Like everyone else here, relieved you and your buddy are okay. This is a good public service you're doing by sharing this experience, a good reminder to the rest of us. Hope you're back fishing.
I watched it all the way through, its so true that there only $9 and they will save your life!! I have the Stryker bibs also and it was a excellent purchase! I'm glad your still with us Brother.
Thank you for sharing your new wisdom. It's hard to earn. Telling your story may help save someone else in the future. Keep after it and I will look forward to seeing that sled running. Shutting it off was a good move. Glad you made it.
So glad you guys are ok... I think it is very important that you shared your experience with us. I think it may save lives! I think everyone going ice fishing should watch a video like this. Just to be prepared.
Wow, that's some scary drama. Things are easily replaced, people aren't. Glad to see your ok. It's like they say, there's no such thing as SAFE ICE. Be prepared for suprises I always say.. I went through 5 years ago, and its definitely something you never forget. 🥶🎣🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing your story! I'm from Alabama and I live in Wisconsin now. I love ice fishing and I found your channel since I'm buying my first shanty today and trying to learn everything I can. I didn't even think to buy the ice picks and I had no idea they made bibs that would help you float if you fell in. You already taught me a lot and possibly saved a life too! I'm so happy that you and your friend are safe.
Shanty is nice,But ice picks, safety rope, throw rope, floating suit is more safety where the shanty is more comfort. If you google float assist or floating icefishing suits can see them. Or check out clamoutdoors.com,stryker,any of the big name icefishing clothing companies or any of the big name sporting goods/outdoors stores. A good place is cabelas to go look, try on. Then you can price shop for price online.😎
So glad you guys are OK. Thanks for putting this video together. I am just getting into ice fishing and watching as many videos as I can to learn quickly. So I really appreciate you sharing your experience. This video will definitely be engrained in my mind. Well wishes for future success. Thanks again.
Buddy that’s so scary sucks big time you lost some stuff and your snowmobile but like you said all of that can be replaced the most Important thing is that you and your buddy walk away after someone was looking out for the both of you that day ! Keep safe out there and get right back out there don’t let the fear of going through get to you !
There are those of us who have been through the ice, and those yet to go through. Been through 3 times. The suit works. Spikes a must. Glad you alive. Glad your still fishing. Be safe. Colorado 2.5 inches. No fishing here.
Glad youre safe man!! Everyone needs to know how important safety gear is. I made ice picks with dowels that had screws in the ends that I clipped off with bolt cutters. I wore a life jacket before I could afford a floating suit. Every little bit counts and you're living proof. Good luck out there this season man
My dad and I went through the ice today. We were on a snowmobile with gear. Luckily only the back half of the snowmobile went down. A nice guy on the lake helped my dad and I get the snowmobile out. Nothing was lost and we are thankful Nothing bad happened. Be careful when out on the ice. Always check the ice.
Glad to hear you guys are ok! A fellow WI fisherman here and we love watching your channel. Was shocked to see this video pop up on your channel because we’ve been in the same boat as you with being on nice thick ice so far up north. Again, glad you guys are alright and we will definitely be a little more cautious on our next fishing trip.
Very glad you and your friend are ok. 🙏🙏 I work as a Warden where I live and 3 ATV’s thru the ice a few days ago. Everyone was ok but certainly a lesson that one spot may have 12" and the next is unsafe.
Wow glad you guys are safe. Brother and I wear Striker Ice parka and bibs with flotation built in. Don’t want to have the emergency to try them out. Glad I have them they sure keep me warm and safe. Good luck fishing 👍👍
Great video, Sorry for the misfortune. I just ordered a new striker suit for ice fishing. Been ice fishing for 45 years now and don't screw around with that anymore. Went out and check are ice 2 days ago north of Detroit and no good, too sketchy for me. Cant wait to get out when its safe. Glad you guys are okay. Thanks for the content.
I'm sure you wish you never had to tell this story. I thank you for making this video. It has reminded me to continue to be careful and that there is always a risk, especially when going to a new lake.
I'm glad you guys are ok!!! . Your right, ice picks are cheap and everyone should have some. Also wearing a life jacket is a good option if a person cant afford the sure float ice suit. A life jacket will keep you afloat and give you time to use your ice picks to get out of the water.
Wow, like American Express I don’t leave home without them. I was asked how much my suit cost . I told them and they said geez. I said “ I’m worth it. Glad your ok and look forward to see more videos from you. Stay safe
Glad you guys are ok everything else can be replaced but not a life !! I’ve watched some other videos on the conditions of some of the lakes up there and they’ve said that with the snow they got it’s hiding all the very thin spots and you don’t know your on it until it’s to late. Unless you’ve GPS’d the bad spots it’s a gamble I won’t make. Again glad both of you are still with us !!!
Glad ya made it through, me and 2 buddies went through lake winnebago 2 years ago in a truck and that was the most scary time for me. 18ft of water thank god we all made it out. The good lord was watching over us that day.
So far the ice has been crazy this year in my neck of the woods (south central Wisconsin). Glad you made it out OK!! I was lucky enough to just get a wet leg on a lake that is normally quite stable...
Yes ice isn't normal this year thanks to the screwy weather we've had so far this season. Unfortunately fits right into anything/everything else in 2020.
Idk how I found your channel today. We're planning a fishing trip in northern MN w a hard sided shack. But w your story it's making me think we need to go all the way to Lake of the Woods.
Oh my God, glad you guys are safe, every year you hear story of guys not making it out, when they would have if they had simple safety gear. Stay safe all our to out on the ice this year
I'm glad you and your buddy are ok, if you need extra gear to keep making videos let me know, I'll help with what I can. Keep your head high , everything is replaceable your lives are not.
the older i get the more i like summer fishing and just wading in the water. ice fishing takes alot of effort. i try to carry the least amount of gear and still just walk out. 1 rod flasher and bucket and my drill. i was going to buy a CO2 inflatable life jacket i bet that would be a great investment. glad you and your buddy are ok kyle. everyone has close calls in life keep grinding keep fishing.
Wow big eye opener for us all so sorry it happened at all heading out ice fishing in an hour I’ll make damm sure my hand spikes are in my chest pockets glade you guys are ok
Glad you're ok. I always fear that happening to me. Today I saw a guy drive his atv out on the lake I fished on. We have 6 inches of ice here and 8-10 inches of snow. There is a ton of water on the ice right now and after he drove on it it made it worse! Sorry you had to go through that ordeal but at least you're home!
Glad your ok, been in that same situation about 15 years ago. You shut the sled off, with some work it will run again. Get it in a warm shop ASAP after getting out.
I had it happen to me ice went from 10in to 2in. Our sled dropped threw like someone pulled the rug out only thing kept it up was the shanty was still on good ice holding the sled straight down in 24ft of water. I tied it to the ice with rope and the airboat had to go back and get it. That was an expensive learning experience. It cost me $800 to get the sled out and it never ran again. I have skipped across many bad spots in my life but when it just dropped like it did for us no skipping that. Glad u guys we ok.
Flipped and drained it. Changed oil and gas. Also bought a new battery. Nothing would light up. Only a $2000 dollar 06 rev. between the price of the computer if that was it or from there the electronic fuel injection gave up cut it up and parted out on eBay. Motor did still have compression.
I've never been in that position before but have come close I ripped a hole in the ice with my truck and didn't go down I was over 25 feet of water and we had 20 inches of is in the middle of March and hit a spring only 2 inches of ice in that spot ripped up the old 79 chef prity good had some fixing to do but better then losing the hole thing glad you guys are safe
Glad you’re ok bud and your friend is too!! Thanks for sharing you likely have saved some lives with this video! By the way you may be able to save your sled get it up and outta there and get it to a shop ASAP! Pull plugs roll the water outta it and get it fired up and soon as possible! Take care of yourself and keep your chin up!
Kyle glad your ok and alive it is just crazy how the ice is this year on a lake we where on it was 10" by shore and was 4" in the middle last weekend its just a crazy 2020 end for the ice take care
There are a lot of spring fed lakes up there, can be super sketchy if you come up on thin ice (especially slow or turning). Glad you guys are alright, ive heard a lot worse stories.
Dam! Glad you’re both ok! I was on Upper Red lake all weekend with my kids in my one ton and wheel house but I wouldn’t drive my 1/2 ton pickup on the lakes at home two hours south of red lake!! Crazy weather this year again!
Wow glad to see y'all made it back safe and are ready to go back out. I bet I check the ice more now at least I would. I've heard that mechanicly the sled should be fine as lone as you can get the water out of the entire engine and fuel system but idk about the electrics of it. Who honestly cares tho like you said the most important part is y'all are safe.
Becareful out there, if u see no one out there driving around, don’t risk being the first one to do it. Call around, listen to reports and call local bait shops.. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
If you shut the sled off you can dump all the fluids tip it on its side pull spark plugs and keep pulling the pull start still no more water comes out the heads out fluids back in and it will run still
glad you and your friend are safe. I'm going to buy spikes. is it possible to get the retrieval, on video? thats cheap in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦, that would be lots of money. glad you are alive.
Sleds not totaled just drain the water out it will run. Put the sled on its side pull the spark plugs and crank the motor over the water will blow out the holes. I race watercross in the summer on my sled trust me
You never learned the Trick to Tie a 100' rope on the butt end of the sled you can use to tow it up from the bottom of the lake with a Buoy so you can find it latter . ALWAYS KNOW how DEEP the lake is you are sledding on . Like you , I learned this all the hard way like you have . Glad you are both safe . Others have not been so lucky .
