We Accidentally Made Something Confusingly Good! This video started out about trying a new method of making turtle pops...And then it somehow morphed into seeing how green Skittles would be chocolate covered 😂 it was actually alot better than anticipated!

💑 About Hercules Candy
Hercules Candy has been on Steve’s side of the family since 1910(ish). When he took over in the 70’s, he anticipated after 10 years of hard work, he could move the business out of the basement and into a real storefront. Unfortunately, it took until 2018 for that to happen, but hey at least it happened! Steve and Terry own the shop, Craig (the social media manager) is their son, Cara (wrapper and shipper extraordinaire who is poised to take over the shop one day) is their daughter and Leah (who doesn’t love being on camera and is very elusive) is their oldest daughter. Karen has been working for Hercules Candy since the twins (Craig and Cara) were about 6 months old and everybody else is a new recruit. Don’t forget to subscribe and hit the 🔔 for more videos!

Add wax paper on both leaves of the press. It should be easier to take off. Wax paper or plactic.

I am so happy skittles went back to lime green instead of green apple. They were lime a long time ago, then switched to green apple for years but recently went back to lime here in Canada. I don't mind green apple. It was just everywhere. Lime became rare for fruity candy.

He was kind of a know-it-all, though. He told Steve what to do! He had to be right all the time. Greg used to get irritated with him 😅. I wonder why he left so quickly after learning the ropes at Hercules.

If you don't already, y'all should lightly toast the pecans (Be careful! They burn very quickly!) before coating ANYTHING with them. It will enhance the flavor of the pecans and will add a wonderful extra layer of flavor. Southerner born and bred speaking...have harvested, shelled and cooked with LOTS of pecans!

@CS-bn4un 🎯 100% Dad's side of family from Mississippi going back over 200 years. We lived in another state. Decades ago my uncles would ship huge boxes of pecans to us. Some would stay out in the nutbowl to snack on. The rest would go into the freezer for later. Those pecans were always sweet & tasty. Yummo!

If you need the candy pressed thinner, try rolling it through an adjustable pasta machine.

I'd be worried that the caramel would stick to the rollers. I dunno if you want to spend all that money on a pasta machine just to ruin it. Even second-hand pasta machines are expensive. Although the rollers are stainless steel so I doubt that this would actually be the case.

This is a great idea! Use parchment paper with the caramel inside, so it wouldn't stick.

i use some powered sugar or corn starch lightly coating the caramel. it helps going through the rollers.

I think you should try melting the caramel, pour it onto the cooling table and spread it out really thin. Then after it is cooled cut it with Steve's bark cutter into square and wrap the marshmallows with the squares. Works great that way on my marble countertops.

Cutting the Caramel the width of the marshmallows, and then using a small round cookie cutter to cut the bottoms and the top. It doesn't matter if there's a gap. Because you're gonna put chocolate over it and nuts. Thank way you can make a bunch of caramel parts all at once or have someone cutting and someone assembling. The marshmallows wouldn't be as bulky or have more caramel on than the necessary.

Sorry I think I got confused, what would the round cookie cutter be cutting!? But I agree, there’s so much that less caramel will be fine, and if it becomes more time efficient maybe that means prices will stay the same for a lot longer.

@kristin_cool6537 if you cut the caramel to the width of the marshmallows and wrap it around, the top and bottom would be blank , so you use the round cookie cutter to make a disk for top and bottom instead of using the caramel to stretch around. It would make it cleaner looking and it maybe not use as much caramel. Caramel is definitely hard to work with when cold so rolling it out and making cleaner cuts would speed things up. Time is money. I hope that helped make since. After the first time I saw you all make these I tried it and it worked for me. I run a home bakery and make these as well now.

You may want to consider getting measured portions of the caramel and rolling it out with a rolling pin that has a guide for thickness. You'd do this in between sheets of parchment and maybe have lines drawn in it for the correct sized rectangular strips (as opposed to the circular tortilla press ones). After that, you just get the bench scraper to cut and release the strips for the marshmallows.

Hello guys I just wondered if making the Caramel into a strip then wrapping and pinching it into place would be easier and faster. you could make the strip on the candy crank using the flat cylinders so you get uniform thickness.

To keep the nuts from coming off the pop when you bag them..take a disposable plastic cup cut the bottom off then slip the bag over it. Use like a funnel

Possible New Candy Names: Leprechaun Droppings Rainbow Chunks/Clusters Encase the Rainbow Schottles (skottles) I know it would be a little time consuming, but doing each flavor separately before combining the batches would make for a fun surprise

I used to buy sheets of caramel to wrap around apples for caramelappels they were sandwiched between parchment paper, and it works perfectly! IMO, you should definitely do it this way. First start with one piece of caramel and work your way up to multiple pieces.

Yep, parchment paper, carmel probably won't stick as much. Even if you are making tortillas, you out the dough between plastic.

When using a tortilla press, whether for dough or caramel, everyone uses a freezer bag cut open as an insert, no suction issues and you just peel off the plastic. I see you eventually got some parchment paper. :) Also, I see everyone wearing long sleeves... perhaps put a bowl in a bowl of warm water and set the caramels in that as you start working? Not to melt, just to warm. And rather than changing the chocolate on the turtle pops, how about changing the nuts? Sprinkles - rainbow or chocolate? Peanuts? How about dark chocolate dipped with white chocolate mini chips? Or white chocolate with dark chocolate mini chips.

I recommend a rolling pin to roll out the caramel. Maybe have a small heater there to keep the surface a bit warmer so the caramel rolls nice. Then cut into the size of strips you need with a pizza cutter so you can roll the strips around the marshmallows.

Solution for turtle pops: Cut marshmallows in half, put a thin strip of Carmel between them, poke with stick, dip in chocolate, cover with nuts

if you want to use the tortilla press and not have it stick, use 2 layers of grease proof paper or silicone baking sheet, then its not sticking to the press and you just have to peal it off the sheet after. using silicone baking sheets will make the press get it that little bit thinner too so you might not have to make it thinner then

You should try using a pasta press where you can start at a higher thickness then get thinner and have sheets of caramel that you could cut into squares the needed size. Use powdered sugar to make sure it doesn't stick similar to how you would use flour to make sure pasta doesn't stick to the rollers

The skittles chocolate sounds so good! Yum!!! It reminds me of the marvelous creations chocolate Cadbury does - Milk chocolate with jelly beans, M&Ms and popping candy! It's a brilliant combo! Candy inside chocolate is super popular around Australasia! You can also get skittles without the shells! Those are delish!!!

Maybe a smaller industrial table dough rolling mashine could make some decent even square sheets, that could be cut into fitted sizes for the marshmellow. As long as it stays somewhat cool it should not stick to the roller.

I'm Mexican and I can confirm this, you need plastic sheets between the tortilla dough when pressing, if not the dough will still like the caramel. And maybe heating it up a litlle with a heat gun just before pressing would help too.

Yes!!! Turtle pops in dark chocolate please!! I would definitely purchase them. Also, I love the color of Terry's Hercules sweatshirt in this video - the blue is great!! The blue sweatshirt is one of a kind. When I ordered the maroon sweatshirts I was allowed to order other colors as long as the ink color was the same. Unfortunately we don’t have the space to stock another color in all the sizes we would need.

So, the blind stuff-covered-in-chocolate thing now needs to be done with a chocolate -covered ice cube. Getting a gush of water when you bite into chocolate would be so confusing.

The "MOUNTAIN BERRY" Skittles are my FAVE!!😋🥰 They make resealable bags of all the different shades of red and pink STARBURSTS, and I always remove all of the lightest shade Watermelon flavor to trash.

Chocolate and citrus work surprisingly well (Terry's Chocolate Orange), so it wouldn't surprise me at all if the lime worked. The only problem is that the green Skittles don't really taste that much like lime. I don't have a favorite Skittle or Starburst, they're all good to me. Cherry Starburst in dark chocolate = Cherry Garcia without the ice cream? Strawberry anything in chocolate = _Homer gorging noises_

You could use a rolling pin after the press to get the caramel thinner. I use a rolling pin and place caramel between parchment papers to roll them thin.

There are fruit flavored jumbo marshmallows that I'd love to try covered in chocolate. in dark, white, or whatever's the best. 😍They don't need nuts on the outside, it could just be sprinkles. 🌈

Cut open a freezer ziplock bag and put whatever inside and then flatten. Makes it way easier to flatten and remove and cleaner!!!

Y’all need a larger food processor. I am sure that you would be able to get one somewhere and that it might be worthwhile to buy maybe 2 of them with 2 extra canisters and parts and with the biggest one so that you can actually chop of crush up larger amounts especially for the holidays when you’re needing tons of nuts, peppermint pieces and other toppers.

just a suggestion but wouldn't it be faster to use the enrober on the caramel covered marshmallows, then stick the stick in and roll in pecans? Make it an assembly line, might require two sets of hands. Just a thought. I'm sure you guys thought of that and have a reason for not doing it. Love the channel and the candy. Cannot wait til the winter to order more.

I don't know much about handling caramel, but would it possible to warm it just a bit so it's pliable, but not turning to a liquid, then roll it out with a rolling pin between two layers of waxed paper. Essentially handle it the way you would pie dough. Then you could cut it to size with a sharp knife and shape it around the marshmallow afterwards

Pink Starburst and Green Skittles (Lime or apple). They changes the flavor of Green and recently changed it back. It was lime in my childhood, then became apple, now its lime again. I love you for changing your gloves after picking something up off the floor. Call the Skittle clusters Unicorn Poop!

My grandmother used the tortilla press she cut the plastic from the bread bags in two circles to keep them from sticking. Wax paper might work too.

ah this reminds me of a product made in the late 80s or early 90s by Kraft Caramels called Wrappables, they were flat circles of caramel you bought in a package at the store and instead of dipping apples, you wrapped them in the caramel.

Wax paper is used with a tortilla press dough in the middle and press some people just use plastic wrap also.

Why not use a pasta maker to roll out the caramel? You can run it through a couple of times to warm it up and thin it out. Then you can cut them in ribbons for wrapping.

I also love skittles and hate the green ones! They used to be good when they were lime, but now they’re green apple flavored they’re gross. Glad to see I’m not alone! The best one is orange for sure
