Very generous and kind of you! You might be surprised to know that there are cruises (e.g., Carnival and even Royal Caribbean) that are within U.S.$399 per person....or for a 3-night or 4-night cruise for a solo passenger. Off-peak dates.....Caribbean.....yippeee!

They are obviously trying to cut somewhere. Thats the last thing I would cut on is quality of the food, because that's the first thing people will notice.❤❤❤

I’m a Diamond cruiser on Royal and have definitely noticed cutbacks. Our last cruise on Royal was on the Allure and what a major disappointment, nothing close to the experience we had on our first cruise on the Allure some years ago. Sad to say it may be awhile until we cruise Royal again.

Ben, I used to live in Miami, and the best part of the sweltering summer was that daily afternoon tropical thunderstorm. Always refreshing. David, aren’t the packing cubes a miracle? Who knew packing could be efficient and fun? There’s nothing so satisfying as an orderly bag.

I’ve been on several Royal sailings in the last year and the free food has gone way down in quality. The paid options have declined a bit but are comparable to say a Longhorn steakhouse or a Marriott, so you can survive on it at least.

We love Royal, but we are simple people. We are booked on Explorer in 2024, but we purposely booked a balcony cabin on deck 12 forward because they were added later and are slightly more modern. We also like that they walk out onto the pool deck. We booked the same type of cabin on Liberty and loved it.

It's nice to see footage of Port Miami with a full lineup of ships at port, even if it's raining. It always feels exciting to drive to the port and see your ship for the first time! Welcome to Team Packing Cube, David! There's no going back!! As much of an inconvenience that a proper muster drill can be, I agree with Ben that the lack of information provided is concerning. I guess time will tell whether or not it's an appropriate level to convey. Thank you for the tour, guys. I really hope the weather improved for y'all.

Sailing out of Italy on the explorer in 34 days. Beautiful 7 day Mediterranean cruise!!! In the Mediterranean it’s all about the ports and the ship is secondary ☺️. I do agree my past 4 cruises on royal Caribbean the food quality was lower. I’m mostly sad that the production shows are so lame

Royal was our first cruise line - this was years ago. Since then we've always sailed with Celebrity because we love everything about them. We did do a cruise 2 years ago on Freedom of the Seas (themed) and everything about it was just terrible (except for the people we sailed with). So, we'll stick with Celebrity. Glad you still were happy regardless! Happy Cruising!!

We did the transatlantic before the refit. When we entered out cabin, one of the towels was dirty and there was a length of pizza crust by the curtain. I left it there and it didn't move the whole cruise. Food was disappointing, shame because the ship and entertainment is great. One small thing that I think is indicative of the changes. When you walk across the MDR the waiters used to stop to let you pass, now they walk out in front of you.

Completely agree work your comments on the quality of RCCL. I've cancelled 5 Royal cruises this year in favour of NCL. Will give Icon a try next year but I think that could be it!

Great video. That was some seriously cafeteria level food at the buffet. Cabin is completely lacking any Tech and my wife would never except such a dirty room. We don't cruise, but we love to travel. I believe land based travel is quickly becoming a better value for your dollar. We just returned from Las Vegas. Stayed at the Bellagio 5 nights 6 days. Ate at 5 star ristorantes breakfast , lunch and dinner. Rental car flights, room, drinks $ 2600 all in.

Two weeks ago we had a dirty cabin on symphony stains everywhere and on a 6 year old ship. It was my first royal Caribbean cruise and it will probably be my last

We recently went on the Voyager of the Sea. Overall, we enjoyed our first cruise very much. Although our junior suite looked dated, everything worked fine. Their internet service was definitely subpar. We paid so much for it and it was frequently slow.

I sailed on the Explorer back in May and had a great time. My only grumble - I could not get a cup of tea or coffee in a traditional cup and saucer - everything came in a mug ! Sort of ruined the evening meal for me ! I also agree with you that the main dining room menu was abit repetitive and limited - but in the whole it was ok - the steak was blooming marvellous !

Thank you for the review. I was happy to see what the new and larger ships were like. I cruised for 5 years on Holland America to start but moved on to Royal for better “everything”. My favorite ship was Allure. I cruised with others a few times but mostly alone. Someone asked me once if it was lonely on my own. I said no! I can do what I want, when I want. Loved going to Europe the most. Thanks for the mention that the food is poor quality. It never use to be. I ate in main dining room once. Never again. Not a good experience. I stuck to the buffet and never had a bad meal!!

Agree regarding RC food and cutbacks. I’m a huge RC fan (only a handful away from Pinnacle now). It has got noticeably worse this year - the March T/A on SY was worst food I’ve ever had from any cruise but I did still enjoy the cruise overall. I’ve been on a few Anthems sailing so far this year - food and cutbacks still obvious. I’ve reluctantly started buying the dining package (probably what they wanted) so I can still enjoy them. I do somewhat regret my loyalty to royal… hopefully with enough bad feedback they may change but I note on the recent Anthem sailing 60%+ according to C&A are brand new cruisers. Therefore it that’s their market, the new cruisers won’t know any better…..

Here is a thought - RCL have fallen out of love with the Crown & Anchor programme and the Key has replaced it. No loyalty required - but VIP and then be free to jump cruise lines.

I agree with you. We are Diamond + and have noticed the cutbacks, especially the food, since the restart. I agree that perhaps I regret being loyal to Royal. Loyalty doesn't mean the same any longer.

@@VeteranFitnessChannel101 the “perks” with the key are pretty poor. It’s “primarily” just expensive internet with a lunch you could buy separately. Good benefits of C&A are 4/5/6 drinks per day with D, D+ or PC. 150% single supplement rather than 200% I rate the loyalty program - I’m just struggling to rate the product (at least as much as I used to).

You know it's gotten really bad with Royals most loyal fans finally admit it's mediocre. It's really never been that great but now management has become quite shameless in basically serving buffet quality food in MDR working the waiters to death by staff cut backs. People perceive it as some premium brand because of ornate MDR. Royals food offerings are not nearly as good as on Carnivals new ships with no table cloths nor pretense Royal is the "Hyacinth Bouquet" of mass market cruise lines

Great review. You confirmed our decision to only stick to the newer vessels in Odyssey and Oasis class. Normally we steer clear of the buffet and dine in specialty. Even with Royal's newer ships, we have only found the buffet- style food qualiy in the Solarium much better than the Windjammer. We haven't enjoyed the Windjammer in years and avoid it. I will age myself, but at one time, for dinner, the staff would place white tableclothes and cystal on all the tables for dinner in the Windjammer.

We have always loved the Voyager class ships. We haven’t been on Explorer since 2009 when we did a 9-nighter out of Cape Liberty. She’s a beautiful ship, but it stinks that your room was not cleaned properly.

Hi Ben and David. After my very stressful week with Dr. Appointments and needing surgery in less than 2 weeks, my Sunday with the two of you has made me feel better. Easy boarding. The buffet looked like a hot mess! The cabins definitely need a little love. The TV was a good size but should be mounted on the wall to give more vanity space. Ewww, I would be on the phone with guest services to have the cabin properly cleaned and the drapes removed. BTW, what was under the bed when you were showing where you could put your luggage? So glad dinner was better. Except for the portion size. Thank you both for all you do! ❤❤

My last 3 cruises on Harmony, Navigator and Quantum had great food at the buffet: Huge selections, fresh, hot and tasty. Some days were better than others. Navigator actually had the better first day.

Explorer was my favorite ship but I was worried about the amplification in terms of what it was going to do to the front of the ship. I was on the voyager of the sea's last summer and some senior officers used the term wrecked the ship to refer to what the amplification had done to their ship. I enjoyed the original peekaboo bridge section and the great view off the front of that upper section. I know they had planned to remove it from the explorer. I hope you will be giving us that information during your next video. As a diamond member, you get a free day of internet as well as a free picture for each of you, like the welcome aboard picture and maybe, a dinner or posed picture. I hope you know to take advantage of that.

I used to like the voyager class ships when the spa area with the big jacuzzi was on level 11/12. Now they are downstairs - no jacuzzi ( free). And now a rabbit Warren of internal cabins in the old spa area. And the spacious oceanview cabins in that area now limited to 3 or more in a cabin instead of 2 pax. Some also now called suites ( no balconies ) .. money grabbing

What a timely video as we are going on our first two Royal Caribbean cruises in October. And the first will be on Explorer! Sad to hear the buffet was disappointing but good to hear the MDR was pretty good. We know that cruise lines are still finding their feet after the long pause due to the pandemic and we'll just be happy to finally be able to get away on holiday in a few weeks. We are looking forward to it!

Love your videos and candid, yet humorous style! We recently sailed on the Liberty of the Seas on RCL and it was just like your ship. We do like this class of ship, but they definitely need updating. While we love RCL overall, the food quality just continues to disappoint -- we get on board not expecting much in that area and even avoid the "fancy" specialty restaurants since they aren't worth the added $$$. With that said, the staff and crew are always amazing and the best part of any cruise! Cheers!

Just seems like the value for money on cruises keeps decreasing. So much added costs with speciality restaurants and they aren't keeping up the quality of the buffet and other included food options. I mean, the reason I'd pay so much for 7 days is because it's "all inclusive".

Chaps. Another great video. We have very recently come off the Odyssey of the Seas. The Windjammer food was tremendous. In fact, way better than Chops Grille and we can’t see the sense in eating speciality food when we can have that on shore, totally authentic and for far less - and without a waiter driving us mad - for tips. The Windjammer on the Odyssey catered for everyone in our group and nowt like your experience on the Explorer.

Loved the video. We are pretty much loyal Royal Caribbean people. Our all time favorite ship is Harmony of the Seas. WOW what a beautiful, well run ship. Going on it for the 2nd time with son daughter in-law and grandkids in 29 days, but I'm not counting. Lol. Favorite ships in order- Freedom of the Seas, Navigator or the Seas, Independence of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas. We also, do like Norwegian and the Norwegian Sky and Holland America's Noordam. Carnival is 3 strikes your out with us. The only ship we would consider on was the Carnival Victory. Went on it on its maiden year voyage and then again 3 years ago. Oh boy what a difference. Our highlight was Guys Burger Joint. No more Carnival for us. Going on Symphony of the Seas for the first time in January 2024. Can't wait to experience her and place her in the rankings. Amen on the food. The people are great. The ships are great. The cabins are great - even on the older ships. However, we just came off Adventure in July and were VERY disappointed that our bad experience on Allure in November was not an anomaly but a portent. We cancelled a 16 night Panama Canal cruise while ON the July cruise because the thought of over two weeks of school cafeteria food was not appealing. This is a huge disappointment as we have sailed Royal for over 20 years. We are giving them one - and only one - more shot next summer and if the food still stinks we are through with Royal.

Our our experience with the Main Dining Room on Anthem of the Seas has put us off returning to Royal Caribbean. It seems to be fleet wide from what you say. Add Princess pulling previously standard features and it seems like cruise lines are actively wanting to put off customers.

Packing cubes are great to use on the shelves and in drawers in your cabin (especially if it isn’t too clean looking!) That cabin was filthy. I’d be pulling back all the bedding to check the mattress.

After your recent disappointing experiences with mega-ships, it is reassuring that your experience with a smaller, older ship like this matches my own observations and experiences: much better service, better dining experiences, and better overall value for money.....minus the crowds and the overly long queues most of the time. I must add that there is no reason to be left to chance with reservations even for My Time or Any Time dining: you can make your reservations for every day of the cruise long before the cruise....and/or make/update any reservations as soon as you board on Day 1. There is usually a very attentive Supervisor in the Main Dining Room all day taking/amending reservations. I also welcome the big screens on the ships showing (near the elevators on almost every landing) the events for the day and the Dinner menu for the Main Dining Room. This allows you to see what is happening and where at any time of the day or night . . .as well as to preview the evening menu all through the day....and then you can decide whether to go to the Dining Room for the evening....or to cancel your reservation and go to the buffet.
