He should address the issue of Ghana giving away its resources - take that recent lithium deal 90/10 contract to that Australian company- the 10% won't benefit Ghanaian citizens. However, 90% would do wonders for the Ghanaian economy and help to build much needed infrastructure.
USD is not pegged against gold. Once upon a time before the 1970s, true, but now USD is pegged against nothing. Better yet, it's pegged against their national debt. Countries like Japan and China has since dumped all or most of their US bonds. They no longer buying US debt. That is why it's absolutely ridiculous that Ghana pegs it's currency against USD.

ghana is africas biggest gold exporter, 4 million ouces exported and thats just the official number, the real figure could be 5 million ounces, just imagine THAT 5 MILLION *2400 an ounce. Thats 13 billion usd flowing out each year, 50 billion £ sterling worth of gold has been smuggled out of ghana in the last 6 years. read 50 billion stolen.

While I understand the concern over galamsey, I find Cheddars comments to be extremely alarming. It unfairly scapegoats the Chinese population for being the source of galamsey ,even though we have been more than complacent, often working alongside, or contracting them to do work for us, as well as showing them gold deposits. Aside from that, what he propses is a gross violation of Human Rights, and suggests that all Chinese, regardless of whether or not they have actually been involved in galamsey or not, whether they are an old man or young girl, will be detained and forced to work, seemingly without pay. If he proposed arresting and trying those involved in galamsey would be different, but the language presented has severely racist undertones. We should take all measures to avoid having these Sinophobic sentiments permeate in Ghana.
