temperature has dropped to 25 now, and much more comfortable. It is possible that each sketchbook is from a different production line, and having different qualities. It may also be that every artist has a different painting style and preferences, so the same paper may not work well for everyone.
Thank you Becky for making the video in that heat! It's 17° here in the UK, so I can't imagine those temperatures! Good to have your recommendation for a sketchbook.
I love this video, thank you so much. 💐🌸💖 I just ordered these sketchbooks from Arteza, $26.97 or something like that, 2pk. USD. Can’t wait to try them out. I also love clouds but too timid to paint them. Oh so sorry about your heat. May you be comfortable by now. 🙏🏽
Another great video Becky! I really enjoy looking at your artwork and look forward to your new videos. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the paper in the Arteza watercolor book. It really does seem to be capable of holding a lot of water when needed. Thank you and please try to stay cool up there :)
Becky, love your sketchbook entries, sketching and watercolor videos. I know it is unbearably hot there, I have used my mister to spray my face (maybe keeping it in the fridge and using cold or ice water in mister would be even better). Thinking of you and all your neighbors.
This was really helpful, thank you! I wound up ordering both the Moleskine and Arteza watercolor sketchbooks so I'm curious to see if my opinion differs (since I am very much a beginner and my water control isn't the best so far).
Bonjour de France Becky, we think of people of canada and animals that unfortunatly are on the heat. for us it is the contrairy we never had such rainy and cold spring and summer, in fact we never left the winter;;; 12 degrees instead of 29 or 34 as usual . I think anyway it s better to put a pullover that living in the deepfreeze !!! so I ve just discoved your channel, I love it. I m gonna spend my holliday time watching your video and lurn from you ! take care , you and everyone under the heat .
Thank you very much for your appreciation, Bea! 😊 Enjoy your holidays. I hope the climate will get better, it's been too much nature disasters recently.
In one of your videos you talked about the Stillman and Birn, blue cover sketchbook. Do you like the Arteza better than that one? (Thx for the video. Beautiful journal!)
You're welcome! I prefer the Arteza better. The Stillman and birn was a bit pricy and the paper is not 100% suitable for watercolors in my opinion, more for mix media. The Arteza is more affordable, has more pages, and very good quality paper for watercolors.
Thanks for this! I’m surprised Arteza is this good. Looking on Amazon now, the 100% cotton is only available as an Arteza watercolor paper pad. The sketchbooks are described as mixed media with no mention of cotton content.
Do you have a link to the Arteza watercolor album on Amazon? I have one of their watercolor albums in smaller landscape size and I find it difficult to use. I'm a very much of a beginner in urban sketching and watercolor sketching. I was wondering if the Arteza book I have is from another product line...
I just put the link in the description. It is possible that each sketchbook is from a different production line, and having different qualities. It may also be that every artist has a different painting style and preferences, so the same paper may not work well for everyone.
@@BeckyCao Thank you! I will take a look. The watercolor album that I have can't handle some inks. It easily produces very fuzzy lines for example if I use Sailor Fude de Mannen with Sailor ink. Same happens also with some fineliners if I draw slowly. So, I think my album has different kind of paper from yours.
Hi Lynn, the Moleskine brand has a variety of notebooks. The 110lb one you mentioned is called the Art Book, for dry media. The one I mentioned in this video is called Watercolor Album, and the paper weight is 135lb, very much the same as 140lb. You can do more research online and in your local art supply store. :)
Hi, any university or college offering a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree works. Your daughters don't need to go to art school to be good at art. Most modern university art programs don't really teach technical skills such as drawing and painting. Every university is different, so you need to do some research. If your children want to learn how to draw and paint, then finding a good teacher is important than going to art university/college.
