Everybody, and I mean *EVERYBODY* , was waiting for you to react to *this* episode. 16:20 "This is like a horror series." That was precisely the writer's intention when he started working on it. Two friends, who were writers, met for lunch. They were both near the end of their projects and discussed what each would do next. Isekai was getting popular. They agreed that they'd each do an isekai. One horror, one comedy. Re:Zero was the horror one. Konosuba was the comedy one.
@@TheReactPack I hate REM. Nothing is going to allow me to forgive Rem for what she did to Suburu in the early going. Also Puck is talking about Emilia dying when he said "daguther" to Suburu.
@@Danny-mg1hu In Rem defense, Subaru was pretty much a suspicious person, dude came out of nowhere during a Royal Selection and became close with Emilia a royal candidate.
@@kennji3986 that is a defense? someone who is suspicious person warrants a BRUTAL KILLING?? Rem healed him in order for the TORTURE to continue for longer! She killed him multiple times but I guess its okay since the dude comes back.
Betelgeuse Romani-Conti... DESU! is voiced by the great Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who also voices Inosuke in Demon Slayer, Kirito in SAO, and Bell in Danmachi. Geuse, in my mind, is his greatest role. Ep15 is THE hardest episode to get through. We see the madness of Sloth, the bravery of Rem, the impotence of Subaru, and... Ooof. That scene is truly unsettling.
In portuguese Betelgeuse is voiced by one of the greatest (if no the greatest) brazilians dubs. It's a really hard character to voice and im happy that they choose well in many languages
To give you some light novel context: Whereas the anime only seems to get really brutal around here, in the novels for episodes 4-7 you see Subaru go through the first loops relatively optimistic but when Rem tortures him because of the witch scent triggering her, the following loop he refuses food and drink and stays awake via self harming, cutting his hands. Then Emilia comes to get him to eat and ends up feeding him like a child after a joke of his passes her sarcasm detector, and he starts giving in a little breaking down, then Beatrice makes a contract to protect him and that finally gets him to sleep. Then when he's had his breakdown failing to jump off the cliff and wakes up after falling unconscious from exhaustion, him deciding to jump after all is because he's decided he can't live with things as they are... Not as in he needs to use return by death, but even if he dies for good he'd rather do that than deal with them all hating him now Rem's dead. So put that way, post ep 7 Subaru is Subaru who already became actively suicidal and is now dealing with the aftermath in his mental state. The thing is though, Subaru isn't written like there's no coming back because he's broken. Things are fucked and his mental health is basically gonna stay bad, BUT he also has plenty of happy times somehow. It's why he's great. He might have every ptsd symptom under the sun but he can still laugh and do good and be helped and help them in the end.
in your discussion you metioned how its a great progress for the character of rem, going from killing him because she thinks hes a spy to sacrificing her life to safe him. i totaly agree and its one of the many reasons this show is so great! timetravel as a plotdevice is kinda hard to navigate for an author, many tried and there are a lot of shows who are really bad because of it, worst case you write youself into a corner where the only way out are paradoxes or a huge load of plotholes. most dont even use timetravel like it should be used. re:zero differs in that the author uses subarus "resets" to show the same character from different angles. rem is the most noticeable excample but there are many more if you pay close enough attention. it shows you a side of the character that you normaly wouldnt be able to see :D sorry for grammar, english is not my mother language
The sad thing is that it seems that Subaru was HOPING for Emilia to end up in a desperate predicament, specifically so he could play the hero and redeem himself by saving her again. Only the “desperate predicament” turned out to be so much worse than he could imagine - and far beyond his ability to handle.
Episode 15 is the peak of Re:Zero. Congrats for reaching this point. From the directing to plot to music, this episode is absolutely great in every sense. 💯/💯
Guys chill. I am talking about ONLY anime, not the novels. And yes, this is THE best episode of the anime for many, many people including me. You can see it with a little research on internet. Thanks.
That tease about Subaru respawning at the appa seller's shop though, made my blood pressure rise on my first watch 😅 Well, guess there's no undoing his embarrassing antics at the capital and dispute with Emilia now, gonna have to live with that. Requiem of Silence is such a haunting OST. This episode is hard to watch for much different reasons than E13. You're right that Rem has been much more developed so far, there's a reason so many people call her best girl.
There’s a lot of content to take notice of here, listening closely to what Betelgeuse says yields a lot of info. But yeah, this episode is incredible. Super messed up and sad, but incredible. It does a great job with displaying Subarus mental state and as a villian introduction, it was fantastic. I’m hyped for the rest of the reactions!
I remember watching this weekly when it was airing. After this episode I think I took maybe a 3 week break because I was so afraid for the characters I felt nauseous thinking what they're about to go through. I could not handle another cliffhanger like that for a while. It's so odd to me thinking back on how invested I was.
I don't how a lot of reacters fail to put it together that the giant beast at the end is Puck. He's the only feline character we've been introduced that uses ice magic, lives at the roswaal mansion and calls Emilia his daughter.
To be fair, this particular episode just has a ton of information to process. The cultists, Subaru's mental state, and Rem's death are all really shocking. And we've never seen Puck act anything like this, so it's not easy to digest that revelation.
My fave is here! Betelgeuse Romani Conti...Desu!!! He and Mahito need to have a crazy-off lol. 3:35 I believe that's puck. Same with the giant at the end that lobbed his head off...
Since you both completed s1 ep24. One main information or cut content about subaru is When subaru dies sometimes he didn't immediately respawn and before respawning sometimes subaru soul or his sub- consciousness goes to the shadow realm where he dont have body parts and also he meet /see one girl in shadow.
It is my opinion that Betelgeuse is actually right when he says Subaru is "pretending" to be insane. Subaru is actually conscious and aware, but it's way "easier" for him to deal with his trauma by kinda, shutting down and being looked after by Rem. Kinda how depression makes you not want to get out of bed and saps your motivation. Subaru isn't actually _insane_ he's just overwhelmed and found it easier to stop doing anything and avoiding everything than to think about what happened in the previous loop. Truly slothful.
To give a more generous reply, if he was choosing it was an unconscious level and absolutely not conscious, you see his struggle and lack of awareness in the novel. But Petelgeuse gets him to blame himself no matter what level of choice it was. And in my opinion Petelgeuse lacks self awareness and is lying to himself about being too far gone. "Any level of insanity like mine is beyond my control, therefore I have the excuse to take my pain out on both the world around me and the cultists! I can't be expected to change! I'm broken and insane, it's not something I chose not to come back from!" pair this subtext to his character with the fact Tappei says, even before, Petelgeuse was scum, and I think you can see despite the exaggeration because Tappei likes to troll there's definitely an intention not to redeem him.
One of the saddest, most tragic, most amazing episodes of Re: Zero. On a personal note, this episode was my introduction to Re: Zero… I just turned on the TV and saw this from the part in the cave… and with the rolling credits at the end, I thought this was a movie or something, lol.
This is probably the best single episode in all of anime and maybe even media in general, its amazing how the studio managed to produce this masterpiece of an episode
The crazy thing is, if you were watching this when it first came out in 2016, going crazy having to wait another whole week to find out what happened next lol 😊
Bruh, what the hell did this show turn into? You ladies are correct. this has turned into a horror show. Seeing Subaru and Rem, especially Rem. Go through all of these horrible and disturbing ordeals makes me want to vomit. Not to mention Ram and the children. The group responsible for this needs to be punished to the highest order.
So far Rem has died the most out of the friends Subaru has made in jsut sad 😂like why everybody , why the kids what is there to gain by putting this curse on Subaru ? Idk lol
You mentioned Betelgeuse Romanée-Conti's name sounds like "beetlejuice". "Beetlejuice" is a common mispronunciation of the name of the star Betelgeuse, the second brightest star in the Orion constellation. Relatedly, "Subaru" is the japanese name for the Pleiades cluster, also called the seven sisters. Rem and Ram may be a reference to Gemini. Beatrice may (though this is a little tenuous) be related to Bellatrix, another star in Orion. Star and celestial themes will keep cropping up.
As for pronunciation, Betelgeuse is the real name of a star and Beetlejuice is one of the proper ways to say it. Also BET-el-juice is another way to say it. Google says Beetlejuice, which is currently the most popular way to say it.
Oh, that's interesting. I guess the subs used a b because it's hard to differentiate the sound of the two and they recognized that it's the name of a star. Given the subs, it's probably fine for them to keep saying Beetlejuice though.@@Prushbinger
@@Waylornthe subs that have the jealous witch instead of the witch of envy in them, not sure which those are exactly, crunchyroll perhaps? anyway, those subs have a lot of mistakes in them, these are just a couple of examples
Gosh, i love this episode, and how anyelse said: yeah EVERYBODY was waiting for you to react to this episode. At this point, most of the fanbase prefers Rem as the romantic interest for subaru than Emilia. Anyway, it's always fun to see the theories people made about what is happening. it's a very complex plot, but we will discoverign with time.
So the scene where Rem moves up to Subaru like that after being twisted makes people confused at times. You saw her cast healing magic in the last episode, right? It may not be as good as Felis but it's good enough to keep her from dying by constantly spamming healing magic while she was being twisted like that. She used the last of it to break Subaru's chains.
I totally understand and get what Lady Sam and Morgan mean, when regarding the bonds between Subaru and Rem vs Subaru and Emilia. While he has been through significant experiences with both of them, there is something a little more profound and pivotal when it comes to Subaru and Rem. Rem seems more understanding and compassionate with Subaru than Emilia and Subaru in turn seems more open and real with Rem than he does with Emilia. Which isn’t a knock on Emilia, her relationship with Subaru is profound in its own way. I think both are worth supporting and shipping.
Let's add that Emilia always treated Subaru the same. Rem was absolute pyscho before ep 12, she literally tortured him by herself (Ros nor Ram said to do so). Then after said ep, she is very keen on him.
Pay attention to the details girls! at this point a lot of things were revealed for example the freezing room where Subaru broke in pieces was magic protection from .... and the big cat coming out from the castle looks like ....
You probably already figured it out if you are ahead on patreon, but you will feel like it's obvious when you learn what the big creature is because they give you lots of hints in the previous episodes.
Glad i'm not the only person who considers season 1 to be a horror/psychological genre. Even though season 2 kinda went the complete opposite direction and was more drama/romance
10:10 the thing in this part is that Subaru bas indeed faking being crazy. One interesting fact about crazy or insane people is that only an insane person can tell if somebody is faking being crazy (This was shown in an experiment in 1973 by Dr David Rosenhan) In this part Subaru was broken and sad but not crazy, he was faking it because he just didnt want to deal with all that sh*t. And as you can see only betelgeuse noticed it.
Haven't read the novels? Then don't spread wrong information and pseudoscience please! :D Do you know how many old psychology experiments used in pop science books are unrepeatable bunk? It's literally a major concern in the field.
@@siginotmylastname3969 The point of the experiment wasnt even about psychology itself my guy, please shut up. You would know that, if instead of trowing shit you use that thing called Google, and search for what i typed. The experiment was to show how you could fake being insane infront of a psychologist and 100% of the time you could get away with it. Also showing that most of the time, doctors will diagnost the wrong mental problems for their patients. That way many people could get away with different crimes just by faking being insane. What I write about was kind of a "fun fact" they discovered during this experiment. Where all the fake diagnosted patients blended in pretty easily but all of the real patients asked them "why are you even here?" And for Subaru, yes, I readed the novels, but you dont even need the novels to know that Subaru was faking it. Betelgeuse tells you everything you need in this episode. He tells subaru "you CHOSE to do nothing and that is why she died..." because he knew. Also, nobody that is traumatized gets cured instantly after watching a loved one being torn apart infront of them. So please. delight me with your answer. Or next time just use f-ing Google.
