Ruthless removed everything that made PoE different from diablo and did it in a bad way. Finally there's mode for people to pretend they're playing something hard while in reality there's like 100x less choices to make, skillcap is lower because of it and most of the time you're just identifying stuff and pressing one button.

I haven't played Ruthless, but as someone who played the game way back before it's release and saw all of the updates as they were implemented throughout the years: while Ruthless sounds awful and like a major step in the wrong direction, I do believe the game has gotten a little out of control considering where it originally started. Potentially heavy-handed, but I'd say this is more in line with how the game could have been if they took a different approach to the development/implementation of core game mechanics from challenge leagues. I do think they should take a good look at what mechanics are too "strong" for this game mode and instead consider dialing back the power of certain mechanics, like crafting for example, instead of outright removing them entirely (unless I misunderstood, I believe that is what they did with certain features). This way it may not feel as scarce in its removal of game features, while still allowing players to make meaningful choices with their limited drops with what is still made available. Maybe do some kind of community poll on what league mechanics people think should NOT be removed for QOL purposes and character customization while still increasing the difficulty and showcasing this "vision" of the game with these watered down or earlier/reworked builds of league features. Not sure if that makes much sense at all but I think it could potentially be an idea.. Without first hand experience, all I understand is that everything is much more tedious.

@@John_Doe13 lowkey agree with this, but since its an optional game mode i think its fine. kind of gives the diablo 2 lovers a way to play diablo 2 without dealing with immunities (even with the new sunder charms), right? although i will say, if youre less reliant on gear to carry you through fights, you have to compensate with skill. knowledge is less impactful though, as there are less things to be knowledgeable in (removed league mechanics, simplified/tuned down atlas tree, slower gameplay with less mob types to identify and reduced pack sizes to deal with)

The most interesting thing brought up I think is that it would be worthwhile to have actual party members all as different roles but not necessarily specialized. Where your party should consists of 4 completely different builds that can somehow help one another. Not an actual aura stacker but someone playing more of a support role etc.

Yeah, like playing around with monster speed (chill, temp chains, anything that gives less speed), another with decoy totem ... these kind of stuff. I also would love party play with the Link skills

This is effectively what Lost Ark is, where support classes can actually heal and buff through doing their moves. I've always thought group "dungeon" content in an ARPG would be cool if done right, but what do I know.

I find it ironic that Ruthless for streamers feels like a general PoE experience for "casuals" at least drop-wise - most loot comes from trades, struggle to sustain maps, 1-2 regals, very few alches and scours, crafting isn't really a thing, mediocre rares can't really be replaced in a reasonable time, etc. GGG nailed it, but it shows the same basic issues with the game people were complaining about for leagues.

Map sustain hasn't been a problem for years if you're just playing the game. Run maps and you get enough maps. Crafting not really being a thing for casuals is definitely true though, and trade being the one real upgrade path aside from *really* lucky loot...

Something I haven't seen many meleers do, STATIC STRIKE! Keeping the Static Strike buff up while leveling feels soooo good. It only lasts a few seconds, but while it's up you get passive area damage around you which smooths out leveling quite a bit.

Main problem is that trade and ssf have same problemsolving. When: " But you can buy it" is the solution , ssf is fu...ed. When solution is, stuff is easier the find or craft all traders a pi...ed that the econemy gets hurt.

But ssf is a challenge league. It's supposed to be harder than the normal (trade league) poe experience. Poe at its core isn't a game where you should be able to drop everything. Some leagues you might drop insanely rare uniques, other leagues you might not. The game isn't and shouldn't be balanced around ssf.

@@judaszuechtung1085 I can totally see Chris liking ssf. In pretty much every interview i saw in which he talked about overall gameplay he always seemed to enjoy "fighting against the odds", and ssf is pretty much that. Ssf is about adapting to rng rather than picking a build and being able to roll with it regardless of your drops. If you haven't watched it yet i would highly recommend watching Chris' GDC talk about path of exiles design choices. In it he goes into the importance of item value which play into the whole rarity/ssf debate.

Everything should be doable as a ssf and you should be able to get perfect items ssf, the game should not have such economy at all, it should be fun foremost. I dont want to trade to have the best items i want to craft them or get them droped with enought time spend farming, and i want enought currency to be able to craft 1 really awesome item in 2-3 week period. Time spend on the game should be valuable, atm it is not.

I think its because of essences. Their rewards doesn't scale with map tier, so while running lower tier maps you will run more maps per hour, therefore getting more essences (and being far easier). With changes to harvest, essences are one of the main crafting methods (if you can essence spam on a fractured base for 2x guaranteed mods). And since good essences aren't lvl locked, T1 maps are good to farm upgrades for items that will be usable in uber bosses.

@@josesalasblasco1689 I think for HC its even more worth because of the dangers of doing hard content (idk, I'm playing SC). For trade league at least, paying 2c for the map craft of +2 essences was super good currency per map with little atlas passive tree. A total of like 3-4 essences monsters guaranteed, most of them duplicating. You probably get like 10-20c out of each map just in essences (early in the league). And the chance to duplicate a touched mob XD

I think what they did with atlas passive tree is mostly how it should be. The amount of juice you get out of atlas passives, in the regular game, would seem way too much for ruthless, but the player choice of having a passive tree is nice.

Removing Metamods is a TERRIBLE Idea! I love to think about the order in which I am crafting my items at and which mods I block at what point. Taking that away makes crafting a lot less fun. In previous leagues planning how to min-max my gear with crafting every single piece of my gear myself kept me playing and enjoying the league 2-3 months. I don't want the system to be simplified down to exalting, annulling and scouring. The complex itemisation is what makes PoE great for me so if we lose that it would make me very sad. Recombinators were amazing and opened up a new layer of crafting so hopefully GGG brings them back at some point. Definitely agree that crafting is in a bad place and the biggest problem right now due to quantity of currency, divine changes and the ruin of harvest. Solution: Revert Harvest and bring back Recombinators! Another topic: Archnemesis was NEVER a problem to me and after the nerfs in a pretty good place but the lootgoblins made the game unenjoyable

23:50 that's exactly why I stopped playing trade league , I finish the league in the first 2 weeks, getting an extra -10 sec kill on boss feels like it isn't worth the time and having mageblood for two leagues just kinda kills the league entirely .

some stuff is just to much i think. why disable the crafting bench if you dont get any currency to use it anyway? just some unnecessary restrictive stuff. i see the appeal of the mode beeing happy about a damn alteration but a crafting bench wouldnt hurt

nah crafting bench allow crafting resist on gear which cost transmutes which are quite plenty even in ruthless, its the alch, chaos and regals that are very short on supply. And that craft is already too convenient unless they change it to alch instead but they wont cos it will most likely affect other modes.

I miss the old CoffeeTalk podcast with Nugi and... forgethisname, it was just chatting about PoE and I like it more than larger group podcasts. I'd love to see more regular videos where you and Nugi just chat about something PoE related and you can just play in the background or whatever. Nugi is pretty good at articulating his ideas, there are some great knowledgeable players/streamers but hard to find ones that can carry a conversation well. I am looking forward to Ruthless and i think it is in a pretty good place atm given the low amount of development work/testing to date. It still needs a lot of work and i expect the first few iterations to be pretty rough but it will eventually be my preferred mode.

Cool impromptu podcast. I think ruthless will be a fun thing to mess around with and keep going back to. I don't think it something that I would ever league start, but when I need to take a break from the league or character for a bit, going to ruthless and doing some things there could be fun.

I think they should put this in place, to maintain an interesting endgame play in ruthless with minor changes : as long as you own an alch, you can start alching maps without consuming an alch, and as long as you own a vaal orb you can corrupt them without consuming the vaal. Or have a very low chance of consuming the alch/vaal (no idea how often you can expect to get one from a map on average, but make it so that if you drop an alch on average every 20 map, then you have 1/30 or so chance of consuming an alch when alching a map).

Movement skills are the main reason I play PoE. Other skills can be found in other ARPG, but PoE had the best movement combo in the genre.

@@firebat36 I actually like it a lot more when zoom-zoom aren' t as prevalent as it is now (nobody can see anything on the screen especially in party-play) where no one rush into maps and beating Merciless Dominus was the endgoal. It is player' s knowledge that made the game goes faster, not the developers. That' s how GGG could not dial it back, no matter how hard they try, so they made this mode. In all honesty, the way these two described PoE without movement skills, it sound like playing Diablo II.

I wish I could recommend the game to friends, most of them who've tried it have stopped pretty soon after. It still has terrible new player experiences, especially leveling, crafting, and scaling into later game

I'm excited for ruthless, but melee builds might be insanely rough to play due to heavy item dependance. I mainly play melee builds so this hurts. The lack of movement skills makes it feel smoother due to not hitting a movement ability in between each skill use. Skill -movement skill - skill - movement skill, etc just makes for a trash game experience.

Melee has a ton of problems in the base game. Playing melee in POE is rough unless you play a "melee" skill like cyclone of VLS.

That none of those streamers will start playing 100% on ruthless because making fun content is their job and if they decide to play something boring they lose their fanbase and end up basically unemployed. They like to talk shit about the normal drop and say they rutless is great but not even them are willing to play that garbage of a league. They are like the cryptobro trying to convince you to spend all your money on NFT when they dont actually do it.

To me it seems like you don't have "less things" to trade in Ruthless, you just have different things to trade. Stuff like random magic items suddenly has value and becomes a trade commodity, or a decent rare you identified, etc. You have the same amount of things to trade, if not more, it's just a different variety of items.

27:10 - that is exactly how I feel is the most unfortunate side effect of PoE. I just wish it was a game where everyone could mostly be equally powerful in a group - and that was just as optimal as aura botting to simply play different classes together. Instead I fear it is going to be even worse moving forward though with curses being generally stronger as well, opening up for yet another unbelievably strong support. Giving other people the current power through auras should drain your HP equal to one righteous fire per aura - then I'd be on board. Make the default aura effect to others be 5-10% instead of 100% - stacking aura effect then becomes crucial instead of overpowered. Make them insanely difficult to achieve, somehow, please, do something cool with what is currently simply multiplying another player's abilities and nothing else. Make curses applicable to party members too, creating the need for more skill and early curse immunity. Maybe even make curses sometime damage you instead of applying the curse. Make aura siphoning rares that benefit from your auras too rendering them incredibly incredibly incredibly difficult. If you want to achieve a broken playstyle - the journey there should be a challenge in my opinion.

They put crafting into the league mechanics because they *know* crafting brings in players (who want to craft), but it also means that it's very easy for them to take the crafting AWAY if they think it is too strong.

It was actually a blast. They get so excited for even a rare item during leveling. So many more decisions to make and deciding if something is an upgrade, side grade, or a downgrade that is still worth taking.

this mode really is only for streamers and students, poe is already a game that asks a massive time investment, but if you play efficiently you can do a lot with moderate play time, but in this mode, it seems like it's basically impossible to get anywhere unless you play 3+ hours a day

I don't agree with nugiyen saying the lack of movement skills "opens up the game" at all. It very much does the opposite. It might prompt you to get creative with your build design to overcome the added challenge, and it might prompt you to respect enemy abilities more, but far too many build archetypes are rendered inviable for endgame because the game, as nugi admits only minutes later, is balanced around having movement skills.

I guess I just don't understand why they removed movement skills in ruthless. The rest of the mode other than movement skills seems to have one vision in mind; with the scarcity of items, dropping potential upgrades and I love that. No movement skills is a completely separate challenge, and I can see how a mode without them would be interesting in new ways like they mention with making boss fights more interesting etc. But it feels like 2 different modes; the scarcity one, and the no movement skill one, smashed together.

But instead there is a whole new game option called ruthless (which is fine) and they still enable log out macro. Ruthless is not the term i would use for that.

@@Uelibertiga How does a macro, that you don't have to use, effect your gameplay? You can choose not to use it. You can also menu fast, or alt f4, power your PC down etc Game is what you make it, stop asking a company to hold your hand in crafting a personalized experience. You can even play SSF or HC style rules while in trade. You are never restricted to make your own decisions to have fun

@@wtfwasthat16 It affects my gameplay by balancing monster encounters around it existing. I am sure we would have a way better balance in fights when there was not a panic escape button.

@@Uelibertiga I have never used a logout macro, but to think monsters are balanced around that is insane. The option is there and allowed by GGG, but to think they crafted archnemesis thinking "this is okay because of a macro" is wild. 2 things can be true at the same time 1. Monster arch nemesis combo can be overtured and was a failed launch 2. Macro exist in the game as an option you can use

What else PoE is better without? -Movement skills (so whoever is better mechanically can outperform in many different layers) -League mechanics (so whoever gains knowledge faster can outperform in many differerent layers, sure it's artificial but how else are you going to differentiate from other ARPGs) -Crafting (so whoever is better at analyzing crafting combos can't outperform whoever can't) -Build diversity (just pick up items from the ground and work with whatever you got, come on. No need to outperform people who are bad at build planning) Good thing we got 10 years of never ending evolvement of ARPGs to come down to a game where you pick up items from the ground, identify them and press your main skill. Yeah, I'd rather go back to diablo than play a diabloclone (which poe is going to become without everything that made it different from diablo) Sincerely, a HCSSF player. Ruthless is a joke.

How do you appreciate finding a single alteration when you know that a single alt is useless? You need at least a few dozen to get something maybe OK out of either a flask or a jewel or one mod on a chest and aug-regal - but you don't have regals and benchcraft. To me it would be just a neusence. Yay, I found something rare that is useless because it's not meant to be rare and the game is balanced around it being common.

@@markototev if you actually watched the gameplay you could see that some maps cost alteration orbs, so there's a use for it. I guess some other items can cost alts too. If you transmute your map to have a mod that bricks it for you, you can have a a chance at rerolling it. I can keep going forever.

Delete Quick Silver. It is Stamina in disguise. In exchange, delete speed debuffs. There is too many of them in the game.

Not a fan of having a 'podcast' while playing. If you can't even be bothered to pay attention to the conversation, why should I listen to what you have to say? I remember seeing Balor play while he was on a podcast and I thought it was really unprofessional. Of course this is a different format, but I still don't enjoy it.

the removal of movement skills give different gameplay and feel of danger, the lack of mobility creates difference in choosing classes. Witch is good. Melee should use leap slams not allwayse flame dash. There should be a big penalty for marauder using int skills and atm in poe there isnt. Also the lack of mobility will create different meta.

Then game will change overall and for everyone to something that is closer to stuff that was long ago. Basically reverting years of constant league content layering. Constant powercreep also isn't healthy btw. Sometimes ends must be cut down, or design will start crumbling on itself, like Yu-Gi-Oh card power level grew with time. For example, i can appreciate people going for min-max and zoomies in SC. But i also thinks that spirit of game actually suffers from this. Because in the end you stop caring about anything except speed and samey grind. Granted, Ruthless assumes no easy league content, as it would make things too casual. Also, don't forget it is just a side project, made in devs own free time, so you should not worry.

Reminder to blame these streamers for all this promotion of how “PoE is so much better” as Ruthless mode. Chris Wilson gone implement these changes piece by piece into PoE 2 and use these streamers hyping it up as the justification. Hope you have 100 hours to grind for a 4 link item with 9 life.

@@Zizaran most of it, but y’all should know better than to praise this trash mode at all with the way PoE has been going the last couple years. Chris Wilson wants PoE to be Ruthless mode, and having influencers like you guys giving it praise saying “this is so much better than I thought it would be! Yes less items is amazing in trade, no movement skills is genius, no crafting bench and no support gem access is THE BEST” will be used in talks as justification to nerf/remove even more stuff from the core game. With this kind of feedback you end up with a game where Nugiyen fights an archnemesis mob for 10 minutes and all that drops is a fencer helm.

Poe is balanced around players having movement gems both from the time consumption and ''difficulty'' aspect so claims that the game would be improved without them sound like a bunch of nonsense to me. If it were a game balanced around not having movement gems, then sure. But thats not poe.

TBH after seeing streamers playing ruthless all my excitement for the game mode died. I was sincerely expecting it to be hard to reach maps, really disgustingly hard to reach maps. But in 3 days they already landed on cold dot being the best build. After that, I don't see ruthless much more harder that ssf, just less content.

Please do not let GGG hear that less movement skills makes anything more interesting, this is how you kill this game, by saying dumb things like this. Please let me taste ultimatum league's pace, I was doing end-game bosses in 48 hours of brutally optimized gameplay, and I played for ~1 month extra helping my friends, min-maxing, trying out new builds, etc. Why can not be that the etalon for gameplay, the fun gameplay for softcore, why should we stick to 1 crappy build and be stuck in white maps due to lower and lower loot quantities? Kalandra was the deepest point I had in 5 years of PoE, happy to see the new league is promised to be somewhat different, but still skeptical. Thank you for reading, hope the message goes through. :)

@@KairoStark But it is not worth it for them financially if they lose all of their player base due to some narrow minded patches. Still no idea why they do what they do. I know they are not a cash-grab company, but this way, if they continue giving a crap on the general opinion they will get some crap on themselves. We all know that their patches are crap and not popular choices at all, nobody wants them. We want new league mechanics to explore, new items to build better and faster characters. Yes you sometimes have to pull the brakes, so that people don't clear out your content in 2 hours, but a league is at least 2-4 weeks for even the most expert players in this state of the game. I simply can not understand why do they want to make their game less fun for the general audience. Thank you for reading.
