Re: rock in creek: it looks like the creek did not always run where the rock was and at some point the course of the creek changed (possibly due to the beavers). At one time the rock was covered with soil and trees. The course of the creek changed, and the rock became surrounded by water but the soil and the trees remain on top of the rock.
@BRPEngineering
@BRPEngineering 3 года назад
And given the shape of the rock, I'd assume that it was a glacial erratic that got buried under all of the muck that settled out above it.
@alanviner3711

Great answer to his question, from the size of the rock I have to agree with you, with the damming the beavers did in the past it seems the natural answer..👍
@KThom429
@KThom429 3 года назад
He's standing in the wind as he asks the question. Wind blows loose soil onto the rock, animals can bring soil on their feet and in their fur or wings, others bring 'soil' from the creek bottom when they climb up. But, yeah, all these other answers are most likely a combined answer.

The wife and I were thinking the same thing. Another thought is putting "The Mule" in wet will cause all kinds of condensation and rust all the tools. Not cool for The Mule as it cools water will ingress inti it's electrical too.

A small room in the back that’s insulated, that you can heat easily would be smart. If your truck or SideXSide breaks down and you have no heat and have to wait for help, it might just save your life to have a safety shelter. Stocked with a small heater, maybe some canned food and water should be enough for emergencies. Plus if you set up enough room for fold down cots, perhaps a bit of solar for the heater, you could hunt out of it with a couple of people. The little room could also be used as a small office for the property with logging happening. The container is a great idea.

@markscheurich2196
@markscheurich2196 3 года назад
I would keep the entrance inside the unit and no windows, that way people and animals can’t get in easily. A small exhaust fan to exhaust bad air if you heat with anything but solar electric would be needed as well. They have some big, bad animals in those woods and the safety of the metal container is valuable against them, not to mention stray bullets from hunters as well. Plus if it looks like storage, it’s more then likely not going to raise suspicion to any curious eyes that might be around.
@rocketsurgery8337
@rocketsurgery8337 3 года назад
@@markscheurich2196 that would be a death trap if there's a fire especially since they plan on parking their Mule at one end. There needs to be a wall that's fire rated and a means of egress per building codes.
@markscheurich2196
@markscheurich2196 3 года назад
This was just an idea, not final planning on codes enforcement. If they’re inside, don’t park the Mule in it. My suggestion is only a few day or emergency shelter, if they’re living in it, that’s a totally different thing from what I’m talking about.

My father was a 40year mechanic, and he always taught me, if I had to add antifreeze to my radiator, always add it to the overflow tank, so you don't disrupt the pressure in the radiator every time you unscrew the radiator cap! Just a thought from experienced man! I think you should turn the back of the container into a small living area, somewhere to get in out of the cold! Not for long term living! God Bless!

I would wall off and insulate the back 12’, build in bunk beds at the end with storage shelf on top, put in small woodstove, table n chairs and couch. Door in the new wall of course. Between that space and the garage space I would put a chop saw station, workbench, tool storage and materials storage, and wire it up thru the wall to connect to generator outside the container. Rent a 500 gal propane tank and install it near container and use a propane powered generator. Can also use propane heater in “living” area if you dont want the woodstove.Maybe get a propane fridge out of an old RV, too.

Insulate the back half of the container and have fold out bunk beds. Leave a camp kitchen and seating so that you've got emergency accomodation in case of rain/snow. Also put a fold out lean-to on the front side so you got outside cover as well.

Al, concerning the SeaContainer ... your level was indicating 1”in 4’... that’s a 10” difference +/- across the entire 40’... make sure to get enough blocks to make the difference plus you may want to support the middle on the sides so that all that weight isn’t on the 4 points...

Got one just like her. Ribs on room run side to side. Dents on roof allow water to stand. Hammer out if possible...I built walls and pushed roof to slightly bow for run off. Then before I painted it I applied a good coat of POR 15 to all rusty areas inside and out for added protection. A slight tilt on the side may allow run off but some dents may not allow runoff. Fill blocks with concrete to make leveling blocks and use small solids for tops.

Gooooooood mornin. That container is a great idea. My guess about that rock would be that the soil and forest were built up before that creek ran through there and when it finally did flow around that rock, which was a high spot, it washed away the soil to that point leaving those trees high and dry. Also, that curry looked so good.

Hi there You can make a funnel from a water bottle. Put it in the radiator opening hold it tight and poor some antifreeze. Run the engine to make the liquid circulate and all the air trapped in the system will come out because the level it the bottle will be higher. You will loose some antifreeze but you will solve this problem once and for all.

They have a farm full of animals that need tending to daily. Who’s looking after those if they sleep in this shipping container? Also, word to the wise, shipping containers have no ability to be opened from inside. Until that’s dealt with I wouldn’t have everyone inside at the same time even for a few seconds. A stiff gust of wind could snap the door shut and it would be basically impossible to get out. Cellphones won’t really work in that poor-man’s Faraday Box when the doors closed either. Pretty unpleasant coffin for this nice family....

I have had two of those containers that exact size for 17 years now. Your container is in better shape than mine started out. I lined one side with shelves and use it for secure storage. A few years ago I used Unistrut bolted to the sides to make a frame for holding solar panels and have my solar system mounted to the top of them. Mine are set side by side about 12 feet apart and I just put a flat roof between them and use the space to park the mower and tractors under partial cover. I would consider using railroad tie or old phone poles under the ends. The weight can crush the concrete blocks especially onec they are full. I also had difficulty jacking them. I ended up using an 8 ft 4x4 under the roof edge on top of a hydraulic bottle jack set on a small pad to jack the corners up. Certainly the quickest way to get some secure storage when you have the space like you do.

Of course, make a ‘cabin’ in the trailer. It would be a nice place to relax during your days at the off grid. I have a 10 X 20 in my back yard, I have water vessels (my running water) and a compost toilet, so it is the perfect craft/ hangout area. 🏘

20:22 - hope the overflow reservoir on the Mule has enough coolant in it to suck the antifreeze mix back in when it cools/contracts. If it's empty, you'll be forever adding to it. Make sure it's up to the "cool" mark, Al. 👍

The back half of that high cube would make a perfect hunting lodge. A place to come in after dark and to sleep in to get a real early start at hunting and easily heated with a propane heater.

How about making the back half an overnight sleeping area with bunk beds, little heater/stove, table and chairs.

Good morning all. Love to see new ideas coming to Lumnah 2.0. They do lots of things with shipping containers, even underground. But they don't look like shipping containers when all are finished. But carry on I'm sure you've thought what you want and have a great plan. Building your own home out of your own lumber is satisfying indeed. Can't wait for next video.

Greetings gang, great idea on the container! I’m sure that you and Gina will come up with some novel ideas for your insta shed. I could almost smell the curry here in Vancouver where we have a very large Indo Canadian clan and their foods are out of this world. Enjoy your weekend and keep the embers glowing eh......l

Add a second container level with first one and level and secure the 2 together. Add a wood roof over both and use one half of one for off grid vehicle. Do cutout of back section and have a big open area. Insulate, add seating, bunk bed, stove, heater and generator.

Did you see the look Gina gave Al when said it was their new home? I think not! No matter how nice it's fixed up, it still would be a step down from what they have now. However, put a stove in the far end, insulate some of walls, add work bench and shelves, it would be a nice work shop.

Love my storage container - probably the best money I’ve spent on our property. You did yourself a favor by getting the 40’ over a 20’, and the 9’ ceiling. I don’t know what you have planned for the rear of it, but nothing wrong with leaving as is to maximize your storage space, especially if you need to store materials for your next build. Containers are awesome as an instant garage for a fraction of the price of a stick built. Dry and secure.

My favorite channel:). Topping off coolant in engine. With a cold engine remove radiator cap then run engine two to three minutes allowing air to escape from coolant system instead of circulating. Now while engine still running fill coolant system, one time process.

Glad to see you going with shipping containers. I love them and own 4 on my property for lots of things. One is a work shop, one is storage, one is small vehicle parking, lots of options. I have a few basic designs I've done over the years in Sketchup I can send you if you like. Keep up the good work.

Be sure to block the container with 16"x16" block pads on all 4 corners and center on both sides. I actually have mine blocked with 8 piers and strapped to auger type 4' anchors. Good buy! You'll not regret it.

The front half of the off grid container is great for converting to a place to warm up, eat and sleep. I'm thinking of a hunting weekend. A moose is a lot of work to process. Having a container cabin is great for the off grid. I know you will transform it into a cozy comfortable place. All the best. Is it just me or is Olivia getting taller by the day!!

ive bought a few of these and the 20ft containers, the 20ft i like more because of the way i can move them from site to site with the truck or skid, for me they dont lose value, especially if you paint them up before resale, one i cut up and widened for the outdoor garage for the skid and other machinery for the estate... the 40ft-ers i repaired painted and sold on...

@cheekymonkey666
@cheekymonkey666 3 года назад
@@msailor476 depends on condition you want them, cheapest i bought was scrap value, if you want it for living in then you want a clean looking one pre painted but that costs more, just a basic scratched ruff looking one with dents and holes you can pay between 1k and 3k anything up to 18k with built in windows and doors... heating etc etc... got to shop around a bit to get a good deal... you can also contact the owners of containers enquire if they got some unused smashed up ones that could be fixed... most auction them off or sell them to a certain company to refurbish them

A chicken curry is always wonderful. The back half of that shipping container would be wonderful as a campout cabin, a window or two, a wood stove, table, chairs, sofa and some bunks, it would be useful as a camp out and warm up shelter when you have the coldest weather and deep snows of winter. ❤👍

Put a stick built roof, using 4x4 or 6x6 alongside of the container and so many feet away from the side. This allows you to use the top of container for storage on the property. Also if you put a second door under the roof rafters, it won't allow water inside

Back half. Insulation, wood-burning stove, Solar for some batteries, and make it a workshop. You can probably get enough power for lights and battery power. It can also be an emergency shelter on your land. If the truck fails and it is you are stuck it would be a warm dry place to wait until the weather clears or help comes. So workshop and shelter if needed.
