Waterproof LED Lights For Catfish Boats [Super Cheap]

I’ve always had some sort of lighting system installed on my catfish boats to use when catching shad at night and early in the morning and for night fishing for catfish. For some reason when I got my SeaArk ProCat 240 I never installed any lights on the interior. The ProCat has a small light on the passenger side console that lights a small area but for some reason, I’ve never used it much.
This past winter I was catching shad early one morning in the dark. I stepped down off the front deck to grab my iPilot remote. It was pitch black outside and I was in a hurry and I tripped and fell in the front of the boat. I fell hard enough that I was banged up, scraped, and bruised in multiple areas and it took me a few days to recover.
As soon as this happened I decided I needed to install some lights on the SeaArk ProCat 240 so I started shopping.
Historically I’ve used a couple of small floodlights for lights on my catfish boat. They put off a lot of light but they also have a tendency to get in the way and they put a big drain on the batteries but the technology has changed significantly since the last time I installed lights on my catfish boat.
I knew I wanted LED lights because they draw a minimal amount of power and wouldn’t create battery issues.
After shopping around some I decided I wanted the waterproof LED strip lights instead of the traditional floodlight. The waterproof led strip lights available for boats to come in a variety of colors (which can help with bugs and visibility) and are also much more low profile so they can be mounted almost anywhere and they’ll stay out of the way.
I started shopping around looking at different options and got overwhelmed pretty quickly. There are hundreds if not thousands of different options and brands available. I found lights that were as cheap as $10 to some that were as much as $600 to $700 for a set to outfit a boat.
After doing some research online and talking to a few different anglers about LED lights for boats I made a decision. I looked at a couple of boats with $700 LED lights installed and a couple with the cheap LED lights installed also and I couldn’t really tell the difference between the two options. The biggest difference between the cheap and expensive options seemed to be the warranty and longevity of the product.
I’d be installing the waterproof led lights inside the gunnel of my SeaArk ProCat 240 so installation would be quick and easy. If the lights didn’t last a long time it wouldn’t be a big deal to replace them.

The adhesive usually sucks on those strip lights. Whenever I stick them onto whatever I'm doing. I clean it good using an aggressive cleaner like brake clean or carburetor cleaner. Something that evaporates fast. And every 8-10" I'll dab some clear silicone/adhesive and put the lights through that as well. It really helps. The other option is to install them a few days after a fresh paint job. So I'm waiting at this point until summer when I repaint my new boat interior before I install mine. Thanks for the video. Looks nice and bright for sure. Probably makes a big difference for night time fishing.

Great Video Chad , Me and my wife just bought a 2020 SeaArk Big Easy. We do quite a bit of running at night on the rivers here in Tennessee . I'm going to mount my headlights but if I go under they will get torn up and if I go on the deck I'll trip and go swimming . Do you have any suggestions on the best place to mount 2 (3 x 5) led headlights. Thanks for all you for the sport of Catfishin

Red is the best color for keeping bugs away.

Does the blue color attract insects such as mosquitos and such? I am going to rig my boat up for night fishing and wonder about which color would least attract insects into the boat.
@Catfishedge
@Catfishedge 7 лет назад
+redneckradtech Yes. Red is the best IMO but puts off least light

Maybe you did, but you didn't say it that way, my boat has a three way switch, off, navigation, and anchor. I put all my led's in on the anchor side of the circuit, that way when I am running there are no inside lights to blind me in the dark. I didn't use the long light strips, but I did use strips, I used the kind for marker lights on the front of high end cars under the head lights, they are much brighter, and whiter, and gives you good light to see when tying knots and getting hooks out. I put one under the console, one just behind the opening in the front casting deck, and one normal led replacement bulb in the small light that was already built into the console on the side. I also switched mine with another three way switch, so I could have one or two or all three running. LED's will literally run for weeks off a deep cycle marine battery without running it down. I took both strips I got and hooked them up to a small riding lawn mower battery inside before installing them, and just hooked them up and let them run 24/7 as I wanted to make sure that they would not run my battery down too bad. After a week and a half of 24 hrs. I took them off and gave up lol. Still burning bright. Here in St. Louis and on the mighty Mississippi you don't want a dead battery,

@kdoguncledaddiesmisadventu4366
Marty Mac That was going to be our question. Battery life. You use a small lawn mower/tractor style battery you say? Have to try that out. Thanks for sharing!!
