Eggs in Europe are found in paper containers and not in the fridge because in Europe the laws and quality standards are more restrictive than in the USA and allow for farms with better hygienic conditions, such as to be able to guarantee safety for the consumer even without the disinfectant wash. In the USA breeding is allowed in hygienic conditions below European standards, but then the eggs are disinfected with bleach to ensure that they are not dangerous to humans. Bleach compromises the biological integrity of the shell and that is why eggs must be kept in the fridge. In the USA intensive farms with crushed hens in cages are very common, in Europe it is almost impossible to see things like this and if you find one it is certainly outlawed. In the USA it is perfectly legal instead. Furthermore, there are various types of farming in Italy: On the ground and indoors, on the ground with an open area, organic. The last type produces eggs that are of the best quality. Obviously they cost a little more. For olive oil there are various types: virgin olive oil (the worst quality), extra virgin olive oil with olives from European countries (namely Greece and Spain and France, of intermediate quality) and finally extra virgin olive oil produced with Italian olives (the best quality). This is for oils with large-scale winds and which can be found in supermarkets. Locally produced oils with very diversified characteristics and unquestionable quality are another matter. Of course, the cost is another story. Generally (for the same quantity, ie. liter bottles) it is approximately double that of extra virgin olive oil with Italian olives.

compared to the prices in Canada ..Italy was way more inexpensive ..way more ..this past summer was the cheapest Italian vacation EVER
@cerchiamo

Thanks for watching. The € was down this year. I also believe that the prices are related to the sources. In the US, so much of the meat and produce travels 1000s of miles to get to the store shelves. It’s not that way in Italy from out experience.

Loved your video, really appreciated it. My mom came to the USA from Abruzzo. Got to see a modern Italian supermarket. Just one thing-please try to pan your camera more slowly. The quick pans were sometimes dizzying, also wanting me to know more about what you filmed. Still, a great video! Grazie tante!

Nice video and nice explanations, but there are some inaccuracies that I would like to correct in order to let the viewer know the correct information. First of all, Conad is the largest company in the Italian large-scale retail trade, it is in first place, it is the most important and best-known company with the largest number of shops. There are Conad supermarkets and hypermarkets or superstores. The one you went to is a “Spazio Conad” hypermarket and that's the reason why you found not only food, but also electrical appliances, books, toys, etc. In Conad supermarkets, on the other hand, you can find pretty only food.

Thank you for watching and providing some clarification. We did have the opportunity to visit some of the other stores with my family in Tuscany, including the pet store. I was impressed to learn that the store we visited sells local meats and those unique or more common in that region. The the US, we never know how many miles our meat travels before it hits the grocery store. It tell this though, it’s not local. Hope to hear from you again!

@@cerchiamo Yes they are great and as we stay in Puglia long spells of time (home base Ireland) we shop there all the time...we used to have a huge Auchan supermarket near Brindisi to shop in but they have left Puglia...of course being a northern European Lidl would cater for lots of pruducts from there...but we do try to mostly 'be' Italian...😂

Hi, I've to explain you better the sweet matter... In Italy, brioches are strictly for brekfast or for a sweet snack for kids after the school in the afternoon (merenda); if you have some one pass by, you offer, with coffe , buisquits or cakes... I would like to let you know te machine that you can use to fry food without oil , it's somthing that help to reduce calories but not the taste..it's name is "friggitrice ad aria"

Trying to convert American recipes For recipes calling for American large egg in Italy is the medium egg or large closest have you found ? Found different opinions (with medium usually being the smallest size sold in Europe and large the smallest/beginning egg size in USA )
@cerchiamo
@cerchiamo 8 месяцев назад
Hi! Thanks for watching. We have not had to use eggs for any specific recipes yet. You want to consider using a kitchen scale. The average weight of a medium egg in the US is 1.75oz. Hope that’s helps 😀! Let us know!

Love the videos! In Florida, do they bring groceries to the car for you? I've lived in NJ, NY, TX and NC, and no one brings them to the car in these states, unless you're handicapped or need help.
@cerchiamo
@cerchiamo Год назад
Thanks for watching Mike. One of the biggest chain grocery stores in Florida is Publix. The service of bringing the groceries to the car has always been one of their core services. In fact, the employees are not even allowed to accept tips. Over the past 20 years more customers prefer to bring the groceries to the car themselves. The employees will always ask.

Can I afford to live in Abruzzo if my US pension is only $1,200 a month?

Thank you for watching! This is what we learned and confirmed online. “You need a minimum annual passive income of €31,000 as a single person, while the amount rises to €38,000 for married couples (you must provide a marriage certificate).” Hope this helps 😀
