Fethiye, which was an accident center in Menteşe Sanjak of Aydın province at the end of the 19th century, was named Makri, meaning "far away land" in the Roman period, and was changed to Fethiye in memory of Fethi Bey, one of the first air martyrs whose plane crashed in 1914.
Fethiye, which has a unique beach like Ölüdeniz, is one of the important tourism centers of Turkey. Ölüdeniz beach was chosen as the most beautiful beach in the world in 2006 with 82% of the votes. It has very suitable places for diving, such as Af Kule.
There are many caves opened to tourism. With its natural structure, alternative sports such as paragliding are possible. There are very special areas with untouched nature, such as Butterfly Valley and Kabak Bay. The islands called 12 Islands can be visited with daily tours. Apart from Ölüdeniz, the beautiful Belcekız, Çalış and İztuzu beaches around Fethiye are uniquely beautiful and worth seeing.

Lycia, called the land of lights in ancient times, is located on the Teke peninsula between Fethiye and Antalya. The view of Fethiye and the bay from here is worth seeing.

It is the only inhabited island in the chain of islands surrounding the region. There is Kızılada to the west of Knight Island, Çalış Beach to the east, Fethiye to the south, and the open sea to the north. Due to its location in the heart of the port, it follows the sunlight throughout the day.
