Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries before 2020 and all 7 continents, we have no plans to slow down anytime soon, and we are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Important safety TIP: When using the gas stove inside a closed space van, ALWAYS have proper ventilation to avoid Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. It is a silent killer. Alternatively get an electric cooker/instant pot, or the van might have any safety exhaust kit I dont know of. Please upvote this answer for them to see this.

You've got free electric, use an electric kettle to boil water then pour it into a saucepan, don't waste propane!

That's such a HUGE step that you guys bought a van "virtually" sight unseen. From a BIG HOUSE with 5 bedrooms to a snug van! :) There really is so much of America that people fly over and never see (including us from NYC, since we had the same mindset to travel internationally), can't wait for you to show it all off!

Though it is likely too late for this comment, my recommendation is to take the van on a trip for a week or two -- maybe go out camping in a National or State Park. Get to know the van better, what works for you and what doesn't. You will likely learn that some of the things that you want to do aren't a great idea and come up with new ideas that really help you get the van so it will fit your life better. Congrats on this new adventure, it will be exciting (once things pick up again) to see you try and visit the various states in the US.

@Jeanette Perez yes, but in a van they were renting, in a van where they weren't able to change anything. Now they're in a van that they've bought, that's Theirs, that will be their home basically until they are able to travel full time again. It's a good suggestion; if they haven't done it already, they'd be able to have a test run to see what they would want to change permanently, what works and what doesn't, what design stuff would get on their nerves and what doesn't, ect Before they spend the money to do the the changes that they've just Thought about :)

Maybe go on some small road trip and visit several landmarks, like arches nation park and Yellowstone. It would be less exotic but very entertaining still

Word of warning. Having lived in a small holiday trailer, I can assure you that, on a hot summer day, that stovetop will turn your van into a blast furnace. I strongly recommend getting an induction burner if your electrical system can support it, or at least a coleman range to use outdoors. A propane BBQ with a side burner would also work but sometimes you are going to need more than one element.

It’s easy to ship vehicles from the west coast to Hawaii. Depending on how long you stay in Hawaii it can be cheaper to ship your own vehicle. Car rentals in Hawaii can be expensive especially on the big island. I just shipped a Jeep last month from Hilo to LA. I used Matson, total cost was 1,100. Consider car rental and Hotel it would be far cheaper if they were to stay a month in Hawaii.

And the fact that they all have Sprinters isn't a good thing. Several Sprinters RU-vidrs including Eamon and Bec have reported major problems and breakdowns with them. Eamon and Bec had their engine broken down in Mexico and were basically begging on RU-vid to cover repair costs for them.

Tip: copper pots & pans heat up way faster than others. They are heavy so they’d have to be secured down when travelling or they could become a missile. Adding salt also helps water boil quicker😊

Since international travel seems to be problematic for the next year or so, I have also considered becoming a road warrior for a while. In my opinion, a professionally built Class B or Class C RV makes more sense than a self modified van. Prices of used RVs really aren’t that bad. Did you look into that option, and if so, why did you select the home-built version?

Awesome!!!!! Your van is amazing!!!!! Love the build - they did an awesome job. I traveled internationally during my 20 years in the military and all last year with Remote Year - then Covid! So I just bought a van as well to travel my own country! I've got a Winnebago Travato, National Park Edition. I felt very adult as well.

They had significant problems with the van after purchasing it. I wonder if K&N followers were doxxing the van owners or something so they blurred them out? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure when this was originally posted they weren't blurred.

When I originally watched this video the photos of the couple who sold the van weren’t blurred. Kara and Nate had a lot of problems with the van so I’m thinking the couple who sold the van received a lot of hate

If you want to remodel your bed, so you don't have to convert it everyday, have a look how Eamon & Bec did there's . . . they kept the bed longways but had part of it that turned into a lounge back!

So happy for you. Looking forward to your new adventures! I know you get advice all the time, pls forgive my small tip. I live tiny home life, forget propane. Induction cook-top that you can stow away is awesome. Water boils SO MUCH faster! Im removing my propane burners and gaining counter space.
