I just received one yesterday and got concerned that it ran overnight and the backup was only 50% complete, but if you only had about 80 GB and that took an hour and a half, then I guess mine is doing what it's supposed to as fast as it can since I have over 500GB to backup for the first time.

Tip: if you guys end up losing your cable for your usb 3.0 external drives, you can temporarily use a microusb cable. I had the old version of this mypassport ultra for 9 years now (bought in 2013 or 14) and now i am buying my first 2TB external because yes, as this dude said, content creators needs lots of storage. lol

WD My Passport drives are great...accidentally knocked mine off my desk earlier today, and though I was scared of damage/data loss, seems to still be working just fine!

Do we really need to install the Discovery for machine software or we can use it as it is?

Helpful info, especially when any sort of decent documentation is non-existent from WD. I installed today and found that I had to click Share Info in the Product Development modal to actually get to the install part. If you say Do Not Share you'll get an error (you can later remove the 'Share' setting). Also, I found the difference between copying over files vs. backing them up confusing until downloading the WD Backup App when then lets you set up a backup plan.

Hey Josiah.....great video and I purchased the Passport however I thought it would open up like my C drive to I can manually move folders to it. I did back up my drive because I want to factory reset my Surface Pro 3. However before I reset the computer is there a way for me to see the individual files on my Passport that were backed up? I need help lol.....thanks.

This is a very useful video but I am still a super-confused newb. So I guess you can drag and drop folders; what folder do I need to drag and drop and will WD BackUp refresh the same locatoin?

I deleted the two softwares while formatting to exfat. Were they required to be kept safe ?

@Josiah's place I just bought the WD 5TB always got stuck on 18% installation kept retrying till it finally worked now it won't install the security or backup says failed each time, any suggestions?

I noticed when you did your backup, there was an exclamation in red at the last backup. I get that too. Do you know why it isn't backing up certain files? Like I said, mine is showing an error too.

what does backing the data up to the hardrive itself do? if the hardrive crashes or something u cant retrive the backup because its on the hardrive

Question: When backing up your computer does that include all apps and can the apps be installed on another computer? Thanks in advance.

is it a flash drive or a true SSD/platter disk? how does it differ? can it be opened and the disk removed to be put internally? reason being, 2TB is for $50 is very very cheap...

I just wrote a few lines of batch with xcopy added the batch file in in task schedule and have a backup without any additional Software. Also already existing files are Skipper for my Media libary and for my server files if the file is newer than the file on my backup drive the file on this drive will be overwritten.

Thus vid was one of the best on this ,.

I bought a 2nd hand WD My Passport Mac. Then I format it in Win10 NTFS. Then install the WD security software just as you mentioned (I have done it before many times too). But the problem is, when I connect this My Passport, it opened an window, where it says, to open the WD software to unlock this drive. It does not give me the option directly to enter password. Then when I open the WD Security software from the program menu, then it give me the option to enter password and then I can unlock the device. WHY? How can I resolve this issue?

HiJosiah, great video. . I just purchased the 4TB version for Mac, but under the apps tab there is no option for backup-only WD drive utilities and WD security. I want to back up my entire hard drive and can't figure out how to do that. Any suggestions? This was the reason I bought the drive.

Just installed it but is NOT backing up on my Windows 10! What the heck??? I followed your instructions, started the backup and within one minute the backup said "DONE", Huh??? NOTHING was backed up! I tried it going through the Win 10 Backup app and nothing backed up there either! It seems to just stall and not backup anything! What do I need to do to fix this????

I got my mine and immediately used it on my ps4 and formatted it. I could download games on it on ps4 but tried it on my pc for the first time now but nothing appears just the little disconnect icon on bottom right. And now it can't store my games too rip $150

If you lock the drive, can you still get at the installation software that comes on the drive. Take the case where the laptop dies and you get a new laptop. How do you then unlock the drive.
