Great video. I used to spend a lot of time on the Nantahala when I lived in East Tennessee. I still get the warm and fuzzies seeing your video.

Hey, all the trout were wild, except of course the brook. All those rainbows used to be 8 to 10 inches before the delayed harvest program. Nantahala is definitely one to be taken off delayed harvest, but the crowd that needs the dumb down fishing and the guides will cry. Majority rules even for bad policy. Good job on the video.

WNC .....thanks for watching. The upper nanty is such a nice stream. With that kind of reproduction....just make it catch and release and quit the delayed harvest stocking.

Great video! The way I tell a stocked fish from a native is to look in the mouth or in the gills. A stocky will have white flesh from eating the pellets they are fed at the hatchery. After eating the 'bugs' native to the water the flesh starts to get the salmon pink color from the keratin that makes up the hard shell on the 'bugs'. If they are first year native the color is only slightly pink and after several years the color is quite pink. It gets a little trickier with the large trout because they eat more fish than the smaller trout do. But how many 3-4# trout are stocked?

Thanks for watching! I had never heard of checking the mouth. Thanks for the info! Tightlines!

The best way to tell from stock and native is. The stock trout have rounded fins and beat up fins from the walls of the hatchery and beat up gills. The natives fins are pointy and they look flawless from no confinement. Plus rainbows aren't native here anyways

You guys had a pretty good day. Most of those delayed harvest fish start eating bugs within a couple of days. I'd say the only wild fish you caught were the small rainbows with the parr marks.

Not being familiar with the area, what do you mean by "The Upper Nantahala"? Isn't it just one river? Upper from what?
@WildBlueDiscovery
@WildBlueDiscovery 5 лет назад
The river is a tailwater with a large pipe type system that puts water in from the lake down river. Above that would be upper nanty...below that lower nanty.
@redfishonfly58
@redfishonfly58 5 лет назад
@@WildBlueDiscovery Oh so there is a dam with an impoundment. So it is the feeder to the lake, not the tailwater out of the lake. Got it , thanks. Nice looking water.
