I give the basic definition of a wave: a disturbance that travels through a material and carries energy with it without carrying the material along with it. I also go over the classification of waves by giving the definition of transverse and longitudinal waves (with examples of both) and defining mechanical and electromagnetic waves. There will be a future video that covers electromagnetic waves in more depth, for now we just need the basic definition.
0:00 Definition of a wave
1:26 Transverse vs. longitudinal waves
2:32 Examples of transverse waves
3:32 Examples of longitudinal waves
4:44 Mechanical vs. electromagnetic waves

These videos are amazing Andy. I really appreciate the time you've taken to get the best of the animations out there to show all these concepts in one place and added to them and given them context. Your own animations are amazing too. These will be a life saver for the rest of this year I think!! (and beyond!!) Have you posted on the IBO reddit forum about it? I can imagine there are plenty of year 1 students right now worrying about how they are supposed to deal with this massive gap in their course... they're the ones that are really going to feel the impact the most I think when all is said and done!

What about vortex rings? Do they carry matter through space?
