It had an organic reason.. she suffered a brain injury and she lost her entire memory I think at 18 or so.. the dementia was attached to this injury years later. My favorite thing about Julie Stain was the quote, “very tall but worth the climb..”

I recall one of her later interviews where she expressed a lot of sadness about not being able to remember conventions and spending time with fans. Julie seemed to enjoy that even more than being in all those B movies.

The director, Adam Rifkin (as Rif Coogan) is a legit Hollywood legend. He wrote the family-friendly films, Mousehunt (1997) and Small Soldiers (1998). He wrote and directed a lot of other awesome stuff, including The Chase (1994) with Charlie Sheen and Homo Erectus (2007) with David Carradine and Gary Busey. The man directed David Carradine and Gary Busey in the same movie. That's got to make him SBIG royalty. You must get him on the show or podcast, right? The stories he must have...

This was a personal favorite of mine as a 12 year old watching Cinemax at 11pm on a Saturday!! It is pure graphic violence and t and a! It's the greatest! Cinemax use to only air unrated versions of films back in the 90's. Good times!

LMAO, my parents didn't have Cinemax in the 90s, but I'd discovered that if you set the cable box to HBO and then changed the channel on the TV it would let you watch Cinemax for some reason. My mom could never figure out why I always feel asleep in church the next morning, LOL.

I would not say it was pretentious but, to my mind, it took itself way too seriously for what it was (essentially, a rip-off of an already not that great movie). The sequel, at least, had the sincerity to go completely off the rails and utilized the atrocious acting of the Psycho Cop guy much better.

Looked at the anthology of both Maniac cop (MC) vs Psycho cop just to see which series led the other. Each release of Psycho cop always followed MC (which had actors ranging from Bruce Campbell, Richard Roundtree, Robert Davi). Psycho Cop essentially had the late great Julie Strain who puts on the best performance of the whole cast.

Yes, Kevin Eastman married Julie Strain, he'd sold off his rights to TMNT by then but was running Heavy Metal magazine and the movie Heavy Metal 2000 is basically an animated vanity project where the main character is a warrior chick based and voiced by Julie Strain and her nerdy love interest is based on Kevin Eastman (though not voiced by him thankfully).

Great episode! My first exposure to Julie Strain was in an animated movie starring her, Billy Idol, and Micheal Ironside; Heavy Metal 2000. Sequel to the 1981 amazing fantasy-sci-fi epic, Heavy Metal, based off of the magazine. I actually recommend it, if you're looking for cheesy-horny-action in animated form.

Jason, the reason the psycho cop looked familiar is because you've actually seen him on the show before. He was in Future Force, as well as a ton of other movies and TV shows, including The Office as Bob Vance, Wings, The West Wing, and Malcolm in the Middle, to name a few.

Why does the Psycho Cathop dude look so much like Jeremy Clarkson?? I half expected the guy to swap out his 1992 Police Interceptor for a Ferrari Testarrosa... Also, I was initially thinking that I actually had an old penthouse with this chick as the feature, but then realized it was actually the 1994 "25th Anniversary" one with Leigh Anderson. That's a damned shame. That was still in the era where "big hair" was in (in both meanings of the term.)

Julie is fascinating person to read up on. She had severe head injury in her early 20s and had retrograde amnesia, like a soap opera character. The sad thing is that kind of head trauma has severe long term consequences. I have a couple of friends who I played college ball with who are already exhibiting symptoms of dementta in their early 50s. Julie was lost too soon to dementia and is missed.

The cop was buggin me because he looked familiar; I pulled up his IMDB and wow. He has an interesting spread of things he played small roles in. Man's livin my dream job of successful, but not famous actor and I envy him. His IMDB page sounds fun as hell.
