@Cruise, these look so killer. I was just in SF and totally would have loved the opportunity to ride in one if I'd known about it...if you want to fly me to SF, I'm totally there ;)
A suggestion for Cruise: Put out videos with very difficult scenarios (like unprotected lefts in heavy 55mph traffic) and it will shut down Tesla fanboys who think your system only does well because of map data.
But they put out short pr video instead. Draw your own conclusions. Besides, are you pro autonomous driving or anti Tesla? I mean, let's suppose for a moment that Tesla is more capable than Cruise, would you feel upset? I bet you would. Odd it is.
Two months ago they posted a few videos of 1+ hour driving all over SF. They're still there on this same channel. It's pretty cool to watch the future develop.
@@oreneya Ah yes, assume the person who calls out fanboys is anti Tesla. I watch Chuck Cook to know how well FSD Beta is doing. I am pro autonomy no matter who gets there first. And Cruise is doing an amazing job at handling pedestrians and other cars. Yes, they are locked to one city, but Tesla could learn so much from them. FYI I am long in Tesla, but I seek honesty in all things.
@@Jorge-gk4xu Unfortunately Tesla shills can't be bothered to search such a long video for unprotected lefts. They must devote a 5 minute video to this. Then all you need to do as a third party is make a compilation of Tesla FSD turns where it starts turning into an oncoming car. Then people can directly compare it to Cruise.
@@oreneya Tesla only puts out short PR videos on their channel. Draw your own conclusions. See how foolish your statement looks now? Btw, did you know that during filming of that autopilot video they had to take over multiple times? Does it matter to you that they hid the truth in that video in favor of marketing hype?
Congrats on your progress Cruise! To all you Tesla fans: coming to other autonomous vehicle companies' channels and saying Tesla would beat them will just make you look insecure about Tesla's future.
They should be, Tesla decided to ignore permit requirements for FSD. It should probably be shut down and a heavy fine issued. That may still happen, but Tesla claims they are just a level 2 system not really autonomous, although Musk and the investors don't seem to think so.
It’s the first time in a very long time that I have been frightened and excited. It was actually frightening me to see a car driving itself because I immediately thought of so many hazardous Scenarios. As I continue to watch the video, it was exciting to see the future for so many elderly and disabled, and what it could do for them. I probably won’t be here to see it having been disabled for so many years and now as I am going into my, for lack of another word, Twilight years, I am glad to see there is an option to riding with people who don’t show up on time, then lie and blame it on the patron, drivers who are on drugs and/or alcohol, drinking erratically, speeders, who weave in and out of traffic in a haphazard manner, and those are just a few of the things that I have had to endure over the years. I won’t even get into the problems with. Family, who were paid substantially, but yet either couldn’t find time or felt put a pun to transport me, although they had no other means of income. I just see so many positive things coming out of this on the other hand. I’m sorry, but I see so many things. to be cautious about because of the people out there that I mentioned before, and the fact that they took driver’s ed out of the schools which should never have been done and people out there are just driving so irresponsibly they are going to cause a problem for a cruise.
OMFG!!!!! I saw one of these cars the other night with no driver, I won't lie it was creepy at first because I'm standing there watching this driverless car drive around like a regular car with a real driver. but then after watching it for a little while it felt and looked normal to me, so I'm ready to see a lot more of theses driverless cars on the streets of SF.
@@ADF-Fact-Checking All of us are just asking what's all this fuss about when other companies already presented driving on empty streets years ago? I don't know anyone who doubted that Cruise can produce product that can drive on a few hardcoded routes at night time. If that's not the case, put that in the video.
I can't wait until Cruz comes to seattle. That's right I cannot wait until it comes to seattle. You put me in one of those things and that's it. But I don't know if that app is going to be available here in Seattle or not cuz the last time I checked it wasn't even available here yet!
Here in Houston, the 4th largest city in The U.S., you have to have a referral code. So apparently Cruise thinks it's ok for a small, rich, entitled group of everyone who knows each other gets to ride first. This makes me angry. Why are the other people never first? Just goes to show companies like this will only always choose the rich and entitled first. They don't care about the rest of us. They just want our money, but they'll cater to the snobs. No thank you!
It’s a technical feat but what purpose does a driverless car serve when you have drivers available in abundance and technology to replace them is so expensive? Why not have car technology that augments a driver rather replace him? What happened to Tesla auto pilot? Thomas Edison had said he’d never invent anything that public doesn’t need. Hope he is proven wrong in this case. Good luck.
@wettheini not really. If well planned, then there won't be many cars waiting, they will go to their next pick-up. Also they prepared to put a simple storage compartment into the mid part of the Origin, so some of the cars will work as person carrier during peak hours and as a delivery van during off-peak. An average car parks 23 hours a day, and works one, these will work over 8, so the parking necessary will be 1/8, 1/10 of the current amount, but for shopping centers it will be nearly zero. One will take you there, ant picks up another customer, and you will leave the center with another car later.
What difference does a mechanical digger make when there are men with shovels in abundance and ready to work? In Edison's time, the world could have continued on without the lightbulb. That doesn't mean there's no NEED for it. The world could continue on without driverless cars, but there is still a need.
Is this only for younger people? 'Cuz I didn't see anyone who looked over 40 much less 60. Marketing people who are in their 20's and 30's are so age-centric and so boring. The car looks pretty cool though.
@@Roadsurfer2k11 I'm going to start my own company and only hire people with 30 years of experience. I love watching millennials hit 40. Watching them hit 50 is going to be even more fun.
Oh come on.... I am not a Tesla fan, or any other company. Where are the real life driving videos? Like, San Francisco peak hour with multiple bicyclists, jumping pedestrians, and angry drivers? I don't have problems driving at night when the streets are empty.
I bet all of the positive comments are from people UNDER 30! No way am I getting into a driverless car. I'm not convinced it can react to the BAD real drivers on the road. That's the real test. It only passed the first NAVIGATION test.
It's "working" as in, is it geo-fenced and shooting out lasers? Let me paraphrase: I cheated by knowing the answers and the questions before taking a test; as in, I rely on Google Map being up-to-date accurate, limit myself to only SF bay area, and I don't recognize the road signs.
You can't "map" human drivers and pedestrians. The fact they can handle them without overreacting like Tesla does shows that while this is locked to one city, they have trained their system far better than Tesla has with regards to human interaction.
@@darthclide Tesla's full self-driving cars will never be geofenced. FSD will be safer than human drivers very soon and will be able to go anywhere. It improves every day. It's still like a 16 year old learning, but just wait a few more months!
@@VeganOccasions I have watched countless Tesla FSD videos since 2015. No, they are not going to hit level 4 or 5 autonomy soon. Pro tip: Once Chuck Cook says that they are close to level 4 or 5 autonomy, then you can believe it. Until then, ignore FSD hype influencers and Elon's claims.
@@viljokanniainen3090 They have been calling it different names, and have attempted to add features since 2015. But it doesn't matter what you or Tesla wants to call it. What matters is that there are problems they have had since 2015 and show no signs of going away. Top of the list? Delayed acceleration and braking for event windows that are 200-500ms long. Phantom braking has also existed since 2015. So tell me, why should I believe the marketing hype when I can A. Look at the history of their FSD program for the truth and B. Watch current updates from Chuck Cook (one of the few honest testers out there)
So they trained their AI to understand navigation in a small area, not a big deal. This vehicle would not be able to drive safely outside of this small area where it has been trained. Lack of data to train their AI is a BIG problem. Every Tesla on the road is collecting data, so their AI is magnitudes better and essentially unbeatable at this point. Tesla already has a monopoly on well trained self-driving AI, catching up is essentially impossible now.
There is no shortage of data for self driving, if that is your argument. Everyone does tests everywhere, no one said that San Francisco is universally applicable. Frankly, saying FSD is anywhere near Waymo or Cruise, let alone better, is so ridiculous I dont know where to begin.
Tesla could have done this with geo fencing. A real self driving is a car without geo fencing makes decisions on the fly. Tesla goal is to be 99.999999% safe.
@@mathijs9365 No shot. They only have shitty generations old cameras and compute. Even though they act like they do not use HD maps, there are strong reasons to believe that in some scenarios they do, and that those maps have an important influence over the driving. 99.999999% safe is an absurd figure when it tries to swerve into pedestrians about once every 5 minutes or so.
Do you know that you need to acquire a permit from the state government to even start testing? Do you know how long it takes to get a permit to operate? Do you understand the difference between Lv 2 and Lv4/5 autonomous driving?
@@j808 Don't argue this with me, tell that to regulator because you need their approvals to start the business. Also I believe that there are clear definitions of each level of autonomous driving. Let me know how the voice of customer can change that.
