That's true of most heard herbivores like deer and bison, as well as pack carnivores like wolves. Bears are mostly solitary, and so they judge other animals on a more individual basis.

Hmmm interesting. There is a thing called “Carrying Capacity”. Wildlife managers base hunting quotas on that principle. It is the ability of a specific wild area to support the various wild creatures with enough food and water to help them survive. Wildlife Biologists and Managers preform a annual census and the results of the data helps to create hunting seasons. The idea is to keep animal populations just below the carrying capacity so that when the babies are born to the various creatures there is food and water for all. That is where hunters enter the picture. The job of the hunter is to remove these excess animals that they have a license to take. It may be elk, deer, bears, geese, whatever. If the carrying.capacity is already at its optimal level than the hunt is canceled and closed. Does the Hunter get reimbursed for not being able to hunt in that zone? No. Huntsman know that closures happen and they know that they are part of the Wildlife Management equation. I have personally had this happen a few times and so I go fishing instead. If someone chooses not to hunt, this is a personal choice to remove oneself from the management of our wild America. Hopefully, when a former huntsman does this, there is someone to take that persons place… for the sake of our critters.

These bears are young. The fellow that has become its provider is not helping them, he has delayed their deaths. The moment he found them he should have called the Fish and Game Wardens. They would have taken care of the bears. Meanwhile this feckless man gets his jollies by “believing” he is helping them. Wild creature are always wild. As they grow up they will probably become uncontrollable. If he survives an attack the Wildlife officers will shoot the now adult bears. Until that moment, this delusional man will continue to feel he is Tarzan-esk.

This doesn't have to do with simply being "Well fed and well treated." It depends entirely on how wild vs how domesticated an animal is. You can't take a full grown, wild animal, feed it and treat it well, and then let it in your house and treat it like a puppy dog. You have to take the animal as a very young cub, before it has grown too wild. Then domesticate it. And yes, you should always treat animals well, but that won't necessarily turn them into pussy cats and puppy dogs.

The danger will always exist - you have to prepare them for it. Saying 'I refuse to teach these animals to fear humans, because the hunters should not be hunting in the first place' is like saying "I refuse to reach my children to avoid strangers, because pedos should not be kidnapping them in the first place"

I worry about that too. I live alone but my Catahoula is very smart.He can open the front door . LOL ...I wish he would learn to close it. I have pools of water where the Koi are .And plenty of dry kibbles....in case I die and people don't show up for awhile. I saw in an article that in , a worldwide Holocaust....after humans all died....house pets would die next because they can't escape to the outside and find food and water....once their indoor source ran out.....which would be a few days. So , I've made sure my dog can get the door open.

@lynn craig , it's wonderful that you think ahead for the welfare of your animals, I wish more people would do so. It's great that your dog can open doors! :) Pretty sure that if there ever is a worldwide event which kills all humans, other animals would not be immune to the toxicity of a holocaust. Like you, though, I do think everyone with animals who depend upon them ought to plan for their long-term care in case something happens. Too many animal companions are left homeless after their person passes.

Big Difference. The bears here are raised from cubs by him. As far as they are concerned he is their mother. Completely different situation. Treadwell thought he could live with wild bears in the wild. And he did for 12 years without incident. Every summer. But then he fk'd up in the 13th year. Got too confident. Made many mistakes. One is that he NEVER carried bear spray or a firearm for protection. His over confidence was his undoing.
