Waterfalls, Gorges and Silica Mines - Exploring Sychryd falls, a hidden gem of waterfall county

Sychryd falls this is a small secluded set of falls traversed by a wooden footbridge.
It's a lesser known gem situated in the heart of waterfall country in the Brecon Beacons National park.
Although not the biggest or most impressive set of falls in the area, its secluded nature, fairytale-esq surroundings, and lack of other visitors make it a perfect alternative hike to the Four falls or Elidir trails.

Took my son to Dinas rock after watching this vlog. Amazing place. Had a swim at the falls then took the more direct path down to the car park. Not for the faint hearted that. My son is pretty good with that kind of scrambling but wouldn't recommend unless you are certain you can handle it. Excellent guide to a great place. We've also just done the four waterfalls after watching your video and will be doing the Elidir walk next. Keep em coming Chris 👍.

Thanks Scott, glad you found it useful and enjoyed the area. Yeah the more direct path is definitely not for the average walker, especially during or after heavy rain.

Great video thanks. It's well worth pointing out that Sychan means Dry, and Mellte means lightening. These rivers can very quickly rise from a trickle to a flood unexpectedly and very quickly. I love swimming, jumping, scrambling in this area. Being conscious of the rocks is crucial.

Hi Chris, excellent videos, please keep them coming. A small correction if I may, the cave you refer to at 5.50 is a mine known as Middle Mine, which was also a tunnel to take drams from the higher level, bypassing the lower waterfall 7.00 and crossing the river on a bridge, the remains of which can still be found, and on towards where the car park now stands. The mine has collapsed at the far end and the lower levels are flooded. The cave Wills Hole is lower down the gorge near the waterfall at 7.43. It's worth noting that the land on the left side of the river going down stream is privately owned and there are notices threatening prosecution if caves or mines are entered.

Good video Chris. Went on Monday this week - just as an update, the marker post (1min 20sec) is still there but for some reason it does not have the number 52 on it anymore (no number at all) ? Also the sign post that shows clearly in your video has been removed. I knew it was the correct right turn because of the big spooky tree on the left shown clearly in your video.

I wanted to do a few days camping and found this place by accident. That little gem became a morning bath and the little overhang in the rock our fire for eating, drinking and debating/arguing/putting the world to rights. 🤣
