@@sortastupid if while watching season 2, you feel like you missed something it's because insteed of a direct secound season, they made a game (wich from what I've heard wasn't great) and then followed with season two so the story between the seasons is pretty much only in the game.
You probably already know this by now but captain marvel was shazams first name, but when Marvels captain marvel started becoming popular they had to change it.
Particularly DC stopped using Captain Marvel for a while, which is why Marvel could get away with theirs. But when DC brought Captain Marvel back they had to change the name
Actually what happen was that dc sued the publisher of Shazam which stopped his comics from being printed, when that happen marvel quickly took the opportunity to use the name since it wasn’t being used, since then, marvel has always held the rights stoping dc from using the name in the title
It's complicated. As I understand in the 1953 DC claimed Captain Marvel violated their copyright to Superman (after Captain Marvel started outselling Superman) and maliciously used litigation to force Fawcett to cease publication of Captain Marvel comics(I think as a settlement). Thus the trademark "Captain Marvel" lapsed leading to Marvel creating their own Captain Marvel in the 1967. (This was character's name was Mar-Vell, Alias Walter Lawson) The character of Carol Danvers appearing for the first time later in the 60's DC then licensed the rights to the character Captain Marvel from Fawcett and relaunched the comic in 1972 but since Marvel now held the trademark for Captain Marvel they called the series Shazam but continued to call the character Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers then becomes Ms. Marvel in 1977 as a spin-off of Captain Marvel. The original Captain Marvel then dies in 1982. Then Carol Danvers becomes Binary in 1982, then Warbird in 1998, and then becomes Captain Marvel in 2012 around the same time DC officially renamed the mainline character to Shazam in 2011. Though DC still has the rights to the character and as such can refer to them as Captain Marvel whensoever they want.
Lol..the reason .. it because..marvel claimed the trading name.. dc can use Cap Marvel name as they want, but they can make comics titles in the name of cap marvel....cap marvel (shazam) is more popular and he was in comics for a long time alomst from the beginning of suprman..not because cap marvel is more papular 🤓🤓
It's how they do it, I've seen it on their Rick and Morty videos too. Didn't expect it to happen quite this early in the season, but I guess they just got too into it or something
@@robertfalk3767 nah, all the vids are up on their site for pay. so this is either a mistake in upload schedule or a delibrate choice. Hope this sin't a sign that the individual eps were doing bad.
@@matthewpopow6647 I think dekiberate. They get roughly 10k more views uploading full binges or seasons vs their per episode reactions. 🤷🏿♂️ May be more profitable this way people who watch reacters do tend to enjoy longer form content. Myself included. 😅
I love the Aquaman apologetics from this era. First Aquaman was the most outrageous part of the main cast in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. (Because surprise! Having super strength is useful in every context, not just in the ocean.) Then Aqualad being the leader and arguably the coolest member of the team in season 1 of Young Justice.
@@bthsr7113 i think most of the aquaman jokes come from people who grew up with the super best friends show from like the 60s or whatever in which i think aquaman was kind of a joke and other people just copy those jokes without context
For the question on Beast Boy's origin, I believe the usual way it goes is his parents were rather neglectful zoologists on expedition in africa and Garfield got infected with a rare disease, and they had to make a serum from dna of a rare monkey or something to cure him. Though I think the doctor who was curing him was also a mad scientist that experimented on Garfield and himself, using the serum to give them both the Beast Boy powers
2:19:32 Captain Marvel is his original name & name for his comics but because of Marvel Comics back in the 60s or 70s the comic name was changed to SHAZAM! but he still went by Captain Marvel in the comic obviously because if he called out his name he would transform back to normal. Young Justice and the Mortal Kombat vs DC game were the last times he used the Captain Marvel name because of Marvel comics winning the rights to the name in the 2010s charging Ms. Marvel's name going forward.
Ypung Justice Season 1 truly is PEAK DC media and such a tightly fit excellent start to a great show and although later seasons are not as good as Season 1, its still great watching people appreciate the series more and more.
@@bthsr7113I'd argue both had opposite problems. I think the first season of JL was finding it's footing and ends on a high note. I don't think the characterisation or story was especially ground breaking to start off and powers were inconsistent. Young justice starts off amazing with great characterisation and an intriguing story that every episode helps progress in someway near enough. With the exception of Wally, everyone's powers are consistent and their abilities are well developed. Speedster get the short end of the stick but whatever. Then YJ falls off considerably after season 2.
@@bthsr7113 as much as i love those shows, i think YJ is better simply for the fact that it has an overarching story which makes it more compelling and captivating to watch. there is so many little details and foreshadowing moments that you might not notice on a first watch which makes it so satisfying to rewatch as well
I am very happy you guys instantly realized Garfield might be or become Beast Boy, few reactors Ive seen have done so. Its such a cool appearance if you know.
Damn, thought they take it slow but okay? I blame the assholes on Patreon and here. anyways glad you guys enjoyed I do recommend Justice League/Unlimited not as good but still th best.
Nah no one on patreon or here influenced this decision. This is one that was too far ahead so we pushed this out since the regular episodes were not hitting the channel average
2:23:16 check out the Milestone Comics run where DC supported minority focused stories. Birthplace of characters Static, Rocket, Icon, and others. Also helmed by the great Dwayne Mcduffie who wrote many of the DC shows you react to
So fun fact Wally West is the flash family member most proficient in hand to hand combat he actually took the time to train proper and eventually develop the infinite mass punch where at light speed his fist hit with the force of a small sun exploding. That's Kid Flash a few years out from this but still. Love Wally so much
1:48:10 Ra's al Ghul is voiced by actor Oded Fehr from both Deuce Bigalow movies, The Mummy 1 & 2, and Resident Evil movies, he also voiced Doctor Fate in the Justice League animated series & Justice League Unlimited animated series, Equinox in the Batman: Brave and the Bold animated series, and Mr. Freeze in the Batman Unlimited series & animated movie.
Young Justice was a huge hit when it came out. The amount of shock and disappointment I had when I found out it had been cancelled after season 2 is rivaled only by my immense disappointment when they cancelled Spectacular Spider-Man. The fans were begging for a season 3 for years after the show was cancelled. Looking forward to this! o7
@@evil3775 You must be a newer fan then. It was cancelled after season 2 and the fans begged for years for them to make another season before they got approved for Season 3.
@@evil3775yeah it was and for the most stupid reason ever because too many girls liked the show and they weren’t selling merchandise to girls so it hurt their bottom line so rather than idk make merchandise for girls they instead canceled the show all together because sexism I guess.
The control panel for Superboy's original pod was snapped clean off during the initial fight when they freed him, but the Shields were in the rebuilt one that was placed there after his liberation, meaning Luthor predicted Superboy would be coming back for the clone.
4:28:19 its the order in which they join or get added to the system. The Team is under the B series designations and trusted civilians are A, then Robin sets up G series in season 3 too
@@sortastupid you should have. Apokalips is the name of the supposed First Mutant an omega level threat capable of destroying and creating entire worlds. He was the villain of the last X-Men movie. The story goes. He is essentially a cross of Vandel Savage (DC), Mr. Sinister (Marvel), and Thanos.
Between that line about why he trained Robin, and the basketball Downtime scene, we already have one of the best "Bruce by measure of fatherhood" Batman versions. Those scenes show he cares for his adopted son, and not just in a distant way.
the League deals with heavy-duty shit on a regular basis, it makes sense to prepare the team to deal with failure and catastrophe now that they've decided they don't want to just be sidekicks on low-stakes adventures where they punch some guy with a cold gun. there's always gonna be real stakes and they need to learn what that feels like, it would've been fine if M'gann wasn't such a powerful telepath
If I remember right, Shazam was once named Captain Marvel but some name copyright shenanigans allowed them and Marvel to both use the name before DC changed it
Yeah, Captain Marvel was actually a really old comic hero, just 1 year younger than Superman. I believe it was due to the rise of Marvel movies and their connected comics that ended having DC decide to go with Shazam instead since they wanted to revitalize him and didn't want conflicting marketing.
He used to be owned by a company called Fausit Comics. The company was forced to stop printing Captain Marvel by DC because he used to be a Superman knockoff. Their trademark expired and other companies started using the name until the 70's when Marvel paid the then current trademark owners to not print books with the name and bought that trademark from them. DC could still call him Captain Marvel but his books were sold under the Shazam title until 2011 when they started calling him Shazam in comics as well
Superman VS The Elite is one I strongly recommended to them a while back. Specifically when they were talking about why not just have heroes hwak the bad guys to keep them down. Superman VS The Elite makes a VERY good case for why Heroes Don't Do That.
No lie, this version of Vandal Savage is hands down my favorite DC villain of all time. With just a few well placed moves he not only defeated the entire league, he brought them under his control. AND THAT WAS JUST PHASE ONE!
the show is officially set in Earth-16 of the DC 52 Multiverse. so take a shot every time you hear the number sixteen used in the show. Then be sure to livestream your liver transplants.
Sportsmaster is literally some olympic level athlete that is really good at every sport created and turned his life to crime after he got banned from competing, that's basically his background
It was because he rigged multiple tournaments for assuring he'd still win, or makes money off it, no? I remember he's the farthest from the word "fairplay"
The scientist reporting to the Light. His VA is the late Rene Auberjonois, who was also a guest VA for the Justice league series & of course the actor for Odo on star Trek: deep space nine. Rip
3:17:53 Abel’s House of Secrets is a reference to an old old anthology series DC used to publish, similar to “Detective Comics” or “Amazing Fantasy” before Batman and Spider-Man took over those books. Its companion book was House of Mystery, hosted by Cain.
Wow did I forget how much I love Captain Marvel and Red Tornado. Superboy bringing in strays and leading the New Genesis group, Wally serving as a delivery boy, and Captain Marvel being a bridge between two worlds, those episodes and moments were the best. This was a fun 4+ hours.
"I'm amazed America hasn't tried to take Canada yet." I mean we've already tried twice and failed both times. The second time we failed so badly the British burned D.C.. But I guess the third time's the charm?
The subtitles saying foreign language every time Zatanna casts a spell is hilarious. But Zatanna's spells are very simple English. It's just backwards. You can play it in rewind to hear it
1:47:05 Who told you that the league of shadows was all women originally? I'll look it up in a bit, but I think that's only true for the Arkham universe. Every other depiction has been mostly male or at least a mix of both men and women.
Shazam was originally called Captain Marvel before Marvel Comics started a very long lawsuit. After the dust settled, Faucet Comics (and later DC Comics post acquisition) began to use his transformation command "Shazam" as his actual hero name
Here is a fun side-note regarding the magician zatara: Him and Superman basically share their debut/birthday. Both debuted in the very same comic - Action Comics No. 1. Meaning Zatara, publication-wise, is the oldest character besides Superman who appears in this show.
"I... was the mole?" "Yes. Yes you were." Bloody hell! Vandal Savage is up there with Dr. Doom and others as my favorite villains! Marina Sirtis (Queen B) always had this commanding voice! Should've watched Gargoyles! A lot of Star Trek TNG alumni loaned their voices!
Apocalypse is marvel you're thinking of Darkseid Darkseid rules the planet Apokolips and is one of the main over aching villain's in the DCAU Also DC owns the rights to the character captain marvel but marvel took the name that's why there's two captain marvels the DC one going by captain marvel/SHAZAM.
Also in terms of dc reaction suggestions, I'd recommend: - Batman The Brave and The Bold, a fun and campy batman show where he teams up with various heroes, including Plastic Man as a regular recurring character, alongside other characters like Booster Gold, Guy Gardner, Blue Beetle, Aquaman, and Green Arrow. It's a great show that gives you a crash course on DC as a whole, and fits your comedy style - Batman vs Dracula, a movie that is exactly what it sounds like, and if you like that movie you can check out the show it ties into - Justice League crisis on two earths: My personal favorite DC movie, features Justice League vs a world where they are the evil ones
Your reaction to YJ's Joker is basically everyone's. The show got so much right, in many ways being my favorite version of the DC universe, and then managed possibly the worst Joker.
Fun fact: Martians aren't really weak to fire, they just have pyrophobia. Because Martians have so much control of their bodies and minds to macrolevel, when they believe fire can hurt them, then it does. PS: It is canon Oreos are heavily addictive to them.
Captain Marvel is Shazam. They changed it for the movie. Fun fact, there's a Captain Marvel in Marvel too, and his sidekick is Miss Marvel, who the mcu decided to film and change the name of.
Recomendations of DC comics that have not been animated: - Kingdom Come - JUSTICE for familiar faces - Superman Birthright and American Alien - And i would still read Crisis on Infinite Earths since it's very different to the movies.
I just realised that Zatana lost her mom, kent nelson (which was basically her surrogate father) and her dad, all in a very short period of time. She ended up pretty well rounded for that much lost before the 16 years old
Not sure if anyone knows this but there is a young justice game that I think is cannon because it takes place between seasons 1 and 2 so just heads up.
Yea it is. But i think comics of young justice take place right after the game. And then there’s season 2. But I’m still mad about the time skip because we missed so many good arcs like Jason Todd, Cheshire rescuing red arrow, doom patrol and Barbra becoming batgirl
Comic Arcs not yet animated: Identity Crisis, Final Crisis, Sinestro Corps War, Emerald Night, Kingdom Come, Armageddon 2001, Sword Of Azrael, Knightfall, KnightsEnd, Blackest Night, Batman Endgame, Batman R.I.P., Death Of The Family, Joker War, Dark Nights Metal, Dark Nights Death Metal
Okay guys, I'm taking your challenge!: You want something in DC that hasn't been animated? That'll absolutely annihilate you! There is a massive series called D.C.eaced The John Constantine arc of d.c.eased Will twist every concept you have of what power is. You are not ready for it! Cheers -Alpharious-
if you want to watch some non-dcamu movies i recommend: batman: mask of the phantasm(this one won a bunch of awards) and superman/batman: public enemies
For some great DC reading, I’d highly recommend the entire Scott Snyder run on Batman. From Court of Owls to Endgame, banger after banger of Batman stories. For something more recent, Tom King’s Superman: Up in the Sky is so good, gets back to Superman’s roots as a mythic solution to impossible problems.
I would love to have Zatana's powers even aside the huge stuff she's done in comics (time travel, reality travel, elemental manipulation, etc) just little things like changing heels into a flat shoe would be so helpful in real life.
captain marvel was the original name but due to copyright conflicts with marvel many people thought shazam was the character´s name from 2011 onwards they renamed the character shazam, which originally was the name of the wizard who gave him his powers
You guys have no idea how lucky you are to not experience what the rest of us experienced when episode 16 first aired all of those years ago. It was one of the most depressing and darkest episodes at the time. It was literally very traumatizing to watch everyone getting killed and it turned out to be another one of Batman’s fucked up tests. The aftermath with each of the group going through therapy with Black Canary was just as damaging and real. Seeing how everyone reacted after the fact that equality sad and depressing.
Check out the Young Justice trades. They share names with the show, but the comic was first. The show is loosely based on the comic. The Harm episode was a brief glimpse into Secert.
Please continue on to season two! The first season is probably the best, it's certainly the most well executed and planned out, but the others certainly have great moments as well. At one point in the video you guys mentioned comic recommendations which haven't been adapted into other mediums. Some of my favorites from DC that meet those criteria include Infinite Crisis and 52. Infinite Crisis leads right into 52 and, it's worth noting that Infinite Crisis benefits from reading Geoff Johns' run on Teen Titans first. That's the comic run which most heavily informed the team composition that we see in this Young Justice series.
Re: Connor's parentage, it looks like you watched episode 22 of Young Justice before watching Reign of the Supermen. As for comics recommendation: there is a DC storyline for Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth.
