This is probably a good thing. Too few animes are actually thought provoking or can even invoke complex emotions. I've noticed that most anime on the market is heavily otaku oriented, maybe webtoons/ manhwas can change that but i'm not holding my breath.

In terms of thought provoking, Anime isn’t the only one that is victim to the masses, but heavily Otaku oriented? Yes. I think so as well. Again the market will dictate what works and what doesn’t, but If this medium is to grow, unfortunately it’s going to hurt some of the people that found a home in “otaku” culture. I think Otaku culture is starting to expand and taking a new form as more people are getting into anime tbh. And it’s great!

Wait...? the amount of episodes is what bothered you? There were a FUCK ton of things that bothered me about these adaptations, but splitting them into seasons was not one of them.
