Congratulations on buying such a beautiful house. Yes keep doors to the kitchen open fire, stops animals coming in. Will be interesting to learn a bit more about the laws of rebuilding a property in Italy as I understand they have quite strict rules?
Yes, it's very strict. Everything external needs to be approved, by then local municipality and, in our case, by the local medieval village committee. That's why our next job is to select a geometra who will draw up plans that can be submitted
A beautiful little house full of potential. There are so many elements already in place that are a source of inspiration for the next decoration, especially when it comes to colours. Enjoy!
Hi guys, congratulations on your beautiful home, looking forward to see what you do, those doors to the beautiful fireplace should come off, such a lovely feature hidden away. Good luck guys 😊
A splendid property guys. Congratulations! I bought and renovated remotely, great that y’all get to be a bit more hands on. I look forward to following your progress!
New subbie here, I am loving the property and the attic space WOW so much you could do, I would look into removing the floor in the largest area and create a Mezzanine it would sure open the place up, Good luck and look forward to your new adventure xxxxx Dede
What a beautiful home. Looking forward to watching all your Reno’s . Wishing g you the best in your new home. My plan is to come to Italy in a year and find a rental for a month.
Charmy and cosy house. Great "cementine" floors!! A lot to do in the kitchen. Good idea to have a kitchen downstairs so you can eat out most of the time. Because that's what you want to do when in Italy. I suggest you might build a small porch on that side of the house.
@@stuartandpaul The ground floor is likely to have problems of humidity, so you might consider to place a multilayer floor and a special net to insulate thr floor and the walls.
Nice place! You are very brave to go into the basement and attic, I would be very afraid of snakes and spiders! I live in Canada and I have going into my shed on a summer day for fear of finding a spider, lol
Oh wow just sat down to watch the whole vid. What a gorgeous house I just love it. I'm sure it's going to look stunning. How did you get on with the Chesnuts. I'm interested if you're thinking of living in Italy full time. Best of luck guys looking forward to joining in with your journey.
We're going to divide our time at the moment as we can only spend 90 days out of every 180 in Europe (Brexit!) but we hope to get around that within a year or so as we have an Italian citizenship claim in. Fingers crossed 🤞
@stuartandpaul That's brilliant when we lived in France we were surrounded by them it was a big thing there. We always used to go up to our elderly neighbour for roasted chestnut feasts!
That's quite a big subject, but in general you need to allocate about 10% of the agreed price for fees and legal work. In our case it was just under. I'll try to do a video on the buying process soon
So happy for you both - it must feel so amazing. Really glad Instagram algorithm helped me find you early on!! I think you might be actually living my dream!! Cant wait to continue watching your journey with this, thank you for letting us all be a part of it 🥹 I have so many questions though!!
Craziness is just madness waiting to be organised. As for feeling out of your depth - well that just means you’re about to learn to swim in deeper waters. Think of us viewers as your pretty little lifeboats, rowing along side you :) looking forward to next video already!!
What a lovely farm house and the land around it,it’s in very good condition will make a nice project well done lads.I will subscribe to watch your progress.
You need a wood burner in that kitchen fire place. Take those dreadful cupboard doors off the fireplace. Had the same thing on our fireplace. Lovely, tranquil home. Will enjoy your journey.
BENVENUTI IN ITALIA ❤Congratulations Stuart and Paul on your lovely country home. It's in awesome condition for an older home. Far better than most projects I've done 😅 Just so you know, they put doors or block off fireplaces, when houses are empty, so that small animals, birds don't get into the house via the chimney. It also helps to keep out the cold, if you're not using it but it's not the prettiest look! You'll need to take that off if you intend using the fireplace and it will look lovely as it looks like a gorgeous stone surround. Lots of great space downstairs and great cantinas. Also a massive attic, which will be very useful eventually. In the meantime, great for storage, hence the wood! (warm and dry) If you need any hints...just ask me! I'm on my 14th project LOL 🤣😂🤣a glutton for punishment. I'm sure we will meet up one of these days! Sending best wishes and happy days ahead in your new home...Marisa 🥰🤗😘🍷🍷Auguri e salute!
@@talesfromtuscany oh wow, that's amazing advice. There are so many things that we are clueless about! You've really caught the bug for renovation 😂 Yes, it seems that this house has been quite important to the villagers and so they've been looking after it while it's been empty. We feel very lucky that we've found it 😊
@@stuartandpaul oh I've been nuts about creating/developing houses since I was very young! I'm a frustrated architect, interior designer etcetera 😍🤣so I just buy/develop/sell/repeat! Or have done...now I'm slowing down and doing fewer (she says with 3 projects on the GO simultaneously) 😂🤣😂You've done really well. Not sure if you can knock through walls in the cantina though as they looked load bearing. Anyway, you'll find out soon enough...all part of the journey! Have FUN 🤩😀🤗
Awesome house. Maybe you could change the pitch of the roof without raising the walls in the attic to add the space you’re looking for? Hard to tell the true height of the walls from video so don’t know if that’s practical or not.
From our initial conversations I think we need to add a couple of ft to the top of the walls for a reinforced concrete ring to earthquake proof the house, and that will give us the height we need. Apparently they can match the stone to face up the concrete, but we'll see what some second opinions say! Thanks for the suggestion though, keep them coming!
The doors keep the cold/draughts out when you are not using the fire, which will be many months. I have mine closed in like yours, othewrise the heat just disappears up it
If you raised the roof and added in glass blocks... that would add light and not take away from the stone work on the outside *one suggestion of a million you'll get I'm sure!*
Wow, that's a really interesting suggestion. To be honest, I don't think that would get approval as the house is part of a medieval village and has very strict planning requirements, but it's worth a conversation
Great little house, decent shape and nice property around and you're lucky to have some appliances... won't take much to whip this into a quite livable shape and bit by bit you decide where you want to go with it! So how much did you pay? 😏I've subscribed to see how it goes.
Thank you, that's exactly what we thought. The house was an absolute bargain when you see complete ruins in the area going for more. I won't put a number on it just yet but it wasn't a €1 home 😂
Yes, it's a strange house. Hasn't been lived in for years but the middle floor is surprisingly good, although the floors feel like we could fall through them at any time! There's a huge amount to do though, it is technically uninhabitable by Italian law and to make it habitable means full restoration and earthquake proofing

Haha 🤣 yes! Brexit means exactly that for us - get the hell out of Britain 😏 although in fairness, we do have to go back every 90 days until we sort out a long term solution 🙄
