I think they should just take the engine out of it and junk it, the airframe looks too moist, rotten and sunbaked to work. But I might be mistaken.

We at XeVision offered to "help" with the Landing light system damaged on that Cirrus, we made that HID original system.

@@benjaminsunderland2336 In the case of this Warrior, the key also provides for energizing the starter relay when in the “Start” position. Kind of hard to start it from the cockpit without the key. Looks like he got the pins and cylinder of the keyswitch freed up with the kroil. With a functioning ignition switch, he had the redundancy of shutting the engine down if something went wrong with the mixture cable. Otherwise he would have had to remove the p leads and manually ground the (non hot) lead on the starter relay coil to start. That does not sound like much fun.

You're assuming someone didn't prep and run the engine a few days ago before they sat it outside for this video.

@@T_Mo271 Well that would be very dishonest of them if they actually ran the engine prior to them recording preparations and actual running of the engine. I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt that the engine was not run prior to actual video content.

Except there is no way to access the cam on the O-320/360 without removing a cylinder. Access through the dipstick will only get access to the sump and above that, there are very narrow slots in the bottom of the case where oil can drain into the sump. If this airplane was indeeed parked for 15 years and the engine was not “pickled”, then the cam lobes and lifter faces are most likely severely corroded. The engine will run just fine like this, but will slowly lose power over 2 years /200 hrs or so as the cam profile is slowly worn away by the pitted follower.

@@Stepclimb Well my friend, then remove a cylinder That's no big deal It's done every day probably a hundred times a day. Now the cylinder walls didn't look corroded at all so there's a good chance that the cam is not corroded either but certainly needs to have lots of lubrication after sitting idle for so long. And if you do remove a cylinder then you could use the borescope to inspect the cam. Once again these guys are rushing to get an aircraft back in the air when they need to slow down just a bit. Juan Brown and many others, including myself have made it very clear to these guys that they need to slow down and do things right or sure as God has made little green apples, there's going to be another accident

@@christophergagliano2051 I get the impression that you have never removed a cylinder from a Lycoming O-320. It is no small feat to remove all the baffles just to get to the point of removal. Also, as Mike Busch has pointed out, cylinder removal should be avoided if at all possible due to the inherent risks of the difficulty of achieving base stud and through-stud preload with the engine in-situ. It is completely ridiculous to propose to remove a cylinder to lubricate the cam. It is MAYBE called for if one suspects cam corrosion based on oil filter inspection results. Certainly, if one were evaluating an airplane for purchase, it would be highly unlikely that a seller would allow for the removal of a cylinder to allow for cam inspection. Either way, Cam corrosion is NOT an immediate airworthiness issue because cam wear happens slowly over time. Additionally, removing a cylinder will only allow you to view 3 of the 6 lobes due to the case webbing around the center bearing journal. A borescope won’t help you here. The process they are using is sound. Spinning the engine with plugs out will splash some oil up on the lifter-cam interface sufficient to ensure they avoid a complete dry-start. They are smart to leave the cylinders alone. If they had concerns about the cam, they could get a ferry permit, fly the airplane several hours to a maintenance facility and then cut open the oil filter for inspection. Cam wear presents itself as magnetic “whiskers” in the filter pleats. This is a much better way to determine cam health while avoiding the risk of cylinder removal.

I dunno man, that Cirrus was more than a basket case. The avionics alone would eat the profit from this plane. That said, he sold the 140 and this plane would be far better for bouncing around to other airports.

I have a few hours in one and would gladly have traded my 172 straight across for one :)
