Most countries don't allow any self driving software tobe tested on an active public road. The US allows anyone to test flawed software on public roads. Everyone is a crash dummy in today's world.

The certification process for testing on public roads is very involved, but I agree that it needs to be even more strict.

I wish theyd use all this wasted money and time and just build high speed rail and trains within the cities. A million times safer, faster and reliable. We need to get people off the roads in cars. Traffic in austin, dallas, etc, is a dangerous, time-consuming, frustrating nightmare..

I agree that we need better public transit in the form of trains and rails, but Texas has already decided that roads are the primary transportation channel. Solutions like autonomous vehicles are going to be the best option for people who do not live near train stations. In many ways, AVs are also better than buses because walking to and from bus stations can be challenging for many people. We need municipal governments to subsidize the rides for low income folks to make sure that the service is equitable.
