I remember Cherie Bank. She was the medical reporter for the station. And, I remember Janet Zappala moved to FOX29, back in the late 90's.

In the 1990-93 period, the red and white logo only went to 1991. Following that, WCAU went to the white background with the translucent pastels, and in 1992-93, this design was only used for news purposes.

Time to ID a few announcers here: - Gene Crane (staff): 0:05-0:15, 1:00-1:03 - Ron Rolland (who did V/Os for former sister-station WBBM-TV in the '80s): 0:00-0:04, 1:10-1:42, 2:06-2:08, 7:27-8:00, 8:19-9:33, 9:43-9:51 - Dude Walker (freelancer): 3:05-5:42 (opens only) - Bill Ratner: 12:15-12:20 - Howard Parker: 13:16-13:19, 13:48-14:04 - Steve Kamer (announcer on "Inside Edition"): 16:50-16:53 And a few nitpickings: - The open from 1:45-2:05 should go after the one from 0:24-0:40. - Updates to Shelly Palmer music packages are called "phases." - The cut used on the 1990-93 opens is the tail end of the phase 1 close. - "NewsCenter 10" lasted from January 1995 until the switch on September 10, and used phase 4 of "PNP." - You may want to place the open to the first newscast after the switch to NBC before the other 1995-97 "News 10" opens if you decide to update this video. - The last open uses "L.A. Groove," not "The NBC Collection."

Steve Kamer also voiced some of the opens using 360 Music's "NBC O&O Package."

It's hard to believe it's 25 years since "The Big Switch" of 1995. This is where WCAU became NBC and KYW became CBS. Also several cities were involved. It included: Boston, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St.Paul, Denver, Baltimore. My question is: Who really initiated "The Big Switch"? and looking back on the big switch, who really got the better end of the deal?
@lvdude8631
@lvdude8631 Год назад
Fox initiated the Big Switch. After they outbid CBS for football rights, they made a deal with a company called New World Communications that owned a bunch of stations, mostly CBS affiliates, and switched them to Fox. Two of the cities involved were Detroit and Cleveland, whose ABC affiliates also had the same owner, Scripps. CBS tried to convince those two ABC affiliates to switch to CBS, and as a defensive move, ABC signed a deal with Scripps that not only kept ABC on their Detroit and Cleveland stations, but switched other Scripps stations to ABC, including Baltimore, where ABC had always been on a station owned by Westinghouse. Westinghouse then went looking for a station group deal of its own, and found one with CBS, eventually buying the network outright. WCAU was owned by CBS, but KYW was Westinghouse, so when the deal was made, WCAU was sold to NBC. The deal was a win-win: CBS got legacy stations in a bunch of cities that they own outright, preventing another network from stealing them away, and NBC got not only an O&O but a better station in Philly, as KYW was a poor NBC affiliate even when NBC completely dominated the ratings.

I dislike all of the NBC 10 (post 1995 switchover from CBS). The old CBS era, particularly the openings with old WBBM Chicago theme, had the right tone for the news broadcast, especially with Larry Kane at the anchor position. And that's the way it is....

Christopher Howell MikeChuk21 It was September 10, 1995. The switch was delayed since NBC could not purchase WCAU from CBS without incurring heavy taxes. Therefore, both sides arranged a "fair" deal where NBC would give Group W/CBS its stations in Denver (KCNC) and Salt Lake City (KUTV) and WTVJ's stronger channel 4 transmitter (and license) in Miami in exchange for WCAU and WCIX's (now WFOR) weaker channel 6 transmitter (and license).
