Just a suggestion - it would be really cool for you to invite local artists on EACH episode to highlight Hawaiian culture/history.....kinda how you plug in your sponsors. It would be a nice way to give back to the land/ppl without being performative.

@@jl7998 hiii. Sorry, I have anxiety and I feel so scared when I think about living away from the city. It is kind of a dream, but I also get so anxious about not having neighbors, or nearby emergency shops. Or when I feel down, does it take really long to reach other people? I can see their place is so isolated. We have islands in our country but usually there are huts or tourists. I just really wanna learn more about your islands because I had a panic attack watching the introoo 😅
@@mia9833 oh there are lots of ppl on the island. There are malls and shopping centers all over the island. It seems remote but it's not. Oahu has a decent public transportation system. So it's like a small town just more island vibe. They can get everything they need.
As an islander, you need to take in account that typhoons are frequent in this area of the world. Make sure you guys have shutters and that your house won’t fly 🙃
Yes good point I live Australia and in the tropics there are cyclones Hurricane to that stuff so my house up in the tropics (I live in the act) has to have stuff in case of those
I grew up in Hawaii and it is interesting to see a lot of influencers moving there now.. I am excited for you guys because getting out of the city and moving to such a beautiful place truly is the dream. I hope, as always, you take into consideration the culture and love that the people have for the island
Just adding to this that I hear a lot of complaints about house prices rising and pushing out locals in Hawaii, but in this case this massive 6 bedroom house was obviously already out of most people's budgets (even Mr Kates!) AND is super outdated and not in great condition, so I'm glad Mr Kate will be fixing it up and not just demolishing it to build another super mansion
I really hope you guys take time to learn and Embrace the Hawaiian culture! The island is very expensive to get things shipped too, it’s paradise, but a lot of natives will never get the opportunity you have
This can be said about any person that moves anywhere… not just Hawaii and I don’t think everyone moves to Hawaii and forgets to think about what life will be like… most of them are moving there because they want to enjoy it and embrace it… northerners move south because they love being warm and the southern culture…east coast people move to the west coast for a slower pace… skiers move where the best powder is… gamblers move to Vegas and retirees move to where the taxes are better let’s just enjoy the journey with them… they are such and amazing little family and much needed distraction during this time of unrest!!! ☺️
I would LOVE to see you guys re-build the pool as a naturally filtered pool - essentially, with a verge/boundary of naturally water-cleaning plants, so you don’t need to use chlorine! Better for you, better for the environment, & a great way to save money, long-term. Beyond that, it would be totally rad to get in touch with local artisans & find out what they think would contribute to the island’s aesthetic, without being culturally appropriative. You guys get to learn a bunch about indigenous Hawaiians, we get to see amazing local artisans, it’s win-win!
As an islander, I’m interested to see how they can accomplish a whole renovations with limited options and shipping delays. Not to mention the S L O W W W W W island way of life.
They will most likely make a massive order for all their supplies at once and stock up in advance for future projects and probably bring their team from LA
As someone whose family is Hawaiian, cockroach infestation was kind of a given 😂 just a small thought- in addition to locally sourced materials, definitely make sure you guys look into what locals do for weatherproofing their structures! The constant water is no joke and I would hate for any beautiful wood to rot 🙈
Good luck y'all. Getting supplies shipped to the island not only takes forever but is also hella expensive. Living in paradise isn't as simple as a lot of people think it is.
Omg! I loved watching your budget videos & wished you guys were able to come to Hawai’i! Maybe after the house reno you guys could explore doing makeovers for the locals. Some families are in dire need of help since Hawai’i is expensiveeee. Surviving in Hawai’i is almost impossible so I know the locals would definitely appreciate it. Food for thought, love you guys 🤍

That is totally our dream! A live stream, a garden, a place to have chickens 🐓, a place to paddle board, kayak, and snorkel close by …. So happy for y’all!!! We have an acre in Georgia and are getting ready to plant some fruit trees and berry bushes for a food forest, we built a fort / rock climbing wall for kiddos in 2020 so some of the boxes are checked but being close the the ocean for water adventures would be awesome!
So, given that there is so much vegetation I suggest getting ducks instead of chickens. Chicken poop does not decompose and burns plants. Duck eggs are healthier and tastier, they're very smart and social, and far less annoying than chickens. Rabbits would also be a good option. They're poop is excellent fertilizer and they are natural foragers. Bottom line, PLEASE get some rescue animals. This would be paradise for them 😍🌊⛰️🌺
I agree with the suggestion of grttings Ducks!. I recommend Runner Ducks for anyone who sees this #StopDuckDumping My ducks are very Intelligent, affectionate and hilarious! 😂😂😂 they do poop A LOT. but i don't mind the poop outside because it literally deteriorate with water.
The issue with rabbits at least domestic ones, should not be kept outdoors and not in tight spaces. They need at least 3 hours of free time outside of a cage or hutch if they are not free roam (though no PET rabbit should live in a hutch or (small) cage)
@@3arthIsGhetto Unless they changed the laws recently or never checked out our backyard, bunnies aren't illegal in Hawaii. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and my friend and uncle had bunnies. I see why you might question their legality though, since a lot of animals and even foliage are not allowed to be brought into the islands.

@@conservachick100 I can imagine that, but you can still get things shipped to you even if it’s to a far away pickup center. So many things can’t be air flown. Like if the fulfillment center is in Illinois, it can be shipped to you via ground, but “ground” shipping to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US virgin island and even Alaska (for some reason) is via air which limits what can and cannot be sent to us. It’s so beyond frustrating.

Yes! Was kind of disappointed to see another RU-vid move to Hawaii to “live in paradise” but I hope they respect and honor local culture as much as they can and should.
This is their first episode back so it makes sense for them to show us the house, but I agree they should show some of the culture and the people and how they do things (reno wise) there.

@@itsjusbre9920Fortunately, I've been watching them over manyy years on RU-vid, and he's been doing that as long as I can remember. There's some things you just can't fake or play off. You can tell when it's natural and from free will, as opposed to forced, or something you try not to forget.
I think making the pool a salt water pool would tie in nicely. My uncle in arizona has a salt water pool with a beautiful fountain/slide feature. It would also probably be easier to take care of year round. Also maybe extend some part of the house for a little green house / sun room type thing as part of the indoor-outdoor.

I would add a good thickness of insulation on that roof to prevent overheating so you can live as sustainably as possible. Looking forward to seeing the transformation. Congratulations on your new home! Permits do take a long time to pull in Hawaii. My uncle is a contractor there and he also built our family home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Cockroaches are the unofficial Hawaii state bird. LOL! I would suggest that with that outdoor shower, you make a way to totally close it off in bad weather or mosquito season. That being said, your property is an amazing find and I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

You guys have got to do a game room! Pool table, ping pong, darts, and maybe even a little tiki bar. You could even put the whole room near the pool or just the tiki bar by the pool! And then a separate game room. Love this new direction for you guys. I'm so invested already!
Make sure the first thing you do is get the fence around the pool checked and fixed if it's not sturdy. With Moon running around, you need to make absolutely certain that he can't accidentally walk into the pool area without you watching.
Pools are scary with little ones. Our youngest was 12 when we bought a house with a pool. Even with everyone watching there have been a couple of scary times with younger nephews. I also grew up having a pool, we take all precautions. It definitely takes eagle eye and sometimes it’s still a bit scary
This is the best that you can give to your child! Btw, I actually like the tile color on the roof. It is kinda scenic when you get an aerial view! Blue green ocean, blue pool and the blue-green roof!

@@shyh175 I doubt that, this is a perfect home for kids once they’ve done it up. A lot of parents that choose the parenting style they do love the outdoor aspect that Hawaii has to offer
@@mahinacobian4827 but after their renovations are done will they have much more opportunities for content here? I know there are a handful of influences living here (as far as I know) that they could potentially collaborate with but if RU-vid is one of their main sources of income living here long term is probably not in their plans. While their parenting style might be similar to what a lot of younger generations are starting to use, the lifestyle (in general) might not be for them 🤷♀️
That's how I moved from Cali to south carolina! I never seen the house in person until I came here to move in! Best time ever!! 1000% would do it all over again!!
There is an entire known controversy with non islanders buying property on the islands. I’m cringing at this BUT I hope they’re able to support native Hawaiian businesses.
I want to be happy for you all, but as someone from an island herself… get ready for so many companies not wanting to ship to you or it costing waaaay more and so many struggles. It’s hard. It can be wonderful, but it can also be really hard. Best of luck.
@@maitei7 Puerto Rico también (also!). But I’ve also lived in the states and then gone back and then back to the states, so I have a very well experienced perspective. Visiting tropical islands is one thing, living in them is a whole other thing entirely. 🥴

I don’t feel like bragging about upping the price in a neighborhood when housing is already unaffordable is something to be excited about? And then moved to an island when indigenous people have asked us to stop doing things like this
Well, they invested a LOT of time and money, so they deserve to reap the rewards. However, I’m sure that rising housing prices also played an additional factor in this, which is not as thrilling ☹️
