@@DuncanWilliamsOFFICIAL They have GPS, they know where they are. If they didn't know where they were, they wouldn't move because they wouldn't know which direction to go, or that they weren't already at the destination.
It's not for no reason though, the cars "think" they're in danger of being hit and "think" they need to honk to alert another driver to their presence. They're just not trained well enough to navigate this situation without making all of the cars around them "afraid" of them.
@@michaelwatson113 it's not confused it's a safety measure bug lol. all that happens is the cars reverse in the parking lot but if a waymo is behind another waymo this triggers waymos safety feature to honk. then if another waymo is behind that waymo it will back up too and then that waymo will honk causing a chain of honking. Now I'm not defending waymo they should fix this shit it's annoying af but it's not like the car is doing something dangerous.
I'm 100% sure they could patch it so they disable the honk functionality when in the parking lot, The car is aware of its location all the time, and constantly connected to the internet, it's not that hard.
Who the hell thinks driverless cars are an improvement? How much does one of these bloody things cost compared to a normal car and the chance for a human being to earn a living?
Automobiles are an improvement. They enable people to travel to the next town in minutes rather than days. They don’t drop poop all over the road. They don’t stink. The older model t could be easily converted into a tractor or power machinery with a flywheel. Driverless cars are pointless. If rich Americans are too lazy to drive they should ride the bus like everyone else
@@CycolacFanYou will be permitted to own a car in 2060, it likely will just be for the very rich, who will afford the fees, insurance, and other costs that will no longer be shared across millions of drivers. Even a car wash will have to be by hand, and the chemicals like car wax will need to be bought from specialty stores, bc everyone likely, hopefully not, will never own a car, just subscribe to it. Unless another pandemic hits, and no one wants to be in a dirty car with my germs all over it.😂

It's a good thing I don't live near those things. If I had to listen to that all night, those cars just might end up with flat tires until the noise stopped, or at least, that's the rumor I heard.
I lived next to a college intersection for 3 years. You learn a lot of trips and tricks. Noise cancelling earbuds, insulation over the parts where a glass window meets the frame, white noise and fan noise to break up the outside noise, etc. Lots of tips and tricks depending on the layout of your house to block out outside noise.
When taking the driver's test, we were taught the horn was only to be used as an emergency device. Maybe don't program the computers to use it when they get confused.
If they get confused as to when an emergency is, then it doesn't really matter. They think they're going to collide so they beep because it's an emergency. They're wrong but that's what the programming says. The issue is the detection of danger, not with the response
The horn is not an emergency device. I can't think of any emergency in which I would use a horn. It's for communicating to other drivers. Someone sitting at a green light on their phone.....
@@matt45540If someone is about to crash into something, you honk the horn to signal them to abort their manoeuvre. Seriously, this is what it says in the driver's manuals.
@@creamwobblytrain got a lot of momentum and on a track. Making the software for a train would also be much simpler. Check signals up ahead, control the speed, stop at stations. For cars, you have an extra axis of freedom and pedestrians and stop lights and bad roads and so many other things to deal with
“They’re honking at each other”. That’s how cars communicate with each other. Leave them alone and let them talk out their issues. So what if they experience drama like humans from time to time?
If it takes you more than the fingers on one hand to count the amount of times you get honked at in a year, you're the problem on the road. And I spend a LOT of my work hours on the road.
These cars are like little children. They discovered the honk and they like it, so they honk. In fact theese cars are "children", because the autonomous driving is at the beggining. A little child of my neighbour also likes to honk. 😁
They’re: texting, sending voice messages/cute cat vids from YT to each other at the end of the day. That honks mean: sent/received, lol, lmao, lmfao, liked, subscribed, saved, shared, donated. Peace/Love/Harmony.
i have ridden in dozens of these vehicles in SF which is NOT the easiest city to navigate with a vehicle and i have NEVER felt unsafe, quite the opposite in fact. they drive much more safely than most humans i have met over my lifetime
@@larrychatfield From the videos of Waymo that I’ve seen, they appear to be like those overly cautious or confused drivers that cause others to have a collision, which makes them a nuisance. In your experience as a passenger, have you noticed them being that type of hazard for other vehicles?
Nah Robot drivers in their infancy are already better than 80% of drivers on the road. No more dangerous than the avarage clown behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima

Shonky design work: 1. they can't even recognise they're from the same corporation and coordinate with each other 2. They're only jammed because the cars at the end of each row are swinging too wide and getting stuck next to the wall, which is nuts because there's no cars in front of them so they've got completely free path planning 3. Go to 0:53 and go forward a frame at a time: the car second from the right ('car 1') backs out in front of another car ('car 2') and doesn't stop even when it's got a clear line of sight to car 2, and car 1 can see that car 2 hasn't stopped. So car 1 _is programmed_ to reverse out and block traffic.
This whole maximum overdrive push is wrong wrong wrong. There are plenty of people to operate machinery. That's how it is supposed to be. Human operator necessary.
I like how self driver less cars are having trouble interacting with its own kind like humans and they are designed to prevent this from happening in the first place.
You're forgetting that the car was told to honk in the first place when there was probably no reason to honk. Why would a Waymo car honk at another Waymo car? There is absolutely no reason for this. They are both driverless. What is the point of honking if they are on the same network? It's stupid. Someone is was having fun and forgot that real people exist on the outside. The better algorithm is don't honk at other Waymo cars or perhaps, remove/fix the bug. This smells intentional to me.
I feel like Waymo cars should be able to recognize each other as fellow Waymo cars and just communicate directly with each other to navigate the situation.
SCAM AND UNFAIR LAWS wamo should be held under 1 drivers lic for all cars and cops should be able to ticket them for illegal honking etc that 1 lic would get suspended so fast unfair we did this we would lose our lic

Pretty much a nothing story by this news station. They focused on the condo owners reaction with zero effort to find out why this was happening, and what could be done about it.
Uh, they mention that the company figured out the issue and was working on it. Just because they don't tell you what the problem is doesn't mean they aren't making an effort to find out what it is. The company didn't tell the news what the issue was and the news doesn't need to know. All you need to know is that theh issue should be fixed soon. If taht's not enough for you, that's your problem alone.
