Waterparks & Liz Phair - WHY CAN'T I? (Duet Mix) [Mixed by hmnis.] 

A month ago, Waterparks released their fifth studio album, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. In North American, an exclusive Target variant was produced, containing two bonus tracks, one of which was a cover of Liz Phair's "Why Can't I?" from her self-titled album released 20 years ago this year. I hadn't heard the original song prior to the Waterparks version, or if I did, I had no memory of the sort. Until I found out it was even a cover, I simply assumed it was an original track. Despite it being a cover, it is genuinely one of my favorite songs Waterparks has done. So, because I am someone who puts songs together, naturally, this happened.
I did my very best to make this sound as natural as possible, and while I think I did a good job, there's obviously some cons that came with making this. The Waterparks cover is a few beats-per-minute faster than the original, on top of the original being in an unstable tempo to begin with. The isolations I attempted weren't as clean as they were with the Waterparks version, too, with the original song being mixed and mastered weirdly. I took the best isolation, did some mixing tweaks, this was the final result. I'm sure someone can do a lot better, and anyone wants to reattempt this for themselves, please do.
I do like how, during the choruses, because there is some slight desync at times, it makes the vocals sound very chanty and anthemic. As well as the back and forth in the bridge. Those are easily my favorite parts.
