I have owned this trolling motor long enough for it to be out of warranty. In this video I tell you what I think of the motor, the customer support and fix the motor too.

Even though I'm not an engineer, I too like to attempt my own repairs on most things. But I got to say, that trick with the paper towel and shop vac was a new one to me. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I am still amazed that you don't have like 500k of followers. The rest of the fishing world doesn't know what they are missing out on!

Thank you...making these videos is mostly fun but, it can get a bit thankless. Getting comments like yours keeps me pushing forwards. Cheers.

@@EngineeredAngler Thanks for the video. I would have attached my string on the ends of the old wire at the top for the initial pull out. Then the string is already threaded an in place for the return trip back up the tube.

@@booster4470 Yep,that would have been the smarter and quicker thing to do.....

The trick with the shop vac pulling the string through was a great to know.

It's such a great feeling to fix something yourself especially when it's somewhat complicated. Back when I was a poor college student I had to learn automotive repair even though I was more of a wood working guy in high school (actually more towards arts and crafts if I'm being honest). But after suffering sticker shock at the local garage and looking at the guy doing the repairs I figured out fast that that I could do it as good or better with a few tools and knowledge. Luckily the repair manuals were incredibly detailed. Unfortunately that was before phones with cameras and a few times I ended up with extra bolts and no idea where they were supposed to go but usually the job turned out well.

I have had mine for a year and a half as well, so far no issues! I have been pretty impressed with the motor nd the way it works. Great job on getting yours up and running again! Great job on them sending you the parts to repair it for free!

Excellent documentary on a DIY project. I love it when a broken object can be returned to service. I am currently having words with a stubborn refrigerator ice maker.

Great video and content. I also saw in the comments below that the motor crapped out again which is disappointing as i am looking to replace my Motorguide and the Watersnake was an option. I'm in Australia but the info is still relevant and helpful, so thanks for posting. I've also just subscribed 👍

Yeah I grudgingly went back to the "Big Two" motor makers.

Gotta say my Motorguide has performed well and pretty faultlessly for years now, but it's getting a bit knocked about and I really would like spotlock.@@EngineeredAngler

I like fixing things that's already broken. The pressure is off and it can only get better. I really don't know how people get by if they can't work on what needs fixing.

I don't know either but a decent handy person will always have work.

What component was it that burned out ?

It's the motor controller

@@EngineeredAngler any ideas as to what caused it to burn out? I’ve used a few 24lb Watersnake TM’s and they get wicked hot if running full speed for some time. Great video, thank-you and subscribed!

If you don’t have a powerful enough shop vac use the wire coil we use for making line ties………It makes a great snake………

I meant so I have got a lure maker So I'm cutting my own dive lips out of Polly acrylic Or plexiglass whatever you call it from the hardware store because that's what I've got access to One thickness is point 50 and the other 1 is point 93 The thicker one is very stiff it makes it easy to Easy to shape but also it's easy to break if you put too much pressure on it The others are more flexible but when you cut it down to the right size it does still have some flex but it is very stiff I wanna get your thoughts on which one I should use I'm making 1 of those little wormhead attachments That you made the last year Making it out of wood cause I've had no luck using resin
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 2 года назад
Use the thin one...it's easy to work. You don't need a heavy lip unless you're making a big lure or using a lip longer than 3/4 of an inch...or so.

So how has the trolling motor performed since the repair? Would you recommend it to others? I'm thinking about buying one and wanted to get your opinion. Thanks for the video, It is very much appreciated!

Sorry to say that the motor completely crapped out. And the folks at watersnake are ignoring me. I didn't expect any free parts just a bit of help. I got nothing. Going back to motorguid...

Im in north Florida too. Im retired and fish 3-4 times a week. Is there any way you would be willing to teach an old timer about making the lures.

I was pretty disappointed with the durability....most motors I've had endure a lot of running hours before they crap out... this one had less than twenty. I would be hard pressed to buy ir again.

I agree but, I have owned 8 trolling motors and they all crap out at the 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year mark. Then you either have to be Mr Fixit or you toss it out.
