I’ve commented a fair bit here in the past, and hope I’m not overstepping the mark. My health is really tanked, so I can hardly work, which leaves me with no money for therapy. If someone is stuck in freeze, how can they resource? Surely if they resource, then the body will relax a bit, which will throw up a whole load of trauma. This theory (ironically) leaves me completely frozen; I’m terrified of relaxing and making my activation worse. My system is hyperaroused to an insane degree, but there is a huge amount of bracing in my body. It’s locked so tight. Surely if I try and settle my body will soften and relax, releasing even more suppressed stress, throwing my arousal even higher, and making the load even more extreme. It feels like a catch 22 to me. Kathy Kain talks a lot about getting regulated before trying to unthaw a freeze response, but I don’t see how this is possible. If someone settles and regulates, then surely they’re going to relax this bracing, which will trigger further activation. This apparent cycle has me completely paralysed.

Hi Pedro, you are not overstepping 🙏🏼 All your comments are sincere and you are just seeking help. I'm sorry you're going through this and your question is an important one. I think I need to make a video response to it. Are you ok with me showing your comment on the video and reading it aloud? I've been in this position you are in right now. The only way I could get out was with non-dual somatic techniques plus a non-dual perspective. It has to do with feeling tones, how the mind reacts to sensation, and widening my perspective despite tremendous unending suffering. I would love to offer you a complimentary session so that you can learn some non-dual somatic techniques. Then you can do them on your own and have more tools. I was only able to get the mold remediation done in my place last month, so I am still at the beginning of my recovery. I am having to work part-time until I recover, so I only have openings starting the 2nd week of June. If that works out for you, we can plan on that. Hi Nina, Thanks for getting back to me. I’m happy for you to read the comment in a video. I’d love a bit of clarity on this, and surprisingly m it doesn’t seem to come up at all in these communities. It seems like such an obvious paradox to me. I feel I must be really missing something. That’s incredibly kind of you to offer a complementary session. Today’s been a rough day, and I’ve reached out to a local SE therapist who hopefully offers concessions, so I’ll take it one step at a time. I’ll be in touch if it’s not heading in a good direction. Hi Nina, I just wanted to say that I’ve managed to sort out an arrangement with somebody local that I can hopefully stretch to. I’m going to take a break from RU-vid for a short while, so I don’t get overwhelmed with information, so I just wanted to say to not worry about making the video if it was mainly for my benefit. Do involuntary spasms count as the same issue? I try some exercises for vaginismus but I have noticed my breathing has an amount of disturbance to it. So beside vaginismus I notice all kinds of freezes in my body. Thank you very much. I find topics you cover very crucial and yet very much ignored. Thank you for the good wishes! Yes, involuntary spasms can potentially be freeze response. If you watch my videos with "somatic ego" in the title, this is what could be contributing to this condition because of trauma or habitual bracing. However, vaginismus could also be due to candida and very few people know about that, so I would look into that as well. I'm going to make a video about pelvic floor and trauma sometime in the future as well. Best wishes in your healing 🙏🏼

Just found your channel and finding it helpful so far! I have a question about "crying" releases. When we release trauma and cry, should we be really FEELING into the sensations in the body, or "observing" them (like it's seperate to us)? I had a health coach tell me once to "observe" the crying and not become it. It seems like bad advice - because you have to feel it to heal it, right?? Or a think there's a middle ground there, of just allowing it. Not consciously feeling into it, and not observing. Just letting it happen. Love to hear your thoughts.

From my personal healing experience, I have realised it was impossible to get properly to the observation stage until I allowed myself to feel the crying releases and buried emotions enough to get to a point where I could observe it without getting involved. Unfortunately, a lot of life & health coaches, and even some hypnotherapists who do not have some sort of a background in psychology, psychotherapy, inner child training, trauma or somatic training - are not trained to work with those with Complex PTSD (childhood trauma survivors or deep traumas) because it is not there in their course material, no matter how good they might be. @Nina Love your channel. taught me so much

I'm very curious as to what you mean by "consciously feeling it" and by "really FEELING into the sensation". My guess is that what you're describing as "FEELING" is something your mind thinks it's doing to the sensation, which is not really what "feeling" is, and whatever you're doing could be creating more emotion or intensifying them. I agree with your health coach but I think maybe your health coach made a mistake by giving a nondual advice to someone who didn't explicitly state that they were interested in nonduality, since some people don't like nonduality. but this is a very nuanced topic so I highly recommend that you have a 1on1 session with Nina if you are interested in nonduality because I think she would answer that in a lot of detail.

I'm so glad the channel has been helpful! This is a beautiful question. It's really important that we put our attention on the sensations arising in the body rather than any story about the sensations, which are emotions. If you check out my video called "Seeing through Mental & Somatic Attachments: Emotions Are Attachments to Sensation Cycles," it will explain this in more detail. When we observe a feeling and realize we are not the feeling, but the one who is watching it, we are disidentifying from the feeling and identifying as the observer. This is good for breaking one of the hooks that gets us stuck. This can be found as the 3rd hack on the Trauma Flowchart found in the "How to Heal Trauma & PTSD with Somatic Experiencing" video. You can see on the chart how reinforcing this trauma cycle is, so it's actually important that we employ all of the hacks at some point. So this will include both of the things you have asked here. We can dance between these 2 things and in between them as well: (Just letting it happen as you said :) 1. Feeling through the feelings (and I will add: from the place of the one who it happened to or felt hurt by it), *while* not buying into the story about it. Going into the experience fully feeling to the point of being absorbed into this experience (without the observer or presence even intact) as long as we are not thinking about story. This is what you referred to as becoming it, which is okay in this context without story. 2. Observing the sensations neutrally and with curiosity, which is bringing presence, equanimity, and disidentification awareness to this feeling experience. You can explore what the body needs by simply trying on both of these and see how the body responds. Make sure to follow the body cues without imposing what should happen from the mind. However, you can use the mind to think of and try out the different hacks, but then let the body do the rest. Allow is the key word :) Mental imposition onto the body process is the main thing that causes the emotions to get stuck. There's no pressure with this...just play around with it and develop that trust with your body and allow it's requests, whether that's to feel, move, rest, etc...it will play out over time as the relationship to body heals, if not the first few times you try it. I will make a future video about severing the sensation from the story, but I hope this helps!! Good luck with it :)

He wants to remain anonymous, but I layout the beginning of his teachings in the self-realization video where I interview his other former student. Also, I share his stuff in the video on mental attachments, psychological ego vs somatics ego, primary emotions, ego hooks, etc. I feel a huge responsibility to pass on his knowledge, so I will continue doing that through videos and 1-on-1 sessions with people. Maybe a future book also. Glad it interests you!

Clenching and releasing muscles doesn't work for everyone. For some of us it feels worse. Warmth, gentle firm touch, magnesium, sleep... visualizing peace and calm... spending time with people who are safe... sometimes these are more helpful.
