That seemed like a pretty clean conversion. It was nice to see your break down of the different stuffage you put into the project. Pretty nifty! Say, do you think it would be possible to remove the entire drive train and battery system from a Nissan Leaf and install it nearly directly into the likes of a Nissan Rogue? The smart thing to do would be literally just register it as a normal passenger vehicle. If you he tells the people at the DMV what he's done they will 100% not let him plate it. They'd probably tell him it needs special inspection and it more then likely would not pass and then he's screwed.

It's a good question. Most of cars from IAAI would have salvage title so it would need smog certificate to start with and sometimes would need CHP inspection if the vehicle is popular for stolen.

After watching your series on the conversion I am now tempted to find a old 4runner and mate the motor to the transfer case still giving me a 2 speed transfer and 4x4 for icy roads which would let you put the battery's under the hood since there would be nothing in the engine bay anymore.

as a guy who build these mini cooper ones, i must say i'm impressed with the choices and how you did it. we do build mini electric but personally haven't seen them produced in volume. saving a f58 non runner was a good call, i'm guessing this is a older car 2010-2014?

Lets say he's a law abiding citizen and generalizing city speed limits it would take him 14.4 minutes @25mph to get to his prime surfing location 6 miles away. Now @100mph it would take him 3.6 minutes so that allows him to sleep in a whopping 10.8 minutes providing there's no unaccounted time loss like dolphin polishing :)

I scrolled a long way through the comments and NOBODY commented on a 41 mile battery life? You can grab a porsche boxter for under 5k with a 50% lower 0-60 and a 50% higher top end, same number of seats, better balance, 0 modification, and literally 10x the range. He put HUNDREDS of hours into a vehicle that can only go 20 miles from your house without several hours of recharging. I can't think of any person on the planet this vehicle is suitable for. It was fun to watch.

Haven't seen how the axles were attached. The original engine had a carrier bearing mounting for the 2 piece axle, which would require a custom sub-frame to allow for the same mounting position if there isn't an engine to mount to. If I'm not misktaken this topic was skimmed over and this very important detail is missing.

Such a great build! I know register some/most of your builds. Does MA give you a hassle? I know it is easier with the olders cars but with the modern cars, is there any special paperwork that you need to provide or "deal with it later"? I have been bing watching your channel the last few days and I am stoked! I wanted to do a 60's-early 70's Beetle conversion but am thinking now of a modern Mini since it has heat, AC, radio ... you know the essentials!

Now you just need to figure out how to mount eye-bolts to the batteries in some way so you can lift them out quickly with an engine crane for the hot-swap. It'll be interesting to see if you can come up with a better cradle and anchoring system.

Bindged the whole thing. Wonderful! Great to find your channel. If you parallel those batteries on the right and left side for racing, for safety do you need to rollbar protection? Also, when not racing, would a form fitting 3D printed mold over both batteries help for tool boxes, rakes, shovels, groceries etc. for easy shopping and race day transport? Wonder if this mid channel could be preserved?

that's not the point. As he said if you want to have fun, go on a race track. If you live or work in an area where people come to 'try' cars like this, you'll get mad too that woulf be normal.
