My grandparents were from Huntington, my grandfather dreamed of being a Marshall when he was a child and his older sister did go to Marshall, college ended up not being in the cards for him as he joined the navy to serve during the Korean War, he was a Marshall fan to the day he died and he always had a spiritual connection to the school, when the accident happened to the football team he was heart broken…. Years later he went to the movies to see this movie, it was the only movie I ever saw him actually go to a theatre to see…. He cried. He bought the movie when it came to dvd but once was enough for him, he just kept the movie as a keepsake, he would cry at the mere mention of the accident or this movie… it was his favorite movie for years…. He loved Marshall university!
I can’t imagine losing a whole team and staff! The AD is a tough enough job when you have all the moving parts, but to be faced with this, monumental achievement!
To me this was the part of the movie I lost all the buttons on my shirt I love the way he stood in the pouring rain Everything national championship Marshall won is because he said want to play football
After the plane crash, after Marshall had decided not to end the football program, the NCAA automatically granted us the ability to play Freshman on our "Varsity" squad.
I'm from a small town about 40 mins north of Huntington and live in Huntington now one of the 5 they couldn't recover is from my town Alan Skeens #59 Ravenswood Red Devil
I'm convinced the only way Marshall was able to beat Notre Dame Chad Pennington came out of retirement so did Randy Moss and Matthew McConaughey was coaching
I loved this movie, but am I the only one that noticed that the President of Marshall drove from Kansas City to West Virginia, and he’s still rain soaked from the night before?
Look closer: his suit is dry, his shoes don't leave any water in his steps, and the squishing is just slight. He drove back straight back from Kansas City, so he was dry except for inside his shoes, which he never took off and never had a chance to dry. The scene was done well!
This is one of the moments that I wonder how much was changed for dramatic effect or is this how it happened? I mean specifically waiting outside the office of the NCAA in Kansas City in the rain part.
The NCAA automatically granted the team to play freshmen on the varsity team in the real story. The university didn’t have to beg the NCAA for approval like what you saw right here. The scene right here is NOT true. But still a great movie.
2:24 I'm sure that the football director whoever didn't randomly and unannounced show up at their rival's doorstep in the pouring rain and just happened to run into that college's program coordinator JUST he was leaving, that's melodramatic but gosh it makes for a great scene, great acting by David strathirn, Great directing by McG
It's actually the theme to "the Good, the Bad and the Ugly." This movie came out long before Mockingjay was even a concept, and its referencing a much older time.
Uh what? That's the whistle tone from the Western "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" an Iconic music note that is associated with Clint Eastwood and the Western Gunslinger. How old are you again?
