the moment that I saw your response i thought of my parents. i warn them of this repeatedly and they live in a duplex with a neighbor on the other side of the wall from their dryer. I posess years of certified disaster relief experience and I was under the assumption that most residential fires are fueled by accidental dryer lint ignition, already (according to several insurance adjusters I have worked alongside and via my own, oersonal, experience in the field) , never researched the numbers, until moments ago.. FYI the national avg is a staggering 92% and that's a very spot on value. if i had to guess without seeing that from my own experiences i i woukd have guessed roughly 85% to 90% of all structure-fires.. That 92% number is taken straight from a factual data sheet and it is current. Due to this awareness and from constantly witnessing this disastrous result first-hand multiple times - I automatically check the dryer filter prior to use as soon as i begin using the washer and again after each dry cycle. ocassionally during a longer cycle. definitely prior to re-running a new cycle using the same load. i constantly pass this info in a residence where i notice this is not being practiced, regularly -im not stating it isn't being done, at all, but i've seen several loads worth of lint build-up on filters to this day after hundreds of warnings to some of the same people . this should be checked each and everytime before and after each dry cycle even if you're in the habit of doing so - as I am. It is never a bad idea to always check prior to use after a break from laundry (hrs days eyt) and ALWAYS after. We are all human there's been a time or 2,when even i have forgotten to clean my filter on my final dry-cycle or prior ro anither but remembered while in progress -then immediately paused the cycle to clean,that filter. this is,why it IS important to habitually check prior to beginning the next session. preferably before even loading clothes into the washer. don't simply assume bc you are very good at keeping up with frequent filter cleaning habits that you're perfect and it was cleaned after the previous cycle. i still check and have admitted that i have forgotten a time or two. don't leave it to chance it's serious stuff and not worth the potential loss that may stem from not sownding a few seconds to check and be certain that your filter. thilexl first tging on my mind is that dryer filter prior to even loading the first load into the washer. it's much easier to remember to check immediately prior to beginning a session than 100 percent of the time after the final load once tieedness begins to. technically, a fire may during a cycle that had begun with a cleaned filter so it isnt a bad idea to check on it based on load types and sizes.. longer layoffs increase the odds of danger exponentially. the new unused dryer sheet trick makes this a breeze. Repefition helps to prevent build-up even if you forget after the very last load. it is so easy to half-@ss clean a filter especially the fold outs with several areas segmented between plastic framing. so use a clean unused dryer sheet and gently rub in one direction. the sheet will essentially clean the filter for you with little no force thanks to the anti static cling - if it's fesh and unused. tbh, after reading the response about never thinking of using dryer lint i wasnt surprised (not a knock on you at all) not even sure if this got thumbs up for same,reason or to raise awareness . however thats all we are doing rasing awreness on an easily overlooked habitual practice that repeatedly results in loss of many things (including lives) . Routinely praxricing these habits will allow the dryer to run efficiently. You kay even rinse the filter, occasionally, using distilled water in order to prevent mold growth . air or pat dry thoroughly prior to next use. Get in the habit of checking the filter before and after use. it's easy to do and if more poeole were aware of this, relealized how risky it actually is ignore this simple maintenance then there would certainly be much less structural fire damage.. also, if you have a front-loadong machine -such as Samsung's design with the vertical filter that unfolds dont forget to poke through the square holes below and around the handle with something in order to keep them from clogging.. while many wouks check another's medicine cabinet (joke) imcheck the dryer filter if nearby. i am able to easily ballpark with high accuracy just how many dry cycles were run with neglect to filter-cleaning based on what I've seen afteerca brief inspection (and YES. i DO clean that filter prior to reinserting it :) Hope this helps raise awareness in order to save lives belongings keep neighbors safe etc.
I just got mine yesterday it was like $10 and I'm actually surprised by the quality. It's extremely solid and doesn't have any pieces that rattle or anything and everything seems built to last. It was way better than I expected for something so cheap.

My aunt used to save dryer lint, molding lint into the shape of a rose. It might take a few loads. Then set each into empty egg cartons, drizzle a very small amt of wax on each, set the carton near her stove and used them as fire starters. The woman's touch ~ Bu'geqqouts ~ I crack up when on nake&afraid the woman is sitting there chilled and making decorative items, basket weaving decorations for inside a temporary shelter.
What i think is a bit funny is I 'lit' mine right when I got it, and the kids were in the livingroom... my son wasn't even paying attention and was like AHHH what is that sound, its hurting my ears!...and my daughter even kinda wigged out also! So now I torture them with it from time to time... I think it sounds pretty cool.. 😂😂
I like it but me personally I don’t like how small and contained it is, what I mean by that is that the flame area is just a super small square, if you end up needing a larger area you’re bust.Great product though!
My grandfather back in the 80's taught me to use dryer lint, but he would stuff it into a big piece of tinfoil with some pine tree gum. And then you're ready to go, he'd say.
Great lighters. It's not plasma though and there is a much better version of this available now, same design but the arc end has the nodes pointing up for easier lighting and the head pulls out on a bendable goose neck. bit hard to find as theres 2 versions one that dosent have the retractable neck for candles.
Plasmas are not made for lighting anything other than cigarette. You can try and somehow do it but the makers focused primarily on lighting a cigarette because most people these days buy lighters to light cigarette. So they are not versatile. If you want something that's versatile, go for Jet flame lighters. They are windproof and versatile but you have to pay extra for that refueling often, unlike plasma lighters where you have to just charge like your mobile phone and you're good to go.
You might want one where the prongs are on top, cigar lighter style. Get one with a longer neck if you're lighting bbq or gas grills, bendable neck if you're lighting candles.
I have the same brand of the plasma lighter and every 7-8 seconds the plasma cuts out, and will relight again if i let go of the button and click it again, is this a major problem, or is this a temporary problem?
I'm gonna be honest even though it lasts a long time and is pretty cheap and works as expected, it will break. My arc prongs shifted shape as I used it continuously causing the arc to not form correctly. Today the charging port broke off because it's not secured properly and is cheaply made. I would recommend getting something a bit more expensive and higher quality so that it lasts longer. Also this brand lighter has a super small lighting area, making it less viable in certain situations
It looks good and may work but how long will it last. I rather have a normal bic lighter with the wheel. If the gas is up you still have the wheel and mini ferro that makes the sparks. So you can fluff up the dryer lint or cotton wool and ignite it with lighter sparks. If you have a meduim to big ferro rod well no problem. With the plasma you can try hook up led and try to see if it lights up like a mini flashlight.

Get fatwood and keep it on you and bic lighter for your flame 1st time everytime. If the gas is up you still have sparks that can ignite fluffed up tinder . If you have cloudy weather this plasma lighter might not charge and make enough spark

I do keep a Bic lighter in my kit, and one in each of the bags that get used outside, Along with a bar of magnesium, ferro rod and striker, and a couple of specially-shaped celluloid guitar picks. Absolutely. High winds here blow Bics out easily. I did buy one of these plasma lighters after. It seems to be pretty reliable so far. The nice thing about it is that it works with with a solar or fire charger out in the bush. But it hasn’t got the high wind with driving rain treatment yet. Bic lighters are really handy, but there are a couple of disadvantages to them: if they get wet, they don’t work. A person has only to fall into water, and in that case, when it’s most important to be able to put together a fire quickly, you could really be a bad way to have to wait till the lighter is dried out very well before it work again. They can be used just as a spark wheel, undoubtedly, but that’s probably not the best tool for high winds and rain. And I think everybody I know has fallen into water and needed a fast fire. The other disadvantage to relying on a Bic or even any other system that relies on fuel, is that sometimes it’s not always easy to get back into town for fuel. Or in the case of a disposable like a Bic, an entirely new lighter. So that’s probably one of the part of my hiking and camping gear that has the most redundancies. So far, for trying to light a fire in driving rain and high winds, my favourite is a mini butane soldering torch. It weighs almost nothing, isn’t much bigger than a regular lighter, and has some serious BTUs. So far, they dry off pretty fast and work almost right away. On the downside, though, they’re a bit delicate in that after a while, they just quit. That may have something to do with exposure to salt air. And there’s the whole fuel thing again. Otherwise, it tends to be about taking a tin and scraping a few magnesium shavings into a bed of charcloth with one of my guitar picks, and ignition with a ferro rod, as the back up to the butane torch. Once that’s going, I usually have a couple of emergency candles in the backpack to make sure that the fire stays lit long enough to dry out the wood fuel. Your fatwood idea will probably be an excellent substitute for the candles. That’ll be the next experiment along the quest, as it’s a whole lot easier to come up with a bit more fatwood on the fly in the woods then it is another candle. Lonnie and his wife (I believe her name is Connie) from Alaska had a good idea, and it works really well. Essentially, it’s a system of Petroleum jelly or wax-impregnated cotton-wrapped Strike-anywhere or hurricane matches (x5), rolled in strip of duck tape, protected by a section of old bicycle inner tube. It gets wrapped in Enough of a sheet of foil to be able to unwrap it and use it as a tray underneath tinder to keep the melting wax or petroleum jelly from escaping into the ground before he can do its job as it burns. Those two are sheer genius. So that’s another top-three solution that works fast in some pretty adverse conditions; there’s at least one or two of those in a tin in every bag. And of course there’s always the option of using an emergency road flare, as there’s not much damp fuel that they won’t stay lit long and hot enough to ignite. So even though there are some excellent options available, especially one-time use options, the quest continues for something lightweight and absolutely savage that will work even under those conditions, and preferably has an easily-renewable fuel source that doesn’t require a trip back to town. :) Thank you especially for the fatwood suggestion. It’s not something that we have much of, but I think it’ll be well worth the effort to collect some.It will be very interesting to see how that performs. :)
I still keep this as a backup (as in a WAY far backup). It's still better to buy those packs of 24 lighters for like 6$ at Costco. This "plasma arc" is still nothing compared to an actual open flame. It has its usefulness, but when it comes to starting a bonfire, especially for survival, a fuel lighter is still king.

Well youre gona have cold nights with raw food in the woods i suppose...😂. Man take some ducttape and put on a little noose. Then attach it to your trouser where the belt goes through. Then you cant loose it . Or get a friend to 3d print a lighter case for you with a ring on it to attach with string and or carbiner.
No. You charge it like a phone. A phone charger plus into the ac wall outlet which is 230 here in sa and there by you guys 110v something. Anyway the charger adaptor you plugged in drops and converts the ac volts to a lower dc volts thats regulated to 5v usually that charges the phones battery.
All the demonstrations on RU-vid I’ve watched concerning this lighter being “waterproof” have only thrown it in the snow for a few seconds or in a glass of water for just a couple of seconds. That’s not showing just how waterproof this lighter is. What if you were in the fray during a heavy rainstorm that soaked you to the bone for an extended time or you had to swim across a river or creek or even fell into the water and had to swim to the bank? Just how long can this lighter be emerged in water is what makes sense to a survivor. Get real!!! This is supposed to be a waterproof lighter.. Is it actually what they’re promoting it as or is it water resistant instead? Edited to add that I’m a 40 year long survival instructor and militia member and former member of the military. That’s why I’m being so critical of all these RU-vid videos made by those who wouldn’t survive a week in such a realtime survival situation.
It looks great, also the ability to take it on airplanes... But really, micro-USB, in 2021? That's a deal breaker for me, especially since I just switched everything to USB-C. I'm not going to bring an extra cable for a lighter, plus I don't really want to deal with the flimsy charging port that this seems to be, which will likely fail sooner than later.
