I live in Dallas Texas. Just heard on the news that volunteers are coming to western North Carolina to provide meals to all the people that are affected by the hurricane.

After living thru Florence and 16 days without power, yes there is always damage and destruction from a hurricane, but the one thing that still stays with me is how the community came together and not just the locals but many from far off! We had linemen from Houston area and from other states, churches from upstate feed us! Although there is destruction, people come together for each other! Prayers of strength and love.

I'm glad you all are ok. You are definitely blessed. Good job helping your neighbors. That's how the good Lord intended it to be.

I’ve been thinking and praying for your family. I live in East Central Florida and on my part of the state we didn’t get it bad at all. however, some of my family on the west coast did not fare so well

Mike was first to put up a video. He Let everyone know all of you and The Rhodes family were ok. Get Yourself a power inverter and a couple Of deep cycle batteries. You have Power for the little stuff and can save Your fuel for the generator. Saved Our butts here in Florida a couple of Times. Would run the generator just Long enough to keep our food cold And frozen then shut it down and Run everything else off battery. In 04 went 7 weeks doing that. Stay Safe.

Yes those thunderstorm were scary, worst I've ever heard. NC is devastated. I have power lines in my front yard. Had no power or cell service. 24 miles away Chimney rock NC is Completely Gone. Total devastation. Glad everyone is safe neighbor❤❤

Have friends up in Burnsville Asheville. TN got clobbered. Glad you guys okay. Such rough storms. Lots to consider if buying in areas like these. You guys done good in that regard.

We in Central & Southern Indiana got quite a bit of damage from Helene. We received 4 or more inches of rain in a few hours & then more rain. We had strong winds that took down trees & power lines. Closing several roads & Highways. We did not take the direct hit like Yall did. She was over 370 miles wide when she made landfall. (The largest since Hugo in 1989 to hit the Carolina’s ) The Ohio Valley did get some Flooding & Wind Damage. Helene was a MASSIVE HURRICANE. I’m 62 & she was the largest I can remember hitting us. PRAYERS for all. Ben is correct be prepared. The key is you must prepare for the what if situation. We have practice this our entire 44 years of marriage.. We normally just get some rain from hurricanes but Helene is one for the record books.

News about just how bad it is in Western NC is just now getting out in the main stream. If you are like myself and worried about people who are still missing. The absolute best place i have gotten condenced up to date, and eyes on the ground info from day one has been North Carolinas weather advisory FB page. WRAL even brought him into the studio yesterday 9/28/2024 because he had the most info county to county. This has been absolutely catastrophic. Some towns have been completely washed away. A few roads have opened...kinda, but some places still only accessible by air, and people are still being rescued today 9/29. Several officials have ised the term "biblical perportions" when discribing the damage to towns, roads, and even geography in some places. A lot of help has started to trickle in with more on the way, its just getting the access, and may stuck with no water, food, electricity, or a way out. So many are still missing, i several, and am down to two still missing, although its believed they are ok, just no way to communicate or get anywhere, and word has it beech mountain, and banner elk are now getting some help....or what is left of those places. I say this because i dont think the news has shown just how bad and widespread this in in the mountains of NC, they say this is many times worse then the 1916 which was the one everyone says was the worst. If you can donate....find a reputable charity, ir if local and when allowed back into western NC if you can help in any way please do. This will take decades to recover in some places, and sadly some may never, or have to fully start over. So so happy to hear you all are safe, i was worried for sure. Pease check out north Carolinas weather advisory on fb for lots of great information, updates, and even ways to help if you can. Prayers for all the people from Florida to VA who have been affected.

I am so glad you guys posted!! I know western N.C. got hit worse than northern and eastern, so I have pictured your property with all its swales and all the rain that came down. SO glad you were okay! ~ My brother and SIL live in between Winston-Salem and Greensboro. They were planning to come down (Atlanta) that weekend but the flooding between here and there was pretty severe, so they canceled their trip. Without power for about two hours, but no trees down. Same here, but the lights only flickered a few times. ~ Looks like you guys got a new skyline around the pig-pen. It was really nice of you to help out the neighbors!

Happy to see you’re all safe. We went through something similar in Nova Scotia where I live 2 years ago when hurricane Fiona came through. We were out of power for 10 days and some people were a week longer. Utility workers came up from the Carolina’s, Florida and all over the states to save us. I hope they send some of ours your way to help you guys.

We seem to be in a donut hole here in our little portion of East Tenn. Little Pigeon river was out of its banks but not more than we havent seen many times before. Three dams in other areas around us were in danger of breach, releasing water as fast as they could. Our dam decided to release as much as possible in case those other dams failed. I never saw any trees down but im sure there were. We still have power amazingly. Praying for western North Carolina. They announced that ALL roads were officially closed. I usually drive there via I-40 and that washed out so it will be quite a while before I can go that way again. Havent heard when the Smoky Mountain National Park will reopen.

In our area, they won't even touch power lines until the fallen (and any about to fall) vegetation has been cleared. They do assess and call in tree cutters etc... but, there are so many of them. And, they dont want citizens doing the clearing for an assortment of reasons including electrocution by live lines; there have been times that live lines have not been any type of an issue. Getting roads clear for first responders if necessary, citizens, and electric crews can speed up the restoration of power. Getting people's driveways clear has been a big help for many. And so on down the line. - Thank you Hollar family for helpimg to get the road clear. Dint forget to add yoirselves tomthe chip drop list and also let folks working in your area what younare ammeniabke to have dropped off including chips; even the crews' comminications are diminished..

God bless you all for what everybody's living through. Tornadoes in hurricane Laura took our house with us in it but with the grace of God we walked out of what was left. We had awesome neighbors that gave us a camping trailer to live in title and all and we lived without electricity for 31 days my daughter and her husband were much longer. You will survive this extended camping trip
