Dental hygienist here. I use the WaterPik, in addition to standard flossing, and recommend it frequently and was able to get some great tips from this video. I like the idea of filling the reservoir twice and the lips closed for a less messy experience. Definitely will be adding that to my patient instruction.
@@Servant813 I have been wondering the same thing! I just keep it very close, sometimes it touches but it is hard to feel the difference once you get up to a high pressure!
@@nnahler now that I've been using my Waterpik for over a month now, I do touch the tip on the gums in between the teeth. I just slide it along the gumline. And you are right, it is hard to know for sure with the high pressure. I have mine on 8.
I started using these products recently since I am hesitant to go to a dentist these days. They have really helped me. I use the water pik and the sonic brush 2.0 with the water pik. Works great!
Great advice, I didn't realize I should use 2 fills one for upper and lower. Also great idea using the salt/peroxide solution! Never thought of that! Glad I watched this video, thanks!!!
OMG thank you for telling me to keep my lips pursed around the pic and then quick spitting. I just bought this unit and my whole bathroom got a shower... I made a horrible mess. Thanks! I am now more comfy with my unit and will use it regularly.
A really good product...it prevents the build of even the smallest amount of plaque-provided that you still brush your teeth regularly. I use it after the last meal of the day . After using this I do only drink water until next the morning. I brush my teeth in the morning plus mouth wash -somewhere during the day at work( ca 1 hour after lunch) and then about an hour after dinner-or whenever I have the last meal and beverage of the day.
I prefer and have the type that hooks up to the shower head, no power needed, no mess, no noise, no stopping to refill, less expensive and you can do it while showering. You can also attach it to the sink if you like.
Thank you Dr. It's nice to know I can replace regular floss with the water pit. At least that's what I just heard you say. I think I'll use both just to be sure. I LIKES MY TEETH! AND AGAIN THANK YOU.
Does this replace normal flossing? Or do both? Also I use bristle picks to and is it ok if they rub against the inflamed gum between the teeth? They bleed a little but only when I use the bristle pick and not regular floss. Guess I’ll look into buying one of these and see if that works better.
What about the sonicare air floss. How do you feel about that? I already constantly floss with those little stick flossers as I am very diligent about brushing and flossing, but are those things worth the money. They seem lots more efficient but that means nothing if it's not working as well.
10 is like supercharged you'll cut your gums open that's a really strong stream.water is known under pressure to cut things open. BE CAREFUL WHAT SETTING YOU CHOOSE IT'S A STRONG JET STREAM OF WATER.
steve henrichs hey steve sounds like the best setting to keep on it is definitely is number 1 as it’s default when using the unit i learned to keep it on the lowest setting possible
This is totally different than my periodontist trained me to do. Use a flexible small rubber tip. And move it slowly along the area between teeth and gums, spending extra time between teeth. Keep the pressure around 3, or it can damage your gums. Water temp is personal preference. I like it hot. It cools down quickly while going through the tubing.
After watching this video i went to the store down the street and bought it. My first time was a big mess... I sprayed everything around me. How often am i supposed to do this? Twice a day? Every day?
Today, I used it for the first time. While flossing I put the tip of the flosser in my mouth and moved it along the gum line but did not put at any angle. I’m scared it will spoil my gum line because of the pressure.
I saw a video that it should before, because the toothpaste contain fluoride that helps our enamel. So if you use it after, the fluoride would be washed out. I would say before brushing is best.
Thanks, for your video. I would like to add more info about using the Waterpik. Your comments would be appreciated. Maintenance and Use of The Waterpik (12-2018 ) Note: Follow the instructions before first using the Waterpik. 1. It is recommended that you plug the unit into a GFCI protected receptacle to prevent electrical shock. 2. Warm water is recommended. Water from your water heater may have contaminates. Use filtered water that is at room temperature. Do not add anything else but water to the water tank. 3. The Classic Jet Tip is effective for general use. The Pik Pocket Tip is more effective and is recommended at the 1 - 3 settings. 4. Just before using the Waterpik, point the tip in the sink, turn ON the unit and let water flow into sink, to get rid of existing water, then, rinse the handle and tip under water. 5. Do not run the unit with no water in the water tank. 6. The Waterpik can be used before brushing your teeth or after. String flossing is recommended. 7. After using the Waterpik: a. Rinse the handle and tip under water. b. Remove the tip and store it in a dry location, such as, behind the water tank. c. Remove the water tank and turn upside down to air dry. d. Push the button on handle to ON and lower the handle and hose below the unit and allow the remaining water to flow out. Use a container to catch the water. e. Store the handle inverted in its’ storage case. f. Unplug the unit from the electrical receptacle. 8. It is recommended that ONLY one person use the Waterpik. ( Tell children to NOT use the Waterpik unsupervised. )
@laurence brownstein filling the reservoir twice and use it for upper and lower teeth that will be more than 5 minute is it okay?cause i read in the instruction manual page 4 that "Do not use this product for more than 5 minutes in each two-hour period"
Well, I wish that I would have seen this video before I decided to jump right into using my water pick lol. I had water EVERYWHERE! That's also what I get for not reading directions lol. Lesson learned.
Can you get these at drugstores or are they only available online? I've had my braces on for three days and I'm realizing how arduous flossing traditionally has gotten.
they sell them at Target, Walmart, Costco, maybe Walgreens. I don't know if you have these stores in your area but a water pik is about 50-60 dollars if you get the one as in the video. I got one from Costco for I think $50 (which is the cost of just the water pik alone at other stores) and it came with a mini travel sized water pik as well as a second set of tips. Hope this helped
THIS THE BEST INVESTMENT A PERSON CAN MAKE.FIND A SETTING THAT FEELS COMFORTABLE AND MOVE FROM TOOTH TO TOOTH AT THE GUM LINE.YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THE FOOD PARTICLES THAT YOU DON'T GET OUT BY NORMAL BRUSHING.USE IT EVERYDAY AND YOU'LL FEEL A DIFFERENCE YOUR GUMS WILL FEEL THEN FOLLOW WITH FLOSSING.
Outstanding information, especially on the timing and choice of tips. And the amount of water that's used. It's too bad the Water Pic sounds like a jack-hammer in use.
Well ... he was saying this as in... 'I'm surely assuming you want to keep all your teeth .. so don't go skipping any of them!' ... (this was his point with that fun way of putting it comment).
That's an interesting question from A-DSplay/YuGiOh101. Flossing with mouthwash? It might get expensive though, I would think ? Maybe diluted mouthwash.
Ok, I am old school and this is so new for me actually this is the first time I'm seeing it. my teeth are very tight , Is there anybody with the same issue using this device? to me it looks like the same job as RINSING my mouth the way we normally do with water or mouth wash.
I guess you can use both string and the water floss for double assurance. Nice video, but you forgot to tell people as you use this particular unit that there is a pause button on the handle to stop the water from flowing as you pause to spit. They should have designed it so that you press the button to make it flow, not the other way around. Just got mine and I like it so far, but still a little uncoordinated using it. If you put some mouthwash into the water, it makes your mouth feel so much fresher.
What do you mean "only the teeth you want to save"? And how often should we floss? Ive been doing this every day for weeks and I'm sure it's creating increased sensitivity to cold water. Also not sure it's kind on my gums.
Mr Brownstein, what about the air-water jet that they use on the patients in the dentist chair? That seems so much more effective. It too is a continuous jet, but of both air and water. I guess it would be expensive to buy tho.
I have this exact Waterpik model. Dude you are tough as nails.! Level 10! My gums bleed like hell on a level 7! I have very healthy gums and I find level 5 works well for me. Yikes a 10! 🤯🤯🤯
Once you start using this you never feel clean teeth without it. And your dentist will notice the difference from the past exams when they examine them again.
