With Ryan's ru-vid.comUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
Probably one of the most relaxing and professional roofing videos I have viewed. I roofed for afew years and I know it's hard work but you guys made that look easy!
AMAZING. I did not know quality workmanship at this level still exists !!!!! If I could find just 1 contractor that would care this much about his work, I would not have to be learning how to do multiple jobs myself. Have you guys thought about moving to the USA?? LOL. You would never run out of work. Thanks for the video.
I hate it that my dad works in roofing! It's such a horrible job in the summer and the cold weather :( Thad why I understand what he does to support our family :)
Wow I hate it for you also I started when I 13 and I am now 45 and I recently got electrocuted with 14,400 volts while working and in a wheelchair now and I can’t work so be careful out there I am on way recovering but it is very difficult
This is the correct video for anyone who needs to find out about this topic. You realize so much its nearly hard to argue with you (not that I truly would wantHaHa). You positively put a brand new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Great stuff, simply great!
Tell ya what, after working in the roofing section of a home improvement store for years, its REALLY refreshing to see things being done professionally, instead of just the cheap and wrong way
Very well done Sir. If you didn't live a 1000 miles from me, I would have you do the roofs of several of m holdings. Great attention to detail. Your flashing efforts were very impressive.
I have never done a roof like this from firestone. Good to see how it's done. I have to watch again to learn. Almost the same as TPO expect the Welders aren't used. Good vid.
EPDM rubber roofing systems are the way to go on most types of flat of low slope roofs especially in Connecticut where ice and snow are both a huge problem during the winter months.
I lay epdm in norfolk england and rain is every other day here, it doesn't always work quite the same as in the film 9/10 but least when the heavens do open up the 1 piece system makes it easy to get a roof water tight and when the weather is dry out comes the iron and rags 30mins later rubbers dry ready to stick.
You can't beat Firestone, the video was well put together as well, however, that roof will leak, especially if it was put on in a climate that experiences harsh winters
Amazing video Best of luck with your channel and stay blessed Your video is very interesting! Good luck ! 💐! 💐! 💐 Have a wonderful day! Keep in touch and stay safe Dear! Wishing you love, happiness, and wellness! God bless you
Thank you for your comments. Also we are highly flattered that some are using the success of the high in demand Firestone EPDM, the quickest and easiest roofing system, to advertise their GRP alternative. We would be very interested to hear how quickly a GRP method would need to be laid down and what issues, if any, a liquid applied roofing system would experience should a rain cloud appear? Multiple installation sequences and waiting for materials to dry are only a few of the reasons the GRP would be an inferior system to the 50+ life expectancy of Firestone EPDM. Firestone EPDM comes in one piece up to 12.2m x 30.5m and if you are caught off guard by a raincloud, simply roll the rubber sheet out onto your roof and use it as a temporary waterproofing membrane while you wait for the conditions to improve. 20 year warranties are available with the Firestone EPDM and only adhesives are used, no flames. 45mins - 1 hour average installation time, it truly does speak for itself. Any further questions please feel free to get in touch
There aren't many in Mexico this skilled, but you have a few guys that know right from wrong. In mexico you can get a way with a ballast system no problem.
Looks good...thanks for sharing. A lot of things that have to be done right. I will say though that UV rays takes a toll on rubber and plastic products over time. I'd like to see this product after being on a roof in warm sunny area for 20 or 30 years.
not sure if you still view these comments but I have a flat terrace and loved your vid. The comments below kind of scared me though. 1. How does this product stand up to temps of below freezing? and 2. what were those boards you used in the 2nd application? I would love to add a small slope. Can i use those boards to do this or what would you recommend since a terrace is normally walked on? 3. Lastly, how would you cover the terrace porch drain? tks
Can we extend the life of a sloped asphalt shingle roof, by covering it with some kind of material like this or something sprayed on? My only concern is that this new layer, if it ever became leaky, would trap water underneath itself.
Asphalt and rubber aren't compatible, the asphalt shingles would significantly deteriorate the rubber membrane over time, if you're gonna install a rubber roof, which is more expensive than shingles, you're better off tearing the shingles off, replace any bad decking, install a nice insulation board to help with heating a cooling, then install a new Firestone 60 mil EPDM rubber roof. However, the ROI for shingles and flat roof on any pitched roof a 4/12 or steeper, shingles are the better option.
I'm not an expert, but the attention to detail in putting on that roof seemed to me to be first rate. Now if you could only find someone else who would do the same you'd be in good shape. Thanks
Does this prevent ice jams in winter? We have a similar setup to carport image @ 0:36... but instead of a carport it's an enclosed sunroom coming off the main house. Thanks
Wow, you guys should be advertising in the Caribeans. I live in Puerto Rico and boy I have try everything to stop water penatration. I recently try Danosa. Let see how that goes.
I noticed the very weak stagger of the insulation ,.and the single layer ,.dual layer is much better to.prevent thermal shock , half stagger seams in the inso prevent railroad tracking on cold mornings .
We have a similar roof installed on an almost flat sunroom that has been built onto the rear of our brick-veneered home (new 2010). Unfortunately, we are experiencing (4) seperate leaks thus far everytime it pours...all (4) are very near the brick-veneer/membrane transition. The new membrane was installed just prior to the purchase of this home and we've not been able to find out who installed it? Any suggestions on "how" or "whom" could help us STOP the leaks at the transition point? Thanks.
Are you using Modular Water Based Adhesive on vertical surfaces here: 2:30 ? You let it tack off, but is that the same adhesive as you used on the decking? Are you using it as a contact adhesive?
2011zurich i noticed that too lol, it will work as a contact glue (takes a long time to flash off in the uk lol) and can be useful on low slopes to stop the rubber sliding under your feet but its not meant for vertical surfaces. I think it even says so on the bucket
No edge protection, no protection around roof light, walking on parapit without edge protection. And all this in an industry that saw 165 fatalities and thousands of RIDDOR events from 'falls from height' last year. Well done chaps! Lets hope nobody replicates this believing it to be a Safe Method of Working! I'd love to see the RAMS for this!
+Steve Riddell Hey Steve,, get off the union or OSHA bullshit. There are actually men still alive who can walk on a flat roof,, talk & chew gum at the same time without wearing a safety harness or walking blindly over the edge. This isn't some 12/12 pitch they're working on,, it's a new "flat structure" with sound footing beneath. Don't let it bother you so bad buddy some people actually like the DIY methodology without paying a sub contractor three times the price for a job. This was a "technique demonstration",, not a government safety review. Remove the stick & breathe in some fresh air pal,, this was a very professional demo!
You are screwed ... especially if you can't find the puncture points. Even a teeny-weeny puncture can cause a leak that shows up thru the plywood / OSB decking AWAY FROM the puncture spot ... and then causes the decking to rot over a couple of years. That is exactly my pickle ... thanks to falling branches. Small punctures can be very hard to find.
Does this work if your are in a region with lots of cold and snow (Quebec). When do you need to install the foam insulation underneath the roofing system ?
No water cut off behind flashing? No term bar? And why was the lead jack installed upside down? No fasteners at perimeter of curb(s) , no fasteners at perimeter of roof either?
What would the cost be for that particular roof? Where my house is, the snow melts to a sheet of 4 - 6" ice, and it would probably grind that rubber off in a few years.
What about a flat concrete garage roof that is also used as a patio/porch? In other words there is foot traffic on it. There is one drain in the middle but not a good slope anywhere.
A GREAT cold-application rubber roof. HOWEVER, I defy the average DIY homeowner to cut the rubber in a STRAIGHT LINE (for flush seams), lay the rubber completely flat without ripples, and then join the seams for a tight snug leak-proof fit. WORSE YET, I defy the Homeowner to find a competent roofer who can do the job correctly like the guys in the video.
what are you going to do when those deck nails back out, I would never fully adhere a single ply roof directly over a wood deck. I Always install a separator sub straight
🔴🔴🔴 This vid is fast approaching a decade since it was posted. And since this technology was developed at least two years before this video was made, means that ten years later, I’m sure there are new and improved products out there. So, always ask a few area professionals what products is best to seal flat roofs. 🤔 Never saw anywhere for the water to drain on this flat roof.
how can i find this product we just moved here in iowa and we have been here 3 years now and water is comming into our house. and can 1 person do this or can your company come to us to give an price for us. we live on disability. i am not sure i can do this myself.
whethere it is waterproofing and what is the cost per unit narea? who are the suppliers and installations peoples in kerala,India. What are the dourablity?
Firestone Epdm can last a long time if done well like this, however large sheets and contact adhesives are not for Diy ers, many Diy jobs fail & its a lot of wasted money. Great product
Hello, First of all , I need to say thank you for a great professional video. Amazing work guys. I see that this video was posted in 2010. Has the seam process changed since then? I would much rather see a overlap rather than butted together. I am a newbie to this project and i'd like to do my homework before I start my install. Finally, I have 2 parapet walls capped with Terracotta, every roof i look at has the membrane going up as far as they can. I fear water might make its way behind the epdm membrane. Am I being paranoid or should that beautiful terracotta be ripped off and wrap the membrane all around the parapet wall ? Thank you, Al
This vid scares me, in terms of a flat root, I am skeptical once the heavy rains come if this will really stop the crazy leaks or not... Maybe it will....
For a short period of time it will. If this roof doesn't experience harsh winters, snow or ice, it will still last at least 10 years if not more. If it works it works, but its bad to mislead folks into thinking this is the way to do all roofs everytime. Every environment is different. I gotta deal with ice and snow, so this roof would fail miserably in Michigan.
