@@suddenimpulse030 I'm nearly certain. Season 4 GOT Mountain, check if thats the same guy because I remember when it originally aired that was the big thing. Season 4 has 2 GOT actors too
@@suddenimpulse030 guess I'm wrong about that. Strange. I clearly remember that being a thing when season 1 aired. Mandela effect type thing. My bad guys. I was wrong apparently lol
Yes, the main cast is mostly kids, but the themes and events are quite heavy and mature. And they did a fantastic job of casting these kids and creating chemistry within them. I truly think you're gonna be so in love with this series.
Technically that isn't correct since both Karen Wheeler's actress as Dr. Brenner's actor are both listed as part of the main cast this season. Which makes it an even split of adults and kids in the main cast; not even counting the two teenage characters Nancy and Jonathan.
Welcome to the Steve-iverse. It's an homage to Stephen King and Steven Spielberg. The 80s nostalgia is strong with this one. Strap in. You're in for it.
Spartan said it's borderline horror but that's the beauty of this show. It IS horror. The 80s was THE era of horror movies and some were more creepy scary or thriller than thrasher horror. Poltergeist, Exorcist, Carrie...I see this in that vein, though it's takes its inspiration from others like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and more.
I think the best thing about this series is that even the supporting characters (like Benny) are SO well written and acted. You often see "bit parts" that are just overlooked and forgotten, but in this series, you will remember SO many side characters and just LOVE em!!
Just to explain the Dice roll thing in a simple way. In DnD you have a 20 sided dice that measures how effective your action is. If you get a 20 your action is perfect, if you get a 1 its a critical fail. So for example if you were hitting an enemy and get 20 you kill them with one blow and end up killing some other enemies in the range as well. If you get a 1 not only do you not hit the enemy you also accidentally hit your own head while aiming for the blow and are now incapacitated. The kids said that Will needed a 13 to complete his attack, but he got a 7, which is lower then 13, so the monster got him.
I discovered your channel today and got excited that you are watching Stranger Things. I’ve seen the entire series three times but I love watching others discover it. I’m a 54 year-old American Gen X’er so I was the age of the kids in the 80s and the nostalgia is REAL. I miss those days dearly. I found the two of you charming and interesting….so I’m going on this journey with you. New subscriber…Cheers!
I think I already know who will become Spartan’s favorite character. He just doesn’t suspect it yet. I’m sure people who have watched the show know too. 😊
This whole series is a love letter to the 80s as well as the movies/TV shows of the 80s. I was the same age as these kids in 1983, and I can tell you this is the closest thing to a time machine I've ever seen. They've nailed it in all four seasons.
Yeah, this season takes place during my senior year of high school and the set dressing is just insane. They were actually astute enough to remember that there was still a lot of 1970s to 1983, still a lot of earth tones going on. So often you see people doing the early '80s all up in neon, and things just didn't look like that in 1983.
@@elkins4406Exactly. When people want something to look eighties, they immediately go to neon. But that really didn't get big until the second half of the 80s. They got the clothing and hairstyles perfect for 1983.
The best part of this show, and there are many amazing parts, is the characters. There really isn't a character who you don't cheer for in some way or one who you truly dislike/hate. Of course, everyone has some characters that irk them, but in the end, it's one of the most well-written character-driven series ever on television. Each one is so vital to the plot. Every single one.
One thing to note, the DND game they play almost each season has direct story implications, foreshadowing if events to come. Season 1 is more direct, but the hints become a little vaguer as we progress
CAN NOT WAITTTT!!!! Sooooo happy this is happening!!! I’m calling it now at least 2-3 times Pudgey cries whileSpartan pretends like he is unaffected by is choked up fighting back tears. That’s just in general throughout the entire series.
This is a great show. I would also recommend dark which is a german sci fi series. Best show on netflix along bb and bcs but sadly doesnt have as much popularity due to it being in german.
Hopper is a perfect character to sort of embody the audience. He’s smart, he knows something’s up, and he wants answers. Also, it’s rare to find a piece of media in this genre where you never yell at the TV because characters in this are nearly always handling things in a logical way and the audience likely couldn’t come up with anything better if they were in that situation.
this channel literally is a "gift that keeps giving" but in a most possibly positive way! I follow you since your league of legends reaction days and gets better and better isnt it! I'm sure you will enjoy stranger things. child acting is very good, 80's atmosphere and musics are epic. Cheers
To be fair, not sure if they would upload it to youtube if they couldn't really get into a series. But it certainly does seem like they like all the shows that they watch.
There was a show they couldn’t get into and stopped watching and posting videos. Ones that are recommended over and over by lots of people they will likely enjoy because they appreciate good storytelling and filmmaking and like to analyze characters and themes and symbolism and stuff
I found you guys because of Breaking Bad and I'm pumped you're now starting Stranger Things!! Two of my absolute favorite shows for different reasons. The quality of ST only goes up with each season, its incredible!
I tried watching this show as it aired. I made it through about four episodes before I dropped it. A few years later, I heard a few people raving about how good it was about three months before season 4 started. So, I gave it another chance. Binged all three seasons in a weekend. Watched all of it again a week later. Got my wife to watch it, and she loved it. Season 4 came out, and we watched the whole thing together as it came out. This is a very good television series. I look forward to many Pudgey screams and nauuurrss, and Spartan being overconfidently wrong half the time.
@@ebabilgI can't say because of spoilers for Spartan and Pudgey. Season 1E4, and I deployed to Afghanistan before S1E5 happened. I have kids, and I wanted nothing more to do with the show at the time.
To be fair, the first season is almost entirely propped up on your love of the characters and the underlying mystery. I think I can understand why you thought it was a bit slow. It's really only when story arcs begin crisscrossing that really makes this show shine, and that only happens later in the season.
Honestly, I wasn't into the show either right away, I almost gave up about halfway thru season 1. I did give up in season 3, I do not like that season. Took a year off, then forced myself to finish season 3 just cuz I wanted to see season 4 after hearing it was so good. I didn't regret it. Good series, but I feel it's a bit overrated. Jmo
I am loving the hedging at the beginning of this reaction. Lots of different ways of saying "We might not like this, please forgive us!" We know you'll love it lol
Best kid actors you'll ever see. So glad you're doing this series though, my lunchtime Monday and Thursday entertainment continues! Thank you very much 😊
One of my favorite reactors reacting to one of my favorite shows? IM SO HYPED!I was planning a rewatch anyway cause I was missing my boy Steve. I'm really excited to watch the series again with you guys 🙌
At 8:20 you see the outline to Vecna not a demogorgan. This was explained by the Duffer brothers that Vecna has been apart of the story plot since day one. This blew me away.
You guys will be SO INVESTED in this show In no time flat! These kids are not your typical kid actors that can’t really connect. They really bring it. The entire cast does in every season. Im so so so excited to see you experience this!
There is no fear at all on this about quality of child actors--these kids are stellar. And this is super dark--scary, even. But it also has ten billion 80s throwback details. I graduated high school in 1984, so am one year older than Steve Harrington is meant to be. All this stuff was super fun for me. I am looking forward to seeing fresh reactions.
i’m so excited! i love you guys and have been watching since game of thrones, you’ve done a few different series and movies i love now but stranger things is truly top notch! you’ll love it
So happy you guys are finally watching this show (Stranger Things), because it’s one of my favorite shows of all time, and it’s one of the shows that y’all need to watch before Season 5 comes out next year, which is now in production
I’m so surprised to see this, I figured I must’ve watched your stranger things reactions already😂 i can’t believe you’re basically just finding out about this show lol. Love your channel and love stranger things. Straight up one of the best shows you’ll watch, especially when you fall in love with the characters (which won’t take long).
20:30 This is when this show hooked me. As a kid born in the mid-seventies, this show hit all the nostalgia spots nicely, so the first half of the episode was cool. Especially with the "fat, lazy sheriff" trope. But, when Hopper gets serious, I realized, this wasn't an 80s show...it was a show set in the 80s. I hope that makes sense.
I was listening to your worries like “Nah you’ll enjoy it.” 😂 Knew you would, there’s so much yet left to come! Excited to see you guys watch this series. Its one of my absolute favourites
Such a fun show! Season 1 is a magical experience. There was a season that kind of lost me, can’t remember which one, but I was told the writing got better again so I’ll be picking it back up
Great reaction guys to my favorite show ever! Can’t wait to continue with y’all! New sub here. I also want to thank Australia for Dacre Montgomery who you’ll meet in a later ST season! ☮️
I’m so happy you guys started this series! One of my favorite shows! It’s really a great balance of characters from each generation and they’re all great actors. And the story will only get stranger *pun intended lol 😆
The thing with Will going on the offensive for the team in the game instead of playing it safe doesn’t correlate to his actions in real life or him going missing. I believe the point was to motivate his friends to do the same. Instead of staying at home and playing it safe, they would risk danger and go out looking for their friend.
I knew you'd like it. Can't wait for you to start attaching yourselves to certain characters. Fastastic acting all around. And the storyline keeps you intriqued. Enjoy. I know I'll love your reactions to this series. See you in the next one.
Sooo excited for this journey!!! The mystery of the 1st season especially is top tier in my opinion, as you’re still growing used to the world. The whole thing has its amazing moments, though! Enjoy the journey! ❤
@@morpheusjones4753 It didn't get a huge following because it was on Cinemax. Only got 2 seasons. Clive Owen plays the main character. Give it a try. It ranks higher than Breaking Bad for me.
I'm pretty sure the show is loosely based on MK Ultra, Stargate and Project Montauk (actual covert U.S. projects that happened). I even saw somewhere that the shows original title was supposed to be "Montauk"
I like to think that the bullet just grazed Benny's head and he's just knocked out. This was the best era to grow up in. I feel sorry for the kids today that they will never get to experience childhood the way that I did.
Remember the first thoughts about breaking bad. “ I don’t know if this is our thing”. Same opening to stranger things. All I can think is they have no idea what is coming their way.
Great choice to watch and review from Pudgey and Spartan... This is no spoiler, but there are movies to watch or to know about before watching "Stranger Things" Season 1, which is in fact a love letter to the '80s classics and the following movies: "The Exorcist" (1973), "Jaws" (1975), "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1978), "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977), "The Shining" (1980), "Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back" (1980), "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982), "The Thing" (1982), "Poltergeist" (1982), "Firestarter" (1984), "Gremlins" (1984), "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984), "Ghostbusters" (1984), "The Goonies" (1985), "St. Elmo's Fire" (1985), "Stand By Me" (1986), "Stephen King's IT" (1990), "Jurassic Park" (1993), "Back to the Future" (1985), "Day of the Dead" (1985), "The NeverEnding Story" (1984), "The Terminator" (1984), "Die Hard" (1988), "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982), "Red Dawn" (1984), "Alien" (1979), "Aliens" (1986).
i love Stranger Things, but having grown up in the 80s, i kinda wish this show had actually come out back in the 80s, i would have enjoyed it so much more as a kid than an adult 😂
Funny you should mention that. It's something I've thought about before that in some ways, even into the 2000s, life was more similar to the way it was in the early 1900s, including the degree to which it was natural and defined by the actual physical world, than to the way it is now.
