There's really no silver bullet here, sorry. I'd practice at home as much as possible. If they can't do it themselves in that environment, then you'll likely have to keep doing it for them or try finding a different boot. Some do buckle easier. Either way, please make sure they are skiing in buckled boots! Their safety and ability to develop better skills and technique are in jeopardy when riding loose boots.

Thanks for watching Doublethink! You're not totally wrong, but after 60+ years of bootfitting experience our general equation goes 1 finger for high performance skiers, whether all mountain or race. Enthusiasts who ski 10-15 times a year are not willing to put up with the customization that's required with a one finger fit, thus we go to two. The goal of the vast majority of these skiers is to stay out on the hill for a whole day without cold, sore feet rather than crush the steep and deep. So while a two-finger fit (this fit always correspondes to their mondo size BTW) isn't as precise, it's tight enough to not have to crank the toe buckles until skiing technical terrain. All that being said, we are very aware of the issues that arise with too big a boot fit and work hard to convince the average skier of this. Have a great season on the slopes!

@@BillPaulsSporthausGrandRapids - Thanks for clarifying the fit. What would you do for ski touring boots, where users want a performance fit on the downhill, but room for the toes on the uphill?

@@Benzknees I'd personally err on the side of comfort, then add heel padding to hold the foot in place if needed vs bumping the heck out of the smaller fit. Most touring boots are now coming with laces and that's done a lot for keeping the foot solid in the boot as well. I downsized to the technical fit on my first pair of touring boots and loved the control while skiing, but my toes hurt for days and I could not get my feet out of the liners without taking the liners out of the shells first. After two seasons of that, I said screw it and went back to my normal 27.5 shell size and am a much happier skier for it. Full transparency, I am a mid-west glacial dunes skier and out-west powder hound. I am no longer dropping tight steep chutes or icy faces. In those conditions, tight and a little uncomfortable would be a smarter choice I believe.
