The problem for Foden is Man City have a small fanbase so pretty much every media outlet dislikes him and marks him down. I'm not a city fan but Biases aside Foden ran them ragged today and throughout the tournament all of our best moves have gone through him. They man marked him in the second half but his drop off applies to every player, Mainoo is quality but didn't do much in the second half either. Foden at least started the play for Saka's disallowed goal. I just don't get where the overly harsh criticism comes from.

I believe southgate is a great tactical manager and his substitutions are done after careful analysis of the players and positions. His substitutions were really clever top notch in the last two games-- against Switzerland who are extremely compact defensively, he didn't use Watkins as he needs spaces to operate , but against the Dutch he noticed that spaces need to exploited. Southgate also isn't not an emotional manager who panic walks into substitutions, he trusts his big players unless they're tired or ineffective individually that their performance hurts the collective effort. Southgate isn't a great technical manager and the system he built is deficient in the technical aspect of the game. The thing is we're blaming saka, fodden, kean, bellingham as individuals, but the main problem is the collective system which lacks basic passing game principles-- e.g, quick passing; variation in passing(short/long, sideways/forwad/progressive); movements, widening the pitch and through balls from both advanced and deep positions. That's what's lacking and it's the shortcomings of Southgate.
