We Built Our Own In-Ground Pool - DIY Pool and Spa (We Saved $125,000)
My wife (the Designer) decided she wanted a pool, so I (the DIYer) decided I was going to…DO IT MYSELF! Kinda…
Since I didn’t have any experience building pools I decided to do some research and came across this awesome company, conveniently called DIY Pools and Spas, www.diypoolsandspas.com/nick
I signed up for their Homebuilder DIY program. They provide you with a pool design, give you access to an entire DIY course, and consult you every step of the way.
Overall, the project took us about 5 months to complete, which includes a few weather delays, unexpected side projects, and doing the decking and turf myself.
My initial quotes for a basic pool were about $150,000, but after adding in a unique diamond paver design and turfing our entire backyard, my estimate is between $225,000 and $250,000.
We ended up spending about $125,000 on our DIY Pool and Spa, including the DIY Pools and Spa design and program, all the subcontractors, my 40 trips to Home Depot and Lowes, and everything in between.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be doing a DIY Pool and Spa series where I’ll breakdown the cost, savings, process, mistakes, and lessons we learned doing this project.
Here are a few ideas I have for the video series, but it’s evolving as I map it out.
DIY Pool Series:
DIY Pool Build With Pavers and Artificial Turf
DIY Pool: The Truth About How Much It Costs To Build Your Own Inground Pool
DIY Pool: Mistakes We Made And What We Would Have Done Differently
DIY Pool: The Honest Truth About How Much Money We Saved
I’m a huge fan of DIY in general, but I must say building a pool was a little intimidating, since you don’t really have any room for error.
I’ve done all kinds of DIY projects in our homes, but usually if I make a mistake, I can fix it for not much extra time or money. When you’re doing something as permanent as pool, the stakes are higher!
I hope you enjoy my DIY pool and DIY pool series. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or ideas for what you’d like for us to share in the future!

Yes I live in Chicago cheapest quote is 150k for a small poo 10x20l. It varies a lot based on area. Arizona is life half that.

Pool prices are nuts and half of my clients that have installed them have had horrendous issues with pool contractors due to labor shortages, material shortages, project completion delays, and on and on. It’s a nightmare.

$100k? Is that a joke? Lmao. You can build an inground pool for $5k. Plenty of videos showcasing that. That landscaping looks generic as fuck I can buy pavers like those for $2/sqft at Menards 😂😂 turf for $10k?? Grass seed is cheap as dirt. And dont give me any BS about caring about saving water with that pool right there 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Well aren't you a breath of fresh air! Where I live, 5K wouldn't even be enough to dispose of the excavated material. But, happy you are fortunate enough to live in a location that allows you to build a pool for $5K. Where is that, by the way? I don't think I mentioned anything about saving water. I think I mentioned something about saving on chlorine with a saltwater pool. Actually after having the pool for a year, it doesn't really save on much. But, I like saying I have a "saltwater pool." :) The landscape probably looks generic because I designed it and did the work with my dad and father in law and we aren't experts. Glad I gave you a laugh, thanks for commenting.

Have you priced out building a pool lately? Also, turf itself it’s expensive, but the prepping of the land is. Depending on location, you’re going to pay $10-15/square foot for installation

Haha this guy must be a clown 5k lmao. Same prices in Chicago as what your saying for a pool minimum for tiny pool 150k.
