I was there for this. I was 15 or so and didn’t understand why so many guys came out to wrestle more than once. But I get it now, they were taping multiple episodes. But it was great. I’m glad I finally get to see it again.
When I first saw this when I was 11, I instantly fell in love with this bc I grew up with Lucha Libre AAA before WWE and seeing this on the WWE Network was truly something to behold and hopefully, they do something like this again!
i had the same path as a fan! used to watch lucha libre with my dad as a younger kid and a couple years later i found wcw and wwf on my own when i got tired of cartoons.
It's a shame this show got pulled from WWE Network after the Peacock deal because I was never able to see this in full, but now I can, thanks to this upload! Also this show does make me wonder, are there any more full WCW shows out there that were filmed for TV but never saw the light of day? I know the last Worldwide from 2001 was a big piece of lost footage until somebody uploaded it in full last year, but I can't think of any other WCW shows that have been lost to time.
In the VHS Era, commercial tapes were only 2 hours long and since WCW PPVs were nearly three hours long, they’d cut out the first hour of the PPV. These were mostly opening card matches and lower tier wrestlers but because their matches were cut off the VHS, they didn’t get the royalties from the tape sales, while the upper card guys still did. The best part was that they actually trimmed the master tapes, so those matches are pretty much gone forever, unless someone taped them off the vcr and then converted them and uploaded them. So even when WWE bought the tape library from WCW, their PPVs, especially the early ones, are incomplete.
Without commentary I have no idea why Jericho, Chavo, Norman Smiley, Lenny Lane, Fit Finlay and others Attacked Rey, Konnan and Garza. But I love the production design of the Entrance stage.
That's because it was a pilot produced for Telemundo, and they didn't buy it. So it never aired anywhere and just sort of sat in the tape archives until WWE put it up on the WWE Network a few years ago.
@@Dopesickgypsy No doubt there's plenty of interesting stuff. Another WCW one they put out was Sting: The Lost Tape which was a behind the scenes thing from back before Crow Sting was a thing.
The WCW tape library was gold. It alone was worth the price WWE paid for the assets. I worked on this show in the early stages until the deal with Telemundo fell apart and I went on the road with Nitro and Thunder. There was hours of these matches. Enough for the pilot and several episodes.
I had no idea this existed either?? Is this on the Network? Or did you include that intro from the Network? I can't find it on there. It's definitely a WCW ring, and crowd sound effects added in. Juvi looks like 1988.
This was done in January 1999, pitched to Telemundo (I think?) by WCW, as a competitor to WWF's Super Astro show. For whatever reason, it never got picked up and this one show is all that came of it It was released a few years back on the WWE Network under their "Hidden Gems" category, but when the Network moved to Peacock, Festival de Lucha didn't follow
It's mentioned in a short section: "In the Wasteful Spending Department, the WCW Latino show was canceled, a show that most fans had zero clue even existed. It was a program the company had in development to air on the Spanish-language Telemundo station. It would feature many of EMLL (Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre)’s top wrestling stars. Bischoff spent $300,000 to create a fancy new set and began negotiations for wrestlers with EMLL promoter Paco Alonso. Shortly before the first taping, Alonso signed a deal with the WWF (which, coincidentally, was for a Super Astros lucha libre show that also ended up going bust) and pulled out all of his talent. The first taping was a disaster, so Bischoff scrapped the entire project. Telemundo was furious and threatened a lawsuit. To avoid any bad press, Turner came up with an idea: they’d air hour-long edited editions of Nitro with Spanish voice-overs for the sixteen weeks they’d promised programming. This would have been a fantastic plan if not for the fact that all the Mexican guys on Nitro worked their asses off week after week, and ultimately lost to the white guys week after week. In fact, even when the show was later renewed, showing that the Hispanic population had an interest in WCW programming, the burial of top lucha stars continued."
Man I have tried but Lucia is crazy. Haha. Still will check it out every time. But. It’s different. From Tbs superstation Usa. And espn Thanks for sharing
WWF had Super Astros (cruiserweight wrestlers from Mexico and Puerto rico)event in a spanish speaking broadcast channel (Univision).WCW did the same to gain Latinamericans viewers and taped in Telemundo channel
@@buchitojr635 oh Super Astros! I remember that show. they featured a guy called El Super Merenguero who used to be a part of Los Boricuas (Castillo I think) and he had a pretty sweet finisher called SuperMerengueplex.
It was actually an attempt by WCW to try and win over more of the sizeable latin demographic that was already interested in AAA/CMLL etc. WWF tried the exact same thing with their Super Astros show which was released around the same time.
Bruh Konnan in the main event… not only that but vs Disco Inferno??? I get AEW ain’t great, but I don’t think they would ever give us that level of a garbage main event matchup. Reason I bring them up is because people say AEW is wcw levels bad
What you are trying to say is chain wrestling and this is not that. This is what is referred to as lucha libre, mexican style pro wrestling. An example of chain wrestling would be the way zack sabre jr or to some degree brian danielson wrestles.
I mean great as this thing is, you can tell the company was going to die within a few years. The production quality is atrocious, nobody visibly gives a shit, and the matches are just... Awful to say the least.
