The Czech Republic held undefeated Japan to a one-run game in the first round of the Men's Softball World Championship. The Czech's jumped out to an early lead, scoring all three of their runs in the top of the first.
All of the scoring in this game was accomplished through singles and grounders except for a catcher's interference call at the start of the game.
It took Japan five innings to gain the lead but their ace pitcher, Hikaru Matsuda, came in early and held the Czech's at bay once starter Takahashi ran into trouble. Matsuda flagged 12 on the day while the Czech pen combined for 6 Ks.
