We’re spending our last day in the town of Banff with a horseback ride along the Bow River! After trying All-Dressed Chips for the first time, we drive our van out of Banff for the last time. Now we take the Icefields Parkway north towards Yoho National Park and Jasper National Park, stopping by Kicking Horse Campground, Takakkaw Falls, and finally hiking Wilcox Pass for a view of the Athabasca Glacier! 🏔

The grey water is from rivers that are glacier fed, the grey is called glacial flour and it rocks that the glacier grinds up super fine, the turquoise is snowmelt and spring fed rivers. when you keep coming west it just keeps getting better and better!

That's interesting. In Nova Scotia Canada those chairs are called Adirondack chairs. We are a huge country with each area using different terms. That's half the fun! 😊
@robertpearson8798
@robertpearson8798 Год назад
@@privatename8228 I just did some research and I might be wrong here. They look very much the same but Muskoka chairs are about 2 inches taller than Adirondacks and they have a curved back while Adirondacks have flat backs and the arms are about 2 inches further apart. Muskoka is a “cottage country” district a couple of hours north of Toronto.

I was born and raised in Prince George, BC. That is a four hour drive west of Jasper. I have driven the Banff - Jasper Highway several time, BUT NEVER (sadly) took the time to explore as you did. I tell anyone who will listen, that drive is the prettiest driver anywhere. The images you are providing are breathtaking and amazing and definitely prove my assertion. I hope you are enjoying your time in Canada and welcome. There is one sad fact about the glacier you visited (if I am correct as to which one it is). When I was in Grade 11 or 12 (1975 or 1976), the geography classes took a 3 day field trip to Jasper and we visited those glaciers. At that time the glacier was were nearly at the highway and we could easily walk to it. In the mid 1990s I took a vacation with my wife and two young daughters and was despondent to see how far back the glacier had retreated. But we could still easily walk to it. A friend of mine just visited the glacier and said the distance from the highway to the glacier is now almost a kilometer and you pretty much have to take one of the ice field vehicles to get to it. So sad what climate change is doing. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

The term "All Dressed" began with pizzas, if you ordered a pizza all dressed, it meant with everything. All dressed chips have a combination of chip flavours - usually BBQ, Salt & Vinegar, Ketchup, and sour cream & onion. One maker, Covered Bridge has a unique twist with their Storm Chip flavour where the package the various flavoured chips in a single package (not a combined spice mix)

I live in Alberta and I've driven the parkway dozens of times. I only got stuck buying gas at Saskatchewan Crossing once, and learned my lesson. Fill up in lake Louise, fill up in Jasper; I avoid the crossing at all costs. I've done that Wilcox Creek hike a few times. The first time I did it in 1981 we had it to ourselves. The last time I did it was last year, and it's getting pretty crowded now, although not as crowded as Lake Louise, which may well be the busiest tourist spot in Canada. Last year my wife and I drove from the west coast of Vancouver Island to Nova Scotia, and back to Alberta. I don't think I'll do that again, but I'm glad we did it!

Natalie, you should try riding a mule sometime. They do have some advantages over horses. They don't spook as easily as a horse, will generally stay with you in the face of danger, are more sure-footed, better at repetitive tasks, and easier to take care of, but they can be stubborn and ornery. As usual, I really enjoyed the video.

Watching Natalie do that crossing of the rock brought me back to a time in my teens where we had been in the backcountry for weeks and were coming out but got totally lost and had been hiking for about 15 miles by the time we came to a huge boulder (van size) field that the only way we could get from one to the other was to lean out like that and then try and step to next one. We had 50+ lbs packs on and this was late in the evening and were exhausted. After doing that about 30 times, I was not holding my weight very well and would face plant onto the rock. Oy, what a day. Once we got out of that field, we finally hit the trail we wanted but was still 8 miles to where we had a ride to pick us up. Needless to say, the ride was no longer there when we walked in around 1am. They did come back the next day and got us though. Thanks for bringing me back to that time. 🤣

Hi J&N: Albertan here really enjoying your videos. A tip relating to your hose, I would probably hold off buying one in Jasper as you will pay "summer tourist pricing" for pretty much everything there. If you can hold off until you are in a place that has a Canadian Tire, go there for anything you need for the van (hoses, camping gear, solar lighting, etc). It will be less expensive and you'll have more selection. There is no CT in Jasper (yet!) but there is one in Hinton, about an hour north of Jasper past the Miette Hot Springs.

I know exactly what you're doing in the next video, and it is indeed quite cool. I did that myself once, back in the '90s. Incidentally, the mountain from whence that glacier emanates (Mount Snow Dome) forms a rare triple-Continental Divide/hydrological apex, wherein at a certain point up high, if you pour water in exactly the right place, some will go east, eventually ending up traveling through Manitoba and Hudson Bay (considered part of the Atlantic Ocean), some will go west, into BC and the Pacific Ocean, and some will go north, directly to the Arctic Ocean. This may be the only location on Earth where such a watershed exists (i.e. one that feeds 3 of the 4 or 5* named oceans...obviously, the criteria being met to be an "ocean" is arbitrary - every ocean is connected to at least 2 others, so really, there is only ONE ocean, but historical happenstance has left us with some distinct delineations). Montanans also claim such a watershed, but two of the three hydrological destinations involved are Hudson Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, which are technically both parts of the Atlantic. *Some geograpeeps (including notable entities like the National Geographic Society) are calling the extreme southern part of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans the "Southern Ocean" nowadays...not sure what I think of that, but given the haphazard way oceans have been defined in the past, it's likely no less legitimate than any of the others. And incidentally, given this recent development of a 5th ocean, another such hydrological apex in Antarctica, a place that at one time drained to the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, now just drains to the Southern ocean...so it doesn't count anymore I guess!
