In this crazy fast paced life it seems all one has to do is blink and you'll miss their childhood. My best childhood memories were playing in my fort with friends as a kid so I'm stoked to be able to build a fort with my boys. Enjoy!!!...

This is the best way to get kids into woodworking, carpentry and bushcrafting. My dad gave me and my brother a huge box of nails, hammers, a saw and a pile of boards and helped us build whatever we dreamed up. After countless hours of learning how to nail boards together, we had a little fort playhouse in the woods with two extensions, a door, a car port, a tin roof, painted exterior, shelving for toys, tool rack, 12V for lights, and a deck. it's still standing 40 years later.

Well done, Dad! Teaching our sons how to use tools, practice safety, and allowing them to partake in the glories of having helped build it... there's nothin' like it!

I rember building my first level tree fort, at age 10. I did it all my self, in the giant oak tree in the front yard. 15 feet off the ground. Man was that a great experience.

You are also teaching your kids sweat equity. It will be their fort for years to come. They will appreciate it and take care of it. And when the time comes, they will know how to build the next, bigger better fort.

My father and his brother built a "tree hut" for me and my two brothers back in the late 50s. It was triangular. Three trees and dimensional lumber. I remember smoking my first cigarette up there. Made me so dizzy, I almost fell off. Great video. Love your family. You're raising them well. I was the oldest of nine (five boys, four girls) and my best friends growing up were the two oldest of six boys. Love big families.

This is a great learning experience for your boys. However, I would not have driven screws into the live trees. I think it would have been better to use flexible connections, e.g., straps to connect the beams to the live wood. I would love to hear your perspective.

Great to see you teach your kids this stuff, we live in a digital world where we are raising little nancys, I feel todays kids will google how to remove an apple from a tree as they have no clue. Your lucky to be in this environment where you can teach them this stuff, sadly most of us live in a concrete jungle with laws that don’t even allow us to build a fence without multiple red tapes.

When I worked for Apple, I couldn't WAIT until the end of each day. Since I've had my woodworking business and YT channel, I don't take days off and I still feel like I work less than I was. And working 40 hours for someone else, felt like I had NO TIME to myself...crazy how that works.

The only way this could have been better, is if they had nicked all your wood, and done it themselves. LOL We had forts carved into cliffs, and platforms in willow trees as kids. Got quite a few floggings for stealing the old mans tools, but it was worth every damned minute of it. 🤣

my grandfather was a logger his whole life. he taught me a trick for starting a chainsaw. pump the priming bulb 3 time, choke, pull the starting cord out all the way, very slowly. then pull real fast. as long as you take care of your saw and its a Stihl or poulan it will start every time.
