The Flag Evolution SSB film is a national anthem film that was produced by Saxton Graphic Associates, Ltd. in 1971, also known as Saxton Communications Group, Ltd. The performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" was performed by Bob Sharples and his Military Band, and was taken from the 1964 album America on the March. The film shows a history of the United States of America from the earliest white Europeans settlers, and concludes with the U.S. flag being planted on the moon in 1969. In a 1973 article in the San Antonio Light it was reported that the film took a year of research and the reviewing of more than 10,000 historical images from the Library of Congress, NASA, the USDA, Harvard University and the New York Public Library. The sign off quickly gained popularity, reported airing on more than 100 stations within 2 years of its release and being licensed for use by private corporations, nonprofits, and government bodies, including the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities for opening one of its conferences. Most stations that aired this film cut off the copyright notice for Saxton Graphic Associates at the end, notable exceptions being WNEW and WITI.
