Much better sense of space and depth. I discovered that is part of the journey and your then and now shows amazing growth. Absolutely love your lessons.
I just found you recently. I have always done oils, acrylic and enamels- always afraid to attempt watercolor. But you gave me the courage to try watercolor and I immediately found my work loosened up with even less work!! Everyone I show my new work to is amazed at how it looks already. I can't thank you enough for your patient teaching and your clear instruction!! This video you asked if we saw any difference. What I saw was more detail in your work. I'm smitten for sure!!! Thank you!!
Those fresias!! To create white flowers on a white page, using a grey wash ...and they're still clearly white fresias!!! 😮 Brilliant and beautiful, as are the other flowers. 👍👏😀😘
Well I see more attention to detail and as you said perhaps using colors that are more true to nature. I too see that my style is changing as I gain more confidence with repetition and experience with color and using the brushes. You make painting with watercolor seem effortless and it encourages me to be brave and try something new. You have a gift to teach as well. Thank you!
There is definitely more vibrancy and detail in your work now and just more accuracy overall, such as color and shape. I'd say you are indeed improving as you go, hence leading us on. Thanks pal.😁❤✌
Definitely improvement but it's funny to hear you roll your eyes at your previous work. That peony is still super pretty but you're right, entirely different styles. What really stood out to me was the freesia... Just stunning transformation. Love your videos. How lucky we are to have you!
Wow. Your flowers are gorgeous. I especially love the white freesias. They really are beautiful. I also couldn’t figure out why you didn’t like your peony from last year - I thought it was gorgeous, but when you explained about how your greens have evolved, I understood what you meant. The flower itself is gorgeous, and I absolutely love peonies. They are my favorite flower in my garden. Thank you for all of your wonderful videos. I am new to watercolor, and I find these very helpful.
Emma, I love your videos, you have such a clear, patient teaching style. You are not afraid to point out your mistakes, so we can see how you work around them when they occur. Your colors now are much more realistic - the tulips and peonies in particular. I really appreciate how you demonstrate tapping in a bit more color as you go along. it's so hard to get the right balance of water and pigment, so this is a good teaching moment. Thanks!
You are amazing Emma. I have recently started watercolors and have sort of binge watched all your videos. The way you explain is so easy and simple. And great progress 👍 it gives hope to my sad looking flowers ;)
I recently started watching you during the pandemic and I love your work. This video is amazing and shows how your work has evolved. I love your patient way of instructing through your videos.
The extra layer really makes a difference. Enjoyed it and learned a lot. I am going to give it a try. I am still new and have only done the tulips. Your tips and watching how you do it is really helpful.
This was a fun idea... I think I’ll pull out some of my paintings from a year ago and do them over! It’s a great gauge of improvement. Your tulips are so realistic now , honestly I love both the paintings from a year ago and now, but I definitely see more realism in them!
I too have just begun my watercolor experience. I love your style! I love the “noises in the background “! They add to your down to earth style. I have been practicing my strokes, washes and bleeds, etc. It has been so much fun, and I can see my progress. As I have watched, I have wondered about more shading (probably from my painting acrylics days) so you’re new more developed style is interesting to me. I’m not quite ready for it, but soon! Thanks!
Bravo!!! I love how your painting style has evolved! Very confident with your technique and the vibrancy of the professional watercolor paints enhances your technique. 👍🏽💕
not only the mixing but ur leaves r much better and the peddles also..would love to c u do a land scape..im also getting better thanx to u.keep it up.this keeps me layn down n inspiring me.ty so much n ur time.
I'm posting this to my art group! All I can say is what a difference a year makes! Everything has changed, from your petals, to leaves, paint ratios etc! Seriously Emma - you could so paint your dog! I honestly do not believe that you couldn't give curly pet hair a crack! This video, it's a lesson for all of us! Thanks for posting this, it takes a lot of guts!
Wow! Your progress gives me hope, that my painting will also be much better in a year) Your tutorials inspired me to begin watercolor practicing and keep inspiring me to continue! Thank you so much!
I have only been watching you for a few months and think you are soooooo gooood! I am trying to be a little looser in my work. I can absolutely see your growth! I can only hope....
I found you because of the original watercolor florals video and you've only gotten better! Thank you for wonderful teaching and art. Whenever I'm watching these videos, I'm always unsure about the flowers initially and I feel I blink and BAM it's absolutely amazing lol I aspire to be as great as you one day :)
I’m new on my watercolor journey and hope to see this sort of improvement in my own art! It looks to me like you’ve become more comfortable putting colors closer together and aren’t afraid of them blending into one another as much.
I love the way the details make the flowers look more 3D, especially in the white flower. You are such an inspiration. Thank you so much- we love you in Australia!
I had been watching the old video to learn about flowers...your loose style appeals to me. Now, this video really brings it all home and lets me progress from too loose to more realistic. Thank you so very much Yes, you have improved!!!
I think both sets are beautiful. The wonderful thing about art is that you get to create on your own terms. It's all "impressionistic" that's what art is. You're take on what the world looks like through your eyes. Keep going!
Really love your work and your tutorials are always helpful. I see that your layering of color (both wet in wet and wet in dry details later) has brought more contrast in your values making your paintings more vibrant and interesting.
Love your videos. I started watching your videos about 3 months ago and was so inspired that I started watercoloring along with you. I can’t comment on your paintings from last year - but I can say you are really quite talented and I love all your floral paintings and love your tutorials as well. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! You have improved significantly! I’ve not been watching or painting much for about a year. It does my heart good to see your beautiful face. You inspire me to get back in the grove and I am painting again! Thanks for all your hard work!
You are more confident to add more detail.....Myself I go so far and know I could go further but stop in case I ruin it. Love your tutorials! Appreciated
I love the way you simplify the loose effect I will try and do some loose watercolour I am more in to landscapes in my watercolour paintings but loved the flowers and the robins you did just using the loose style getting the shape of the bird in I v tried robins before without success look forward to seeing more of you r videos in the future
I thought the extra detail was very good and made the newer flowers really pop. Actually, I liked last year's flowers too. Unfortunately, the gray did not show up enough under the lights to really see your work, so I would recommend avoiding washes that are so light! Thanks so much for the nice video and all of your hard work!
I'm so new at this myself, it's difficult to put into words. It's like just more professional, more finished. You give me courage to keep trying, and you inspire me. Thank you for doing what you're doing.
I love both! The improvement you’ve made is fabulous though. I can only hope I will experience the same growth. These comparison videos are wonderful too.
Hi Emma, I agree with many here. Both sets are just lovely! I am very new to this and have already learned so much from you! I love how you model so easily that it doesn’t have to be perfect and we can always keep learning. It’s very freeing for me personally. Colour mixing and being brave enough to add detail without fear of wrecking it is still a challenge for me so it’s always helpful when you show how to correct stuff. Thank you for taking us along in your journey! 🌸
Think you are a terrific artist! I watch all your videos and wish that I was sitting right in that room with you taking classes! I have learned a lot from you I must say. Keep the videos coming. By the way.....your son is adorable! Annette Mangone
This is very interesting! I love your style. I'm told that we should keep all of our work and compare where we are now to where we were so we can see how we've progressed. Looking at some of my first work is painful, but necessary and I really can see my progress. Love this video. Thanks for all you do to inspire us. xo
Emma, I started painting in watercolor last August and I loved watching your tutorials and trying to follow them. They are so great for a very beginner. I love the progress you have made and I think I have also grown a little better. I love your easy style and your tutorials. Keep them coming, please!
Hi Emma, I have stated in previous lovely tutorials that u post u are certainly improving & my goodness Emma, u definitely demonstrate that in this really lovely water colour tutorial I really thought it looked so professional looking thanks so much for taking the time to share your wonderful talent 👌 all the best stay safe stay well Lin, 🐕🌈🦋 .......P.S Please can you show how u paint different coloured butterflies thank u
You've absolutely progressed in the sense that your style now is tighter and cleaner, more detailed (as you stated). I do like your style better now, but I have to admit I also really like the loose florals as well. They're both really pretty, and they both have a place, if that makes sense. ❤️
This slow and detailed painting session is sooooooo helpful. I really appreciate the time Emma. For me as a beginner it’s like having my very own private tutor. Now if you could just send the white space fairy round to my house all will be well. Oh and stop making it look so easy - yes that would be good as well lol. Keep these coming. xx
Beautiful!!! That is great encouragement!!! I have been painting with you for about a year...I feel like I’m progressing too!! I also think, after painting many other things, I have come to realize that flowers are what I most love to paint! Thanks for teaching me! You, by the way, are the one who explained to me what a difference paper makes 😊
Thank you so much, Emma! A lovely tutorial. It is wonderful to see your art blossoming! I think I will try and start with one flower each day, maybe do tulips first. I love your art and these amazing videos! Stay safe and well. Love seeing your little Guy. 🙂💚🌿🎨
I love both, but do prefer the peony shape from last year’s best. I also agree that your color mixing this year is more nature like. You always inspire me, thanks.❤️
Great improvement in the past year. Keep up the good work. FYI - you mentioned it being hard to find Bee Watercolor paper. Just heard on the frugal crafter that the Bee paper company has been sold. Hopefully they will start selling their watercolor paper again when the sale is final.
great comparison on your flowers. I really like the more detailed new ones you just did. The white flower is stunning. Thanks for all of your videos. I always learn something new.
I like your flowers today and see great improvement. I have a watercolor journal of sorts, where I can see how my work improved from day one to the present. Lots of practice helps me feel more confident with my work and I can see measurable improvement over time.
Neat idea. You can see the improvement. That means there is hope for me! Watching your hand and brush strokes is my favorite. They are beautiful. A from Oregon
I bought the Princeton snap brushes from your link and I love them. I have a lot of brushes, most more expensive but I like these. Thanks. Love what you do😊
Thank you for all your recommendations. I am new here, just learning to paint. You are very easy to follow. I like that you show every move and explain every step. I have a hard time mixing colors, but you're helping me greatly. Thank you.
Your work was lovely then and now. Two slightly different styles and both gorgeous. I am trying to paint more loosely, so I'll keep on with your first style. I'm awful at adding every detail so the almost stylised, ethereal look is what I am trying to achieve. Long way from there yet though, but I love all your work. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and knowledge.🥰
You have such a great way of explaining things. I feel that I could become good at this by simply studying your tutorials! A massive thank you from England ❤️
So beautiful, I see much growth in your work but more than that, I cannot wait for the next video, you are very real, down to earth and easy to learn from and follow!!! Great job Emma!!!
Delightful Emma! I really appreciate your honesty, beautiful paintings. The recent ones show your use of more pigment & your peony is just like the one growing outside my bedroom window. Last year’s peony seems more like rose shaped. I love the ‘white’ freesia, white is difficult to portray but your freesias ‘pop’. Both paintings are amazing, you will still get people who watch both, Congratulations 👏🏻
I have been watching your tutorials since September. I definitely see an improvement in your work. I hope I can make some improvement in my work. I get very frustrated when things don't come out the way I want. But I have to realize it take tons of practice. Keep up your work. Love it!
I love your videos. I appreciate your being so honest about the areas you have improved in and how far you have come. It gives me hope that I can improve too. I do like the colored freesia better than the white one, just because I like the colors.
This comparison is so amazing! I noticed a difference as you were painting. I love how you add more detail to your work and you move faster and more precisely. Ive only been painting a few months but I would love to see if i can pull off loose floral since I just couldn't get my hands to coordinate with my mind before
This is amazing! Your previous watercolor floral tutorial is what encouraged me to try out watercolor and I've been enjoying watercolor since then. ❤️ Thanks for this updated tutorial. 😍
love watching your videos! I am a newbie and watercolor florals really excite me but I am struggling... watching your growth (mind you your baseline is soo good to start with) is inspiring!
