Really dont know what they were up to. Came to the US with only 200 dollars after being jobless in kenya for 4trs and bila makaratasi but made it. I was ready hata nikiambiwa nilime mitaro kwa mashamba, nifanye mjengo. Nilikuwa nimechoka na ukosefu wa kazi kenya na kushindwa kulisha family.Quick job without minding my class did dish wahing under the table, carpentry building stairs ,maintenace in a hotel and anything to put aa dollar in my pocket and sending money every month to my wife. Put my self back in university graduated working many hours and finushed my masters degree in public health became a citizen, bought two houses and brought my wife and kids. It's just your vision in life and strategy. You can make or fail in the US with no vision but chances of making it are 90% especially in smaller towns. Dont go to big cities like NY
I came with green card alone two years down the line i thank God Was with my host for 8days. Thrown to Dallas Texas. Lived wirh a stranger. Wacha tu..was there 1 month. Nimepambana na hali yangu and I'm not regretting it.Counting God's blessings.
Cameto the US on astudent visa but came with nothing and ended up on the streets after abandoning school 15years down the road after fighting off deportations and getting shot once i am worth 2 million dollars with agreen card living by south beach in miami..work smart and hard and be as bold as ashark nothng is given but everything is there to be taken cheers forgot to mention that the way to succed in the US is not employment but self employment i literally make anywhere between 30k to 50 amonth working for myself
I’ve been to Kenya for my sabbatical in 2016 and I love Kenya and it’s people. I was in Kericho at the University of Kabianga. I cannot express the kindness and love I received while there. God bless Kenya!!!!!
Kila pahari. Ni kuvumilia. It still need hardworking person, and then you need to leave your personality at Jomo kenyatta airport and start at zero. If you do that, you do any kind of Job available and everything turns good
Settling down in USA is not easy, especially if you don't have good host family and supportive system to give you the right information. If you're doing good in Kenya, come and do surveys b4 relocating to USA. If you're comfortable financially stay home. But if you're struggling with no job and you're young and want to further your education come to Western countries.
I am a South African and we came to the US for school too during apartheid. I’ll advise people to go to small towns in states like Utah, Maine and taking any jobs may be a starting point. Avoid expensive states like NYC or California. Hard work and good education pays off at the end. Indeed, home is the best place but we Africans also have a right to seek opportunities else where.
Opportunities but don't forget your inheritance which is Africa. Its only us who will build it.Anything can happen in those countries and you find yourself going back home.Ukranians never knew there would be war in their country.
Going to school immediately after landing is easier said than done especially in California. You can work first two years low income jobs as you save small for college.Helps you get established for credit & financial college loans & grants.California is very expensive but you can't go wrong with Nursing although private colleges in California are expensive. It is very hard to get into a Community College because of waiting lists & lottery system for competitive Nursing fields.Unless you have a sponsor to pay all your other expenses it is tough.Remember a car in USA is a basic need.Start with a CNA job & work your way up.Don't let the pay rate which is higher than Kenya confuse you into not furthering your Education.Good luck everyone!
It's the same in all foreign countries. Its very hard to settle down. Finding a well paying job is also hard. I moved back to Kenya from UK in 2018 and nothing would make me go back to live there. Am happy to visit but yeah Home is always best 💖
Mimi I landed in San Francisco weh! The place was so expensive, but since I was on tour I moved around different states.I stayed for a few months then I left.
America is a blessing when you land in good hands yaani mtu ako ready kukusaidia, but if you land kwa mikono ya mtu ako na roho mbaya utasuffer but at the end kama hauta give up u will make it!
key words - IF YOU DON'T GIVE UP. America is not for the faint of heart. It's for those with excess levels of dopamine - the true fighters, those that just have no QUIT in them. This is what a lot of people fail to understand. You can be WHOEVER you want.
My sister hosted me and it was hell on earth. She had just had her baby and was writing her PhD thesis and her husband was in the Netherlands. I think she was going through post natal depression and I was the one person she would unleash her fury to. Our relationship has never been the same almost 20 years down the road. But I'm happy to say that despite my rough start, I got a masters degree and a great job in my field. I was determined not to give up.
@@user-wr9fn4ny4i yes bothers alot when everyone keep saying how expensive California is. Those "inexpensive " states they make like 8 0r 10 dollars an hr. Here the minimum wage is now at 15 dollars an hr. Jobs pays really well too especially if you have an education
Our rulers have destroyed our country, that is the elephant in the room nobody wants to confront. Ni vibaya sana wakenya wanaangaika vile watatoka Kenya na wakishapata namna wanafika ng'ambo wanaendelea kuteseka zaidi. Kuna wengi wanateseka haswaa kule uarabuni. There is absolutely no reason people should be struggling this bad just to male ends meet. I hope something cataclysmic will wipe away the rotten people at the top so that Kenyans can stay home & don't have to endure this kind of unnecessary hardship in hostile foreign lands.
Thanks brother I landed Arab country but the first two months I learn alot and I believe home is be best ridhika na kidogo as grow , people are not the same and talking the truth kwa mwenzako awapende just ni kusema tu uku Iko sawa forget tting freedom, resting and all that, to me and everyone home is best 💕🥂
@@myownworld9435 no worry just make sure you have your own principles, and don't allow them to know your personal staffs. If you get a job ,try to be independent and move as soon as you can
any one that tells me the usa is more difficult than kenya id say is just soft.if i ever get the chance to go to the usa id work my ass off to never have to come back to my current situation in kenya.i think america is just a level more competitive as an african i have accustomed to this id rather go to the usa and work for 20 yrs and come invest my savings here than just be comfortable here.
Yes there’s job opportunities here in America but no business opportunities If you come for schools It’s better to work hard and avoid taking loans And everything will be fine
For those who are believers, God knows the good plans for our lives. If He's planned for you to be abroad, he'll make things favourable for success. If His plans are for you to remain home, you'll still succeeded. Let's seek His will about our lives.
@@Nakanjakoshanitahmy favorite verse. I've lived here for more than 20 years. I've faced tremendous challenges but God has held my hand and I'm thriving and helping others.
I went to study in USA for my masters degree in Oregon in 1988. I was young and single then. But it never occurred to me that I would like to stay. Part time work was meant for fun and not survival. I had a job in agricultural research and our government scholarship. I later got a teaching job and obtained a doctoral degree. I passed through all my school life from primary to doctoral degree under government sponsorship but one has to stand out of the group and that's how the system was in our country. I m now retired and enjoying out here. We have 3 children and all have used government scholarships to pass through university. It is not as bad in Africa in most careers if you see anything positive in our countries. I see many foreigners coming to our country and making it. Just do what foreigners do in Africa and you will make it.
the problem with most of the youth is tht they don't like to be innovative and creative they are just looking for employment and the tricky things is tht their employers are not educated bt they are creative
I came here with only $100. I paid bus from Chicago and was left with $60. From there it’s another story but am still here and proud of my host. I understand what you mean most green card winners majorities are misinformed.
I think her parents didn’t do their research well. Both could have worked first and saved before her mom went to school. I think they rushed that school decision with no savings. It’s hard to survive on a minimum wage income from one parent and their are bills to be paid. And i think they might have been well off so they didn’t expect to struggle in America.
@@lydiadavis2873-What just happened in Maine yesterday?20 plus people minding their business just gunned down by a white supremacists.Do you live under a rock to make such an ignorant comment?you must be white because as a black people, I see racism everywhere
But California has better wages. I moved to Cali from Atlanta and got the same job paying twice as much and my rent was the same. I just downsized. I live within my means and I don't have a car payment and I don't eat in fancy restaurants (except my birthday). No need to finance a fancy car. It all balances out if you're smart with your money.
Lived in the States for 10 years it can be a lonely place, depression na pesa naaah anyway came back to Kenya last year. Hustle ya paper can be difficult, good experience though. I am more happy in Kenya and feel more full filled here where I am.
@@phil5689 THERE YOU GO, DON'T LISTEN TO THE MOVING NI DROVES BS, MANY WILL GO BACK IN LESS THAN A DECADE WHEN THEY REALIZE HOW GOOD THEY HAD IT IN THE US!!! KEEP GOING, MAKE THAT BANK!
America is still the land of opportunity. Ninajua watu wengi hawana makaratasi but they’ve made it big here. Main difference is how much info you can get and how fast you move!!
I know folks who were in America before sept/11.. terror; their visas had already expired but they were in college on some sponsorship and by the time of terror in America, they had both garnered their doctorates! One was in New York City and another one was in Los Angeles! *Therefore* , you're right America is a land of opportunities; as president (Obama) put it that: *it's a land of possibilities* .
They had way too high expectations & failed to keep an open mind when relocating to the USA plus California is very expensive for a start. Why was the mom going to school full time instead of part time and work part? It was very poor planning & high expectations on their part.
Depends with where you get your host. Sometimes we don’t have control of where we start life in America because it’s where we get the host and it’s not easy to get one.
@@essiewakago Essie Kenyans need to wake up before they get on the plane & as soon as they arrive to the USA there are very few friends/hosts. My host kicked me out after 1 months & I had my 4 yr old child with me but I still made it with lots of sacrifices & hard work & fought my way up, so this thing of "host" Kenyans need to forget it, as the host is a regular Kenyan working probably 2 jobs to pay bills. As soon Kenyans land in the USA they need to quickly find any job that can pay a studio apt or find a roommate don't expect to be hosted, that's the reality my dear.
Hi, Thanks for the amazing interview. To answer your question, the schools in Kenya following the American system are Rosslyn Academy, Rift Valley Academy and West Nairobi School. ISK (International School of Kenya) is Canadian.
Am happy to hear this meaningful thought from the youngest lady am so thankful to get information like this will save the video and listing to it a time will be my encouragement I wish to travel to alabama dot now the way forward
Nice talk 💞. You kept us waiting at the beginning. The sound needs improvement. Pliz try to edit the video B4 uploading it 💞. You need to watch your own video later in order to evaluate it. The topic is very interesting 🌟
Matunda ya William Kimani iko in God’s way… God is the way not greener pastures and I believe if we humble and take any job for a start, that’s the ladder to success. It’s very hard kupata wakenya in any odd jobs in the USA
LOL what utter BS - god doesn't exist, you are your own GOD - talk about brainwashing!!! This is one of the worst things wazungus did to us. Kutufunga akili kutumia dini. A MESS!
Hosting issues is a big factor on how fast it will take to settle down. I had a bad host in Boston and they frustrated me. God brought strangers who taught me driving, took me to apply jobs, shopping etc. 2 years of frustations but God came through for me through strangers. My hosts were from Hell even though they pretended to be Christians
There is no way you can do KCSE in Kenya via KNEC when you didn't do KCPE here. Whoever told you that a bribe could have assisted you was lying!!!!!!!!!!!
Trust me if you are making good money plz don't go to America .....worst of all don't move your family there ....my sister's entire family moved to California 10 years ago this is her 2 daughters, husband, and one son. About 4 years ago she moved back despite having a good job as a manager in a store and her husband also earning well. The sad truth is people forget about the indoctrination in American public schools, her son almost mutilated his genitals in claims of feeling like a woman trust me (they call them Transgender) I don't really understand it either. All they had heard of was a large number of homosexuals in America and were mentally prepared for it. She says the scariest moment of her life was when they were called for a meeting by a counselor and asked to take the child to some type of clinic to be educated about putting the child on different hormones and maybe they would help him change to a girl coz he felt like one. she was this close to agreeing due to fear of her son becoming suicidal .... that's when the husband decided to bring them all back here to Kenya for a visit and a bit of advice from her family members. They stayed for some months and realized the son's suicidal tendencies reduced drastically. They also realized that the puberty blockers the school was suggesting they put on their son were the same drugs they give pedophiles in jails to reduce their desires. They did not go back after realizing these began their life again and now surprisingly the son is back to being a son, in fact, he is the manliest of all the nephews in the family ....we sometimes make fun of how him and he would be a woman if they didn't come home....he cant even imagine it ..trust me don't subject your children to the psychological torture of the west if you already earn well
If l can make a descent pay with my RN in MidWest, why l relocate to so called CA for just extra 3/5 bucks? I go to CA for a visit when sun is not blazing in summer.
Sometimes you have options back home. If you don't you will just have to 'wear a thick skin' and make it happen. We simply have next to none opportunities back home......
Yeah, you cant seat for KCSE without KCPE certs I xane from Tanzania where i was in college and i wantedto join form two in kenya and i was told that i would not be able to do my kcse until i got my kcse cert then i had to go back to primary So, it wasn't bribe but the fact
There are so many opportunities. No need to stick to nursing. I have no idea why Kenyans stick to this one profession even when they don't like it and it's not even fulfilling for them. There's more to life than just surviving to pay bills.
@@JulzMuya Exactly. It is unfortunately a herd mentality and most of these people are doing what other Kenyans who came before are doing. Most people are unwilling to be independent thinkers, particularly Africans...for some reason. There, I said it lol
Its never about jobs its about all of you taking any job and bring the Dollars home and life goes on story ya still nyinyi ni wadosi hio mungeacha kenya
Essie Wakago! Friendly Vlogging advice....and Audio advice when you are doing interviews. The microphone belongs to the person you are interviewing. You don't even need to be in the picture frame. The story belongs to the person you are interviewing. Get 2 microphones, 2 Cameras if it is absolutely important forr you to be seen and heard.
I would give anything to have an opportunity to get a greencard. US ni kupambana na hali yako people have made it with far less. If you are lazy like this you will not make it
Why is Nakuru most mentioned in most of the Kenyan online video I've seen? I should think Nairobi and Mombasa should come up more in conversations, but almost 5 in 7 Kenyans would have something to do with Nakuru in the videos I've seen.
@@spicylife3792 i came in 2007 with a green card and in 3 months time i was working and getting $8.50. I had one child and got a roommate to split the bills with. In 6 months time i had bought a car. So it’s not about joblessness. Huku you just do any job to get you by and save as you go. Then when you’re financially stable you can go to school
For one to do an KCSE one has to do an equation test. This is what happens. I have reservations on her claim that they wanted a bribe. Not fair because our Kenyan education system is quite credible.
