My dads finger did the same thing several years ago working some cattle. He hit his hand on the head of a mad momma cow that tried to get him. He tapped it straight for a while, and it eventually straightened out after a few weeks.

It’s called mallet finger. Done the same to mine. Put a splint on it and tape it good. Some require surgery to fix mine didn’t but I was in splint for a couple of months

It takes a helluva person to be rodeoing at 60 years old especially bull riding or anything on the ruff stock end of the arena. I think the word Legend comes to mind.

We used to do this at John Quintana’s up here in Oregon when I was a young buck. John was in the last of his riding career and put on schools he lived just around the corner. We had a blast, Good on you Dale & crew.

Tendons and ligaments. I have done the same things to middle finger on my left hand.

Dale you have mallet finger. You may have busted that tendon on the top called the extensor tendon. Splint the finger at that furthest knuckle for 6 weeks. The fingertip should be straight or even pointed a little up to heal well. If you don’t you can end up with the permanent version called a swan neck deformity.
