He made a very valid point: Church isn't a building, we the body of Christ ARE the Church. What people call 'Church' is a building where people meet and have a schedule that tells them what to do. I personally don't believe that's what was originally intended. I say he had some pretty valid points, and now this makes sense of the feeling that I get from some of their music. Now my respect for this band is even GREATER than before.
***** I agree with a lot of what he said, but think he still has a lot of growing to do.. WCAR are one of my favourite bands and i even have their lyrics tattoo'd on my arm... BUT as a bible believing Christian i believe that our live are supposed to be lived in worship and testimony to God and that we are commanded to speak truth about who Jesus is. I understand and even agree with not being a christian band, but i wish the christians would be a little more bold about their faith. In saying that, i love them and know they are all on a journey just as we are. :)
I absolutely agree with you, our lives should deb a living testament. It's a shame that some Christians don't want to claim the title just because they are afraid of what the world might think, or in the case of bands, what the fans might think I mean if you really want to put it in that respect, I would claim more of the title of Believer instead of Christian. I say that because when someone asks what your religion is and you answer "Christian" their next question is "What kind of Christian? Baptist, Catholic, Jehovah's Witness, what type?" It's like a stereotype. Jus as you said, everyone is on a journey, in the end we decide where we will let this journey take us.
I am a Christian like Josh, I believe in God, talk about him, praise him, etc, but I don't go to church, and listening to their music I do feel a connection spirituality with Christ and I'm glad that he said some of their songs do relate to Christ and now I understand it even more, WCAR FOREVER!
I am an atheist and I love how he explained this. Instead of religion I look to music and he instead of being a douche about it turned it into not being judgemental and just simply being human. Not trying to be cheezy here, but lets love eachother not matter what you believe in. That's all I like to see.
I stand right by you on this as a person of faith. I wish ppl could be as open minded as you and I. Having a religion or not, everyone needs to just accept the difference and get along.
I personally am Christian and WCAR is my favorite band! Awesome video, i have wondered if they are Christians or not, and now I know. btw I love the song lyrics on top of the music. YOU GUYS ARE SO AWESOME AND HAVE IMPACTED MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER! THANK YOU!
***** Dude you shut the fck up!!! Shows a LOT about you having to come onto someone's positive post to say some shit! You are NO Saiyan, you are a little LITTLE piece of shit man like Garlic Jr!
He's not a Christian but he defined WHAT Christianity is all about. It's about being Christ-like , loving not judging and having a personal relationship with God. It doesn't matter if you smoke a cigarette , though it's unhealthy, but, it's all a About your heart and not what u do on the outside because God sees your heart and not your physical . Amen
Joan Mbanefo It still matters if you smoke a cigarette.... we all sin and its all forgivable but when you are filled with the holy spirit you understand that your body is a temple... we've all got growing to do :)
Ashlee H you're right, it still matters if he smokes a cigarette because our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit But then, nowadays, people are so judged because they smoke a cigarette and it makes them feel like they don't deserve God. We shouldn't destroy our bodies and the Christian community shouldn't throw people away because they have vices, but bring them closer to experience an intimate relationship the Lord which would cause them to have a special encounter with Christ and with time and by doing so, the Holy Spirit would Himself teach them, minister to them and help them stop any form of destructive habit because His teachings are kind and gentle and filled with so so so much grace. I'm just speaking from experience
Ashlee H It doesn't matter if a Christian smokes. Yes your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, but when Paul said that in Corinthians he was speaking in the context of sexual immorality.
By not setting their goal to fit into the man-made definition of "Christian metal" They still provide clean lyrics, most songs are obviously spiritual in nature. They haven't (from what I've seen so far) said anything against the Christian doctrine. To his statement of, "We are not a Christian band." I respond with, "If it walks and talks like a duck...." God bless!
Well also Christ wants us as Christians have our actions reflect our beliefs. So in ways it does matter on the outside but also the Lord knows your heart.Just make sure it reflects your actions
I was born into Christianity, left it by decision and abhor organized religion ever since. But I am so proud of WCAR and their music! Josh's words are very important, especially what he says about churches. And remember, spiritual doesn't have to be Christian, "spiritual" is a much deeper and wider category.
chaser When a Christian says spiritually he or she definitely only means the relationship with Jesus through his Holy spirit. Anything but is blasphemous. Not having a go at you, just stating that if he truly loves Jesus as he has stated, he is not promoting any kinds of 'wider' spirituality. Much love. xx
I personally believe that wcar is a Christian band. I mean, josh said that they have both Christian and non Christian members, but we as the body of Christ are the church...it doesn't have to physically be in a building. I mean, they are a BAND. they TOUR most of their lives so yeah, they don't have time to physically attend a church service with thousands of people and a pastor. they could be having their own church service in their bus for all we know...praying and just hanging out talking about God. youre all a bunch of hypocrites if you say you've never sinned and if drinking wine is a "sin" (which by the way, its not. Jesus drank wine. He also turned water into wine), then 99% of the people in the world are going to Hell. yes, drinking it in excess and getting drunk is a sin. the Bible commands us not to drink heavily in ephesians 5:18, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit," but it is not a "sin". wcar has helped me through a lot and who cares if the entire band isn't Christian? atleast they dont talk about drugs, sex, money, lust or anything like that like most rappers do today. these guys have so much meaning to me and they have a special place in my heart and I will never stop listening to them. i'll let you guys think what you want to think and in the words of Dave Stephens, "I cant make your decisions for you". but wcar has had an amazing impact on my life and they have honestly brought me closer to God though their lyrics. ok my spill Is over. God bless
Rachel Adams Eh, I'm not sold, his testimony isn't great. Don't get me wrong, they're one (if not) my favorite bands ever but I still don't think he/them are Christian. I agree with what he said about the convo with Andy but church is there in the bible for a reason. I relate to their music and it's helped me in my faith but they're not Christian. Josh said that it's not his place to tell anyone they're doing something wrong and that's against what is taught in the Bible. The band is super talented and have fantastic lyrics but I'd say aren't Christian. No hard feelings at all, WCAR is the best and God is good. :) Rock on.
+ztdrumorion93 I kinda see what you mean.... Yeah, but I was saying if he avoids the question of "Who is Jesus to you?" and doesn't give an answer doesn't make me super confident in his faith. Don't get me wrong, WCAR is still one of my favorite bands ever.
I saw WCAR live at warped in 2011, and just like Ravenecrow, I felt something from them. Something about Joshua and this group just hit me so hard in my heart and they've changed my whole perspective on life from that point on. This is honestly the greatest band, and how Joshua is positive with every lyric he writes is phenominal. He's helped so many people through hard times, we are all thankful
I am christian but its good to see this type of comment. Thank you for not being an atheist that calls out someone for believing in god or any other religion. I have met a lot that do and this made me smile.
The things he said that really stood out to me: The church is the people not the building (the majority of Christians would reject this). Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus. Amazing. Way to go Josh.
that was amazing, he put christianity into a new perspective of how some people culd be YOU HAVE TO GO TO CHURCH U HAVE TO DO THIS, and he explained it perfectly, its a relationship. Much respect
I'm actually extremely glad to see that you think that way. Most atheists who comment on these types of videos just try to incite anger. They think we're (Christians) all raving lunatics, but we're not. It's nice to see someone who doesn't believe being respectful. Thank you.
'Christian describes what your lyrical content is, a genre of music describes how you sound.' The label 'Christian' music also has a lot to do with marketing. If an artist's music is distributed by a 'Christian' record label, it will be labeled as such, and usually segregated from other artists of the same genre. It can be useful for categorization, but I can see why a lot of artists try to avoid being put in that box.
he def made gr8 points. must be hard touring all the time, and to keep that relationship with God is essential for me anyway, and is a great point he made. i do go to church, the worship and sermons and fellowship are very refreashing to me, i didnt at the start i just went to bible study as that was the season i was in. each to there own in there relationship with Jesus, the bible does say to not be negative on people gathering together to worship God, that being church or just getting to gether with friends to discuss and build each other up in the word. im glad i came across this video, as ill be touring soon hopefully so this gave me good insight. ty
Seriously mad respect for this dude and all of WCAR these dudes are awesome. I am being raised a Christian but in my heart I am more agnostic but this dudes opinions on god and his beliefs are awesome. mad respect.
I haven't heard much of We Came as Romans, but I really like this guy's mindset and I can respect him for that. I'm not personally a Christian, but his message about what music means to the individual is one of the most important things about music in my opinion. Music is, by definition, a form of art. And I think art should be left to be interpreted by the individual. After all, isn't it YOUR life? What really matters is what matters to YOU.
I gotta agree with him. I'm a christian myself, but at the same time I don't see going to a building as being proof that you're faithful to God and Jesus. Just living your life in their name is proof enough. Being comfortable with who you are, because you feel as that's who and how God made you is more important than anything anyone tells you.
I don't ,know who this guy is but I was surprised that he stood that firm for his faith, I became a christian in 97' and at the time the melodic/ pop punk scene exploded with all kinds of good bands who sang about Christ and weren't ashamed of the gospel but then bands wanted to get bigger so they started playing with non christian bands and they became week in their faith not just in their music but in the interviews as well. I am not into this music but I am glad their is a strong one here
Amen! You guys are amazing, being a christian is hard but this band is not like any other bands comparing their lyrics! :) you guys give out a good positive message God bless you all!
He's not ashamed, he's talking about his faith if one but might ask him. Now say what you will but bands like MMF and WCAR are conveying a message to people who may not encounter the love of God in any other way than from judgmental people who can't show love without tearing them down under the shadow of their steeples. We all deserve to know that we are not alone in our struggles.
Yeah, totally agree. If you've seen the movie Kingdom of Heaven, that was the central idea. Orlando Bloom's character isnt fighting for Jerusalem as a city, but the people because he understands that the people are what is important not the earthly buildings and landmarks. If you havent seen it, I highly recommend you do.
I am 100% atheist but love and live by the WCAR philosophy before I even knew who WCAR was. I love how humble he is about his religion and would rather bring people to together then shove religion down their throat. "Find faith in life and in whatever keeps you believing that we are not meaningless"
I'm kynda Christian but I like everybody even if they don't believe or do believe cause it doesn't matter what beliefs u have don't let nobody tell u what u should believe in cause u can't change who u are unless by your choice. and I love this band there awesome :)
listen to his speech, he at no time said he writes for others. He said he writes songs that have a meaning to him and to others they may have a different meaning but both views find a way to relate to the lyrics. If the lyrics don't have depth to you then you don't find a relationship or way to relate with the lyrics that is all because you don't have a feeling or experience that is sparked by those particular words.
Dang dude. I am Muslim, and my best friends are christian, and i LOVE how the top two comments are by respectful atheists. WCAR really does bring the best of us together. Prop to YOU DietzGaming for your awesome comment.
Why is everyone bashing on them for having lyrics that can relate to everyone? You people say that it is cliche and dumb and meaningless but keep in mind they always sing about the positive outlook on whatever situation you are relating too. I believe these guys save life's by putting out a positive message regardless on religion or not they aren't trying to change you they are just trying to show everyone that when you feel that everything is going wrong then there is always a silver lining
Hey Stephen I'm glad your honest with this sort of thing and you know something, it's ok if you strayed from god or Jesus or whomever you worship(not fully understanding of Catholics I'm a baptist Christian) anyways it's ok man and its up to you with what do in life but always know whether you believe me or not god loves you and has a plan. Hope you can find your path bud. God bless
When I saw them at warped I felt something...Whether it was God or not i will never know. But they are achieving their mission by having people (believers and non-believers) feel something in their music
The best artist can take something personal and make it relatable. What's the point in writing something when people can't understand what you are coming from?
And yet they seem to have more faith related lyrics than most bands that label themselves "Christian". Its a strange world we live in where bands that claim a faith sing about darkness, and bands that dont sing about the light.
Props to you too, Briceson Hill. I love how the top comments here were made by legit, respectful atheists. I have the utmost respect for you. Rock on. Glad WCAR vids give us all a chance to see the goodness from youtube commenters rather than all the hate that i see so often posted, you know? Thanks for being awesome.
Smoking a cig is objective, if someone thinks it's a sin and does it they sinned. And as of church, you don't have to go, but it helps a lot! It built me up much faster and gave me support and different point of views.
it is true. i stay true to myself in church and if someone there doesnt like me or the way i look thats their problem. its the people not the building. and bad people can be in churches so dont think just going to church makes you good.
same here dude. I'm being raised Christian but I'm atheist, my parents know but they could not accept it so much. I probably like satanic music, like what heavier subgenres of metal, but it doesn't make me satanic. My dad doesn't agree with my listening to metal but my mom understands me.
